The clubs can't rate Stevens too highly if they wont part with a pick in the mid 30's. If they really think he is just worth 48, after 3 years in the system, then he probably is not going to beat out the kids that we already have and in particular the ones vying for an inside role such as Heppell, Melksham, Myers and Browne.

I don't have an opinion on the kid as I have never seen him play, so this counts for little but it just seems like we are kicking the tyres, looking for a cheap one to fall through. If they think he is any good then do the deal, if not then let the kid go. Sounds like typical Essendon at the trade table.

Agreed, maybe we should get in his ear and get him to walk into the pre season draft:p. Really i'm no draft expert like 99% of us on here but looking at a few of the phantom drafts the midfielders in this draft seem to run deep why not try and draft one that very well could come good. Instead of someone who hasn't looked like he is AFL standard and wasn't really even backed in by his own coaches this year.
And the final age old point who is he going to push out because IMO he isn't better than Watson, Hocking, Howlett, Myers, Heppell and Goddard because we also have to remember he is a one position player so its midfield or no where.

Well said, there's always a Fyfe, Zahar or Nick Stevens that can slip through.

Yay! Pick 13, we're saved! All it costs is a KPP that we havent replaced yet.

I am being a little bit dramatic, but I am half serious.

Pears and Hooker are key defenders that we need. Our defence has been bagged and trading one out and a second round pick is great, but what are we going to do when we're struggling for depth next year? Unless you have a clear plan for what pick 13 would get us and how we can manage our list in the short term, I think that we're all just a little seduced by a number.

Melksham was pick 10 and we all know how much this board has loved him this year, so we're all happy with;
Pears and 32 for Melksham
Hooker and 32 for Melksham
Gumbleton and 32 for Melksham

I rate Melsham, for the record, but it's nice to put things in perspective and admit how fickle we are.

I think theres probably 10-15 top players in this draft thus we put ourselves into this area if we got pick 13. Most of these are midfielders and high picked midfielders (Non KPP) from 2008 earlier usually turn out pretty well.

Whitfield, Toumpas, Wines, Orourke, Mayes, Macrae, Menzel, Stringer, Garlett, Vlastuin (id be extremely confident pick 13 gives us one of these midfield types)

Josh Kennedy + Ben McGlynn ====> 39 + 46 + 70.

They must be rubbish if that's all Sydney were willing to part with.

For what it's worth, I talked (personally) to our fitness and development coaches (you know that guy from the BomberTV Altitude training interview) cause they were just in at the gym at the same time as me and I had a cheeky word to them about who we're looking at over trade/draft. Said no to gysberts, maybe to Stevens and was less than convincing when I asked about the midfield potential at pick 32. Obviously they would be tentative to give away info to a random supporter but thought I should keep everyone updated!

Yeah it's been great for Collingwood.

They've lost a premiership midfielder and a premiership key forward.

I'd rather lose those premiership players than certain others.

Premiership teams will always lose a few players along the way, but rarely do they lose someone that they rate highly internally. All their key players are playing for under what they can get elsewhere. Swan, Pendlebury, Thomas, Cloke, Beams are all signed on good money, but I'm sure they could have gotten better if they left the club.

The pies have lost a few players, but we wont be talking about Dawes and Wellingham affecting them in 2013. It's news now, it sells papers, but Collingwood have been very clever in their list management.

Collingwood have some of the best history when it comes to getting it right at the draft table and trade table. Im sure they will pick 3 Dayne Beams with picks 17,18 and 20.

I would have happily have given pick 32 and more for Wellingham (your crazy Phone)

Lynch and Paine are going to be better than Dawes. After such a poor season they have done well to get pick 20 for him.
