The Brisbane,Cairns and Darwin matches would have pulled the round down. The overall season is still tracking ok.

I know it's Darwin but don't they usually get 10-11k easy?
Yes - It was a very dissapointing crowd, and much less than Cairns. Even though Melbourne v Port wasn't exactly a drawcard, the poor Darwin crowd ought to serve as a cautionary tale for those advocating a Darwin AFL side (but I know it won't).

Here are some club by club crowd stats for 2011 -

Not really, I think Collingwood have just been excellent in their ability to engage the fans.

Richmond and Essendon are the sleeping giants of the AFL. Of that there is no doubt.

This. Swings and roundabouts, Essendon have never had a significant slump in attendances and will definitely overtake Collingwood again when the Pies cool off in form in a couple of years and if Essendon manage to solidify in the top four or five, Richmond definitely capable if they ever get their shit together. Carlton also a possibility, though I don't think as strong a possibility as the other two.

Still very impressive numbers from Collingwood, though, definitely an awesome time to be a fan.

Richmond drawing 680k despite average form is impressive, shows the club has plenty of loyal supporters.

Well done to Collingwood though, they have managed to turn on-field performance into consistently higher attendance and membership numbers.

Hawks would likely be closer to where Richmond is if they had played 3 games at the G instead of Launceston.

Interesting the poor crowd for the Darwin game. 7000 surprisingly terrible. The NT Thunder playing in the NEAFL get 2000-3000 per match and apparently the number was 4000-5000 recently when they played GWS.

They are top of the ladder and they are tipping that they could get 7000-8000 for a semi final in a few weeks.

Must say I wouldn't go and watch Port Adelaide if you gave me a free ticket.

I think you answered you own question .
People getting behind the Thunder don't need tokenism .

Crowd averages were always going to go down this year, and they will, next as well, with the new and lower supported teams.

Brisbane Lions are about as low as they can get, and SA teams are as well, swings and round a bouts really.

I dont now whether we will ever see 2010 crowd averages repeated.
