Let me preface this by saying that I am a friend of a friend, but has anyone heard of any interest in Seb Purcell. Played for Oakleigh and ST kev's but had injuries this year. 6.3 and very quick. Had a good finals series for Oakleigh. A midfielder but played out of postition at full back for Oakleigh.

We won't get him.
can he hit targets? heard his kicking lets him dowmn, may be wrong guy

Yeah, I think that's the reason he was overlooked in the ND. If there are question marks on you're kicking clubs are very hesitant to pick you up these days. There are a few Kpd prospects available though

If there is one position you can afford to have a player who is not a very good kick its tall key defender. Only one KPD mind.
Lonergan is a very good kick but it is rarely seen now, as he has orders (which he carries out with aplomb) to nullify the best tall forward. He shorts or hands off to others who move the ball out. Doesn't need the kick.

If all else is equal the better kick is selected of course but its not the first requirement as in a mid fielder.

Id say that these days use must be reasonable no matter where you play. There is no hiding and to a degree having an in ability gets highlighted. Even rucks must have a degree of proficiency. Not everyone can be Harry Taylor but the days of acceptable ball butchers are gone.

I'd take Lovett if he was available and in excellent physical condition:thumbsu:

at the end of the day...were here to win premierships not win the most prestigious footy culture award;)

His speed would be so important during the season with Varcoe, Wojak & now Murdoch taking off when the scores are tied, 20 minutes into the 4th quarter and we got Stevie J, Hawkins & Pods calling for the ball deep

That's why Stephen Wells and Chris Scott are making those decisions, and not you. Thankfully.

If you can't see the link between great culture and premierships, after what has happened for the Cats in the last 5 years, then there is no hope for you.

I would take either Lovett or Fev as a rookie. Both on last shot. Make it clear no second chance/no warnings etc. We have a chance to be the greatest ever football team in 2012, no stone should be left untouched.

True but when that stone has the potential self destruct and put the club in shambles for the season then I don't think it's so worthwhile.

If our culture is so strong then the club should be able to control the individual. I would not be disappointed if we went after either, but i just think Lovett in particular could be the type who could really propel us to another premiership.

ahhh you break my heart:(

I guess we are fortunate that Stevie J sticked around after 2006 considering he was into the grog and his training habits weren't quite upto standard.

Stokes didn't have the best of starts in 2010 either with that drug charge.

I see the link don't worry buddy!
I just feel that this current Geelong side is on the verge of perfection and another element that is missing is speed.....Lovett has ooodles of that and it would be beneficial in those tight matches where players who have foot pace can produce something when needed.

It's not the 1st time in the past 5 years that Geelong have had to deal with a player who has had troubles and you can bet.....at Geelong he'd get the grounding necessary to fulfill his potential and also ensure he sets new & successful paths after football.

Every human being makes mistakes in life, that's human nature.......you must believe that a mistake must be a burden for the remainder of that individuals life which is very unfortunate:thumbsdown:

Lovett, Wojcisnki, Varcoe, Motlop, Byrnes, McCarthy would make this team scarily fast

and plus...we already have a few aboriginal boys merging a successful football career and Lovett would have some guys in common which would help with his football.

Get off the grass Bobby. Not only do we not need Lovett he is scum.
Didn't see the other post that he was in a T**ty bar drinking shots last week?
He is filth, and got bloody lucky to escape a sentence.

And even he knows it as he sold his car and moved out of his apartment before the court case !

so you gonna believe everything you read that's posted vinum?

Hey, how did your Magpies do this year:p
You still going to talk em up for the 2012 season Vinum:confused:

(and you say I should get off the grass)

some of you guys in here act like your from the posh goody goody suburbs and never put a foot wrong in your lives!

Get real and look at what we can do to make the club an even greater side to beat in 2012.
We have lost Menzel, Ling, Ottens who are extremely valuable players and we have a couple of ex-guns out there for hardly no $$$ that can help Geelong solidify a top 4 spot and push for back2back flags.

I couldn't give a stuff if we have a couple of gay footballers, ex-jail birds or gambling addicts, as long as they produce on the footy field then it's fine by me and am pretty confident Chris Scott would definitely have a serious look at Lovett considering his abilities on the field.

No way will Lovett be considered. Too old (enough players on our list approaching 30), hasn't played any footy of late, too big a risk even in a supportive environment. Not enough upside in him. Sure he's quick, but I imagine over the last 2 years he's lost a yard. Besides, there'll be plenty of younger untried blokes that Wells will have his eye on.

On the phantom draft page they are looking for someone to do Geelong's picks.

Anyone interested???

Someone has us taking Darrou with our first rookie pick.

I hope this eventuates. :thumbsu:

The difference is we now live in 2011, not 1971. Gone are the days when players could have a puff of a ciggy at quarter time, and a couple of whiskies at half time to warm themselves up.

Players nowadays are required to be professionals 24/7, not just when they run out onto the ground on the weekend.

It's all well and good if a player is a gun on the field, but if they have issues off the field, it's likely their bad habits could rub off on younger players.

Would you like it if we drafted Lovett, then the first week he's at the club, he decides to have a night out on the town, takes young Bundy and Motlop out with him, stays out till 3am and gets absolutely plastered and pressures the two youngsters into going drink by drink with him?

We've worked our butts off to get rid of that culture. When was the last time you heard of a Geelong player getting arrested after a night on the turps during the season?

Call me an old fogie or a stick in the mud or something like that, but I'd rather have 45 or so blokes on the list who are focused on being the best they can be on the footy field on the weekend, which is what they're being paid for, than having a few guys who prefer to party first, play football second.
