TBH it's not the best trade.
Having said that, i think something like hooker/gumby/second rounder for caddy/toy/hickey or nicholls would be better, because we get a tall in return

The fact is deals dont get done between two clubs where multiple players from each team are traded. As much as they are suggested on bigfooty it just doesnt go down that way. From my POV i think Monfries could be on his way out, possibly back to SA. Our best bet to get Caddy is to packages a late 1st rd pick from Monfries and Hooker to GC for Caddy

I think we at least have to look at Goddard in free agency, Milne, Lenny, Montagna and a couple of others just signed new deals, which wouldn't be cheap. Looking at our list structure and having an educated guess at our cap space, I think we could afford to front a new deal starting in 2013. BJ could get squeezed out

It's actually "Shiels", not shields. and i know essendon fans generally over-rate their own, but here i think quite a few are selling both of the KPD's under discussion a fair bit short. Cales first half of the year was very decent, and Pears remains - despite some weird opinions from the short of memory- a highly promising footballer. Don't give away such structural players for the likes of shiels - who is a decent player, but not the absolute quality we badly need. his level of player we should be trying to snaffle via minor trades, like sydney did with kennedy and mcglynn. Dylan Shiel would be another matter altogether of course, lol.

as for GC, remember that they have to cut their list by 7 players or so. "steak-knives" players heading their way will be of zero interest to them. They'll want best-22 players, high draft picks or upgraded draft picks.

Picking up Zorko in a draft pick shuffle with GC and Melbourne looks pretty savvy. And they've done alright with Hudson, considering the pick they gave up was used for Dahlhaus' RP.
