On the surface, keeping guys like Hitchcock and Logan over Surjan seems ****ing bizzare. But it could just be that Surj wanted a two-three year deal and wasn't prepared to sign a one year deal based on the injuries he has had...whereas spuds like Logan and Hitchcock know their limitations and maybe quite happy to sign whatever contract that is put in front of them - because they know they won't get a game elsewhere.

Besides - the standard contract that draftees get is two years, correct? That means we need a whole list of spuds to delist NEXT year as well.

May be KH is doing a Malcolm Blight, a new broom sweeps clean, it worked for the fruit tingles.

The Blight analogy would work if Hinkley came in and sacked Cassisi, Ebert, Logan, and even Kornes.

Surjan when fit and getting a game is an excellent shutdown small defender who regularly kept quality opponents quiet.

Teams score goals through whichever player Logan is on.

I don't believe he has hit form like that for a long time now. Yes he was fantastic 2-3 years ago, but he is 27 and has struggled for the last 2 years IMO. Logan was barely OK last year and woeful this year, so I think he should have gone first rather than Surjan, but I don't think there is a whole lot of difference between them at this moment.

I just think that many people rate Surjan so highly because of his efforts a few years ago. He just hasn't been that amazing in recent years, which is why he is finding himself delisted, same applies for Steve Salopek.

If we are going to improve we need to clean out not concerned about the others but surjan suprises me a little, my memory is not that great but I remember either early this year or last year suj was intervied on 5cc and was critical in some coments he made of team selection and maybe something else i can't remember. Maybe this contributed to his delisting.

I suppose all we can do is look at the big picture. Delisting Surj instead of Logan is a dumb, dumb move that will cost us in the short-term, but it's not like it's gonna cost us a premiership. Hell, the extra goals Logan will concede might even get us a better draft pick!

Didn't Gotch go on record as saying Surj had only conceded 14 goals to direct opponents in his mid-season review? Show me another comparable defender playing on the opposition's number 1 small forward week in week out with those numbers

Surj is rated highly because he does/did his job and towed the company line. Now we're left with heroball and no other small defenders

People can harp on about the fact that we needed to do this etc. There's no indication that any draft picks or any of the new players are going to be in Port Adelaide's next premiership side

I think the new coaches are allowing the (many times) discredited football administrators to have too much input on list management.

If we're being unfair, its probably in letting the new coaches off for approving this sort of list management.

So the committee in place to set the strategy following KT's extensive review, AND the new coaches who have some level of experience dealing with players and success, are all being sucked in by a master debater of questionable judgement & skill when it comes to list management and player worth (and who's been 'realigned' in his role) and a rookie list manager? It just doesn't make sense to me.

Blight cleaned out 5 x 30 year olds. McDermott, McGuiness, Anderson, A Jarman and Weidemann and let Hodges and Brown go to Port who were 28 and 27 respectively. He cut 5 others beteen 21 and 23.

When Hinkley was appointed we only has one 30 year old - Cassisi and Kornes turns 30 early next year.

This is the first massive failure of the Thomas Review. Peter Rohde has been an abject failure with Port Adelaide. Jason Cripps managed to destroy our once excellent back 6. These two idiots have been tasked with rebuilding our list? Right

The new coaches have only been the new coaches for what, a week? Having had no previous direct experience of the PAFC list, and Hinkley has already said in media that he is going to rely on the guys that are already here for their assessments.

KT's extensive review, the one that hasn't delivered a verdict yet, is incomplete.

Who's left?

Banner failed to get a game in our team under two coaches. He failed to hold a SANFL league team place. He's clearly got some major deficiencies. There should be no angst about his delisting.

The mass love that Banner gets is comical for a bloke that is slow, has no defensive side to his game and who was playing SANFL reserves for half the year.

And I will play devils advocate here, i'll say that Surj has had one good season out of the last five. In 08 he was dropped mid year and finished 20th in the BnF & 22nd in the Port board BnF. He was ordinary.

In 09 he was excellent. But he never lived up to that standard again. 17th in the BnF in 2010, missed half the year with injury. 28th in the BnF in 2011, missed half the year with injury. 17th in the BnF in 2012, missed half the year with injury. I love the Surj but its not a great record.

That demonstrates how crap our medical department has been at keeping our better players on park

I hate seeing players go or like seeing players getting delisted, but footy is big business now. I wish all the boys the very best in the future. Looks like we are starting from scratch. New coaches, new board and soon, a lot of new players.

I have no sympathy for anyone at Port. I've spent 5 years hearing how our preseasons have been better, we've drawn so many lines we ran out of sand, Adelaide ran out of tissues because of these guys. On your way let new leaders evolve and a new coach educate his new team!

Testify!

That is precisely why I shudder at the thought of Peter Rohde and Jason Cripps holding key positions within the club. They are two of the worst offenders during that time, yet we keep them on in important roles?

If we're going to clean out then clean EVERYONE out
