Wouldn't mind us having a go at getting young demons midfielder Jordan Gysberts. Double rising star nominee, excellent clearance player and has great athleticism at 190cm and 85kg. perfect modern size. He is a good kick and has a good set of hands as well as that clean pickup/one touch you want in a player. Just doesnt fumble. He's only 20 years old and he wants out of Melbourne footy club. What would/could we offer for him? I'd give up our second rounder and someone like sherman. Kid has potential.

Stop making so much sense. Although he's apparently part of the ever-increasing conga line of players heading to the Cats. He would fit the "quality young people" mantra of our coach.

Surely we're not just going to sit back and do nothing during the free/agency trade period are we?

Wow...that's a huge slap in the face for Minson if it's true.

Maybe there is something going on in the background that we just don't know about. Possible relationship issues? Or maybe it's a play by both Minson and the club to try and get the best for both parties in terms of contracts and compensation when other clubs come sniffing.

I don't get this. Why offer Minson only a one year contract??? Do they want him to leave?

Would be absolutely appalled if this [ one year] were true, and if I were Minno, I would flick them the 'bird', and start fielding offers.
If it is true then two things are obvious:
1. We don't want him, and don't care what we get for him, if anything at all.

2. Our football/contract management people should be immediately dismissed as totally incompetent.

Personally I don't believe it. We could not be that dumb.

I'm not so sure on Roughy playing ruck - B-Mac seems pretty adamant, and Tom Campbell looks a natural no 1 ruck with Cordy more of a natural no 2 ruck and Roughy in between.
I'm a fan of Roughy's palmwork but the plan seems to be a little different for him.

Austin is physically able to play key position in terms of height and movement (certainly wasn't comparing him in quality to Grant).

In terms of bodywork, I think Talia is already pretty close - he's a natural mesomorph so is already near strong enough, and he seems a clone of his brother who held down CHB in a top 4 side at age 20.

FWIW if we draft Plowman I'd be wrapt for his touted abilities as a rebounder (and he's the same height at Scarlett & Glass).

Scarlett and Glass also haven't had to play on ~200cm forwards which will make up the majority of quality key forwards over next 10 years, times are changing and the days of 190 cm key defenders will be done and dusted.

Interesting about Minson.

From what I have seen of Tommy Campbell this year, I think we have a really competent number 1 ruck on our hands - he just needs the opportunity.

There is no point having 2 good number 1 rucks on our list when we already have Cordy and Roughead as able 2nd rucks anyway, so I think that if we get a second round pick (following our current one) - i.e. pick 28, then we should be really happy.

I really like Big Will as a player, but unfortunately his prime is not in our premiership window.

For what it's worth: Tom Campbell's average stats are higher in his first year than Cox's were in his first year. More average kicks, more average handballs, more average hitouts, more average marks, more average goals. I'm not saying he'll ever be better than Cox because that's well and truly going overboard, I'm just saying that he has promise and could blossom in the #1 ruck job.

I have raised concerns about Campbell in the past as he hasn't shown much in the forward line; but this was based on the assumption that Minson would stay. Campbell will love being the #1 ruck if Minson goes, I have no doubts we have a player on our hands.

wow, probably not a bad thing if he leaves and we can get a decent pick... anyone have any idea roughly what it would be?

I'm guessing second round?

If Minson goes, YES. Grundy will play next year, and a ruck combo of Grundy and Campbell in a few years could be amazing.

So does that mean we're giving up on Cordy/Roughy? We can't play 4 ruckmen again next year.

If it's any less than 2nd round, we get screwed.

Not giving up, no. If Minson goes and we get Grundy, I would keep Campbell on the rookie list for next year and play Cordy/Roughy in the ruck and give them more opportunities to show what they've got. I don't want to give up on them, but they haven't showed a whole lot in the ruck as yet and I don't think targeting Grundy if he falls would be a bad move. That said, picking a ruckman at 5 or 6 is risky. In retrospect I think I'd rather Stringer/Mayes/O'Rourke/Martin/Wines etc, but I could still see the thought process behind picking Grundy.

Yes, hence "for his abilities as a rebounder" - Scarlett hasn't played on 200cm monsters for years, Glass rarely does

I hope we pass on Grundy, regardless of whether Will goes or not.

Better off picking potential elite mids with picks 5 and 6, Campbell should be our number 1 ruck next year, Roughy and Cordy to 2nd ruck, then go after another promising ruck in the rookie draft - Myles Bolger anyone?

There's only really three players I'd actually go out and physically 'chase' (or at least inquire about) in trade week - Jordan Gysberts (Melbourne), Jed Lamb (Sydney) and possibly Josh Toy (Gold Coast). Think they'd all fit in reasonably well and are generally a year or two older than most of our youngsters.

Wouldn't mind this at all. Anyone know why he couldn't crack into the Melbourne team?

2nd round might be a bit much for someone out of favour, so maybe a third rounder +Sherman/Vesz first and see if we can get it done.
