Probably more than 50% of the Banner frustration has been because we've seen so many 'spuds' continue to play instead while we were told Mitch wasn't working on the defensive side of his game enough for the Pies, fair enough considering that was Primus' game plan, but that was the other frustrating thing that wasn't working out. We were begging to see him given a run at AFL level this year. I can see him kicking over a dozen goals next year for someone else which may not sound like much but his first year somewhere new, still young and rotating through, I see him being good and getting better.

I am pretty unhappy about one of my favourite players Surjan aka the doctor. But if they are more confident in Logan being fitter and available more frequently you have to swallow that pill. It was obvious that we couldn't keep both on the list.

Banner, myeh
Surjan, must be injury. wont say that jeapordise his drafting chance. hence the 27 premiership window line
the others, myeh

salter- happy. maybe hinkley thinks like the rest of us did for 3 years! hooray!

logan, hitchcock, thomas. well, if they have contracts what can we do?

next year they'll all likely be gone

the other thing is we don't know who was under what role, and who did or didn't keep to "structures" (i hate HATE that word)

Daniel Stewart. Well, its pretty obvious if he was not contracted

His issue is confidence and in the head. I have full confidence that he will add 7 kilos over the season and smash packs. you watch

IF we come back in 5 months and westhoff has a bicept and stewart crashes packs in pre season we're on for a good year

i dont undeerstand why teams dont send a guy out to battering ram the packs and hurt the oppositions key defender

its not even charging when he's fairly going for the ball. if it is he gets a week off.

best reverse sub in history. he plays the 1st quarter and softens the backs up and wears down their quads

they are building a different team

keeping the players they think can support hinkleys game style plan

more plenty more will be rotated out in 2 years

this really is the entire new club we're (well I know i have) been harping on about for ages

i dont expect dom to be captain next year either

now just get rid of rhode and cripps and its beautiful

This is the best thing to happen in the last 5 years,it not only gets rid of some dead wood but sends a big message to the rest of the group that the good old days of wine and roses are over.
What we need now is to get this recruiting thing right.
My biggest problem with our club has been in this area, we need to set some basic rules like keep away from players that have had injury problems because our list is riddled with them already and that's why we cant win a chook raffle.
What has been done yesterday is the only way to go with the list we have, we can all argue who should go and who should stay but nobody can argue that it had to be done.

Thinking about the delistees again, I think I can get over most of them. Seems like Surjan's body just can't stay together for a full season. Would put Banner on the rookie list is available (something about him seems that they put a line through him early on and never budged. Would like to see Richardson work with him). Rodan can't play a full game, and most the rookies only played reserves.

The thing that worries me most about about the list changes is that they seem to come from the 2012 Primus-Era way of thinking, which has proven to be a failure. Now I'm sure that Richardson/Hinkley may have had a small say in the decisions, but most of the info/preconceptions would have come the football department (Rhode/Cripps-led), so we're likely to see Logan, Thomas, Salter (as a backman), and D Stewart stay on the list.

I'm very happy that Newton survived the cull, hopefully Burgess will be able to get Ben up and running for the whole season!

Blight axed more players than we have (through trade & delist) IIRC.
So new coach Blight sacked his players, but new coach Hinkley didn't. He left that to Rohde. If he is that weak and disinterested, get rid of him now.

To some extent its a different era and its not fair to judge on the same criteria. I think the only coach we could've recruited that would've done (well deserved) Blight-esque cuts would be a hardhead with nothing at stake like Andrew Jarman. Still, its pretty disappointing.

Edit: I suppose someone intimately familiar with the Port list would have been in a good position to make harsh cuts, like if we'd promoted an assistant coach that genuinely had their own views on how the club should be run that were different to the previous coach. We had a go at that, and Primus `stuck fat' with the boys.

Given we were in coach recruiting mode for two months, its also a bit disappointing that Hinkley only seems to be getting up to speed on the list now. You'd think it might be worth putting time into knowing the situation of a potential employer; even if he hadn't got the job, the knowledge of our list would've been useful for GC to beat us in 2013 onwards.

That's a massive call
I was being sarcastic.
My point being that people blaming Rhode for the call to cut players re being shortsighted if they don't believe that Hinkley and Richo would collectively have a deep knowledge of our list and would have made the final decisions.

Dreadful comparison. When Blight took over the Cows he had a significantly longer lead-in, and he swung the axe on apparently valuable players in a reasonably functioning football team. Plus his club could financially afford to give the boot to contracted players. Blight owned those changes, and the cultural change that eventuated at the AFC. Almost none of that applies to Hinkley. Hinkley will surely have had a little to say about our planned delistings but to call him 'weak and disinterested' is the sort of stuff I'd expect from 5DoubleCrow.

Little surprised about Phillips. Could have been worth a trade to collingwood in exchange for all future father-son rights to Ryan Lonies offspring.

You should have read the post that I replied with that mentions sarcasm.

I have a feeling that Banner's career trajectory will closely follow Mitch Farmers.

Mitch Farmer was never league standard and was only ever rated for sticking 2 solid tackles in the Saints game where Salter looked amazing before getting concussed.

Banner, like Adam Thomson and Nick Lower before him, looked very promising in the extremely limited time he was given.

6/19 games with 20+ possessions. Bah, his opponent or something or other.

In Logan, Ebo and Thommers we trust!!

Newton I'm fine with staying. Hitchcock - like Daniel Stewart and Nick Salter - needs a massive lift to have a sustained period in the side. Because another season injured or as SANFL regulars surely means these three are gone.
