On a serious note, in a year or two, Surjan, Banner and Rodan will be forgotten and we'll have some in all likeliness, better talent.

Pretty much just KH taking out the trash of the last 5 years, regardless of where he starts.

How on earth did D Stewart survive this cull... Unless he has a spine and heart transplant, he has no place wearing a port jumper.. he has no grunt, no drive and no passion what so ever.. My 89 yo grandma could lead up, mark and probably dob one from outside 50 better than that useless bastard!!

Purely a lack of talls. Our list needs another good cleanout next year and smart recruiting/trading over the next 14 months to really be transformed, and he will likely go next year if he plods along again.

I have been saying for years that the reason we are a shyt team is because our list is shyt....well the new coaching group has seen it this way also and has acted in accordance.

We may not all agree on who gets cut and who stays but something had to give and today it gave big time!
To me the names do not really mean much because apart from a couple of guys most of the team is rubbish anyway.
I can understand how some people will be upset that some really nice guys who try hard each time they play are not going to be there next year.
Right now i am backing Kenny's commandos all the way.

Ken Hinkley. The smiling assasin. :)

I vowed to have the same attitude and I will. But jeeeeez, when Logan and Hitchcock stay and Surjan and Rodan go, it makes it hard. None are great but one pairing is better than the other.

Hinkley and Richardson have had nothing to do with our list management, they have put their faith in Rhode and Cripps to make changes.

We have delisted the best shutdown small in the game and a well built mid who can play and kept Hitchcock and Logan instead.

If we are serious about a clean-out Brett Ebert should be the first one gone as he adds nothing to the side and K.Cornes and his me first attitude should be right behind him.

Errr, Surjan?

I didn't see much of Port after R10 but he was having a good season up until then wasn't he? Has been one of the better small defenders in the league for the last few years imo.

Yep up to Rd 11 he was a decent chance to be an All Australian, the small back pocket defender. Nobody had kicked more than 2 goals on him.

But he broke down again. He play first 12 games and then only 1 more. In 2011 only managed 8 games and only 13 in 2010. I suspect that his injuries have caught up with him and the reason he wasn't given a contract. At 27 its too early to be giving guys 1 year contract because you are concerned about their bodies surviving the season.

A great pity because the bloke is a great club man and was in fine form until he was struck down again with back and knee issues.

Pretty sure Blight axed 12.

Blight cleaned out 5 x 30 year olds. McDermott, McGuiness, Anderson, A Jarman and Weidemann and let Hodges and Brown go to Port ( traded for SANFL zone kids) who were 28 and 27 respectively. He cut 5 others beteen 21 and 23. ( Kluzek, Logan, Pesch, Powell and Ross traded to Collingwood for Brett James)

On TPFP there is a thread about AFL cycles. I said they exist but Geelong have been the best at avoiding a bottoming out cycle.

Since Blight got there in 1989 they have only not won 10 games in the following years
1990 10th 8 wins
1998 12th 9 wins
2001 12th 9 wins
2003 12th 7.5 wins

Why have Geelong not gone to the bottom and only had 4 seasons out of 24 that they haven't had 10 wins?? Some of those years 10, 11 or 12 wins didn't make the finals but thats still a half decent season.

Why?? Recruiting and the fact that head recruiter Stephen Wells and he is also list manager and has held the position since 1994. Between 1984 and 1994 he was in charge of their country zone and U/19's coach as well as assistant recruiter before he got the top job.

By having a long term recruiting head, he can think long term and avoid the one or two year short term needs of the coach to make the finals and get a contract extension. And you don't end up with as much silly recruiting as we have seen and delisting of guys who have been solid and fans left wondering why other flakey players have stayed on the list when the solid guys have been cut.

Being able to plan long term and develop a long term list, is why they have dodged the cycles. Port used to have a bloke called Bob Clayton who used to do this sort of role. We need to find another Bob Clayton or Stephen Wells.

Here is a story from December 2009 when Geelong gave him their outstanding service award for his first 25 years of service.

Spot on. Nice guys and all that but facts are our team has been rubbish for 5 years and delisting players who have been there the whole time yet still can't nail a first 22 spot is not something I will be losing sleep over. Even Surjan- I love his passion but he took his position on the list for granted by rocking up to preseason in an unfit state, basically wasting an entire year. You can't say he hasn't had chances.

Despite their endeavors this generation has failed and it's time to let the new guard forge their own path.

Some massive overreactions here to some pretty meh delistings.

Just need one guy who is a gun at identifing talent and let him recruit until he dies. We used to be good at this. Surely such a man can be identified. There would be such a man in the Port ranks already.

No secret that Hinkley and Richardson have played a minor role in our list management this off-season. They've said it in just about every interview.

Surjan delisted while Logan gets another year or two has Rhode all over it.

almost there.....delist cassisi, logan, hitchcock and dstewart
Rhode said we are done with de-listings. Just working on new deals for Hitchcock/Salter/Ebert.

If you reckon our delistings were not done by order of our new coaches ????????? .................. well **** me.
