Re: Player X v Player Y

I know I cant go too wrong with the following dilemma but interested in your thoughts.

Choose 4 elite mids from the following 8 players:

Ablett, Pendles, Rockliff, Redden, Murphy, Selwood, Boyd, Thompson.

At present I have Ablett, pendles, murphy and selwood
I'm thinking through the same thing. I'm thinking about Ablett, Redden, Boyd and .... Moloney or Selwood, with Murphy in contention too. One more week of NAB cup might help clarify things with regard to form.

Ablett, Pendles, Rockliff, Boyd - although Thompson presents amazing value.

Re: Player X v Player Y

Can easily reduce this to Guthrie v Bower

But of the 2 I have no idea who will break through. Think Guthrie might have higher ceiling but Bower might find it easier to get regular games

Are you thinking that Hunt's pre-season numbers are an abberation as Bluey wont persist with his midfield role in the real stuff?

I think KMH has the best job security, but if plays same role as last year, there is no point in picking him.

Re: Player X v Player Y

Sam Mitchell Vs Jobe Watson?

Watson is about $50,000 cheaper but can he score as highly as Mitchell this year?

Mitchell v Murphy ?

Murphy - don't know what Carlton's draw is but the hawks have four tough games first up and Mitchell doesn't handle a tag well. Maybe this year will be different

Re: Player X v Player Y

Fyfe - even thought he had a injury interrupted preseason he's looked even better. But I can see your dilemma, Johnson injury free could have a super year too!

[Minson + Masten + Porplyzia] v. [Minson + Clifton/Magner + Dangerfield] v. [Cox + Clifton/Magner + Porplyzia]

I'd go Cox et al - for me he is just such a must have given his ability to score so many more points than any other ruckman.

Porps, while not having a huge scoring potential could just about match it with Danger/Masten - who are both perennial pre-season brownlow medallists, i just don't trust them.
While the rookies should be very good money makers which is what you need to win it.

Re: Player X v Player Y

Can someone rank these guys in order from better option to worse option. All from GWS:

Shiel
Smith
Kennedy

At the moment I have all three- leaning towards playing one of Smith and Kennedy in the mid and the other in the foward line purely because of DPP. Would there be much of a difference in job security and price between the three?

Cheers and much appreciated

IMO option 3 is the surest bet, though I can see why you'd consider the others. Minson without Hudson averaged 93 last year, but with Hudson playing averaged 64 (this in turn makes me wonder how much Leuenberger's scores will be affected in 2012). Masten had two huge scores late 2011 and several sub-affected scores, and suddenly looks to be playing well. However, all those NAB games have been without a complete Eagles midfield, so I doubt he can replicate those numbers in H&A games. Maybe the next NAB game will shed some light...

You would need to be ballsy to pick option 1, though.

Re: Player X v Player Y

I'm fitting Hale in my team. His NAB form has been consitsent and I think will score better than a rookie ruck. I think the inconsistent scores of a rookie ruck may be telling in the long run. I'll think of it as squeezing in an extra forward player.

Re: Player X v Player Y

I got a head scratcher, Pav and Nick Riewoldt or Jack Redden and Dangerfield
dude... option 2 all the way. Pav and Nick are both past their prime and are more likely to miss games through injury or being rested. Danger and Redden are 2 young guns that have a lot of upside and are a lot less likely to miss games.
