Jack Ziebell should be a lock for everyone. Should average 105+

Current midfield is Ablett, Selwood, Ziebell, Jack, Coniglio & Wingard

Correct me if im wrong but doesnt Ziebell miss the first 3 or 4 games through suspension?

To me a midfield lock is someone more like 120+

Ziebell is $428K which is an awkard price to pay for someone you hope will break out. That price reminds me of Kurt Tippett in 2010.

Even if he does average 100 it's still 20 points per game off the best mid premiums that other teams will have so you will find yourself faced with the dillemma of whether he needs to be "upgraded" a la Cotchin last year.

I think if you were sure Ziebell would step up to 115 ppg then to me he becomes a better option but that's a big step up from 79.5 in 2011.

Ziebell misses the first two games.

I meant he should average 105 minimum, I could see him averaging around the 120 mark though. Given that he had alot of sub effected scores last year he is very undervalued.

You've only got 6 midfield spots and that is the position you need 6 of the best scoring players you can find. To commit one of those spots to a $428K player on the hope he will match the likes of Judd, etc could be a mistake. If we were discussing him in the forwards (or if you planned to switch him forward later on) then that's a different matter.

Even then, I still think it is an awkward price. I think you'd want to pick him as a keeper who ends up in your forwards.

So I take it your somehow fitting 120+ averaging players in every position? I guess someone like Coniglio, Buntine, Wingard etc can't be considered locks because they won't average 120

Coniglio, Buntine, Wingard etc are all under 200k, you might want to think before you type...

I'd rather a 170k player averaging 60 as opposed to a 430k player averaging 60...

Opportunity cost....

Premiums are priced they are for a reason, you get what you pay for.

If your so in love with Zeibell lock him in mate, he'll be a point of difference if anything else...

FWIW i think Zeibell is a plonker, one of those players who look good but will never be great but somehow sratch out a 200+ game career...

Ziebell is also a lock for me, he is at a risky price but if he doesn't get injured he'll get massive scores, and my other 5 players are proven stars at Supercoach. Get on Ziebell at his starting price,u might think his expensive now, but at seasons end he'll be worth 550k +

My midfield is so far:
Ablett (Captain)
Watson
Swan
Selwood
Ziebell

Here's a player I'd recommend from North: Sam Gibson. Just won the time trial, and as a first year rookie will probably be very inexpensive.

A few others:
-Shaun Atley, Played a few good games last year but has had a really good pre-season and could take a big step next year.
-Ayden Kennedy, has been on the list for a few years now and hasn't been able to play, looked very good last NAB cup, but he did his ACL towards the end of it. If he does play this year, it's likely he'll be a rebounding defender or key forward, but I think supercoach lists him as a midfielder.

Eventually ideally I'll have 6 mids averaging 120+, yes

That's the engine room of our teams. You don't want guys scoring 90-100 taking up one of those 6 premium midfield spots in your final team.

As this is a thread about the midfield and who is a "lock" I am commenting on who I consider is a lock in that position when we are talking players other than our rookies. Ziebell may fit in some teams as a forward but that's a different debate. The OP is suggesting starting Ziebell as one of his premium mids (ie, a keeper) and I am questioning it.

I have been here before talking up a $400K young player who is going to break out and it is very costly if he doesn't live up to your hopes.

Even if he goes up to $500K he still won't be scoring like an Ablett, Murphy, etc. I suspect you'll either switch him to your forwards and make him your 6th or 7th forward or upgrade him to one of the elite midfielders you want in your final team.

Woops, yes you're right. SC Gold has Ziebell as a midfielder only. Ignore all my comments relating to M/F switches. He's even less on my rader now than when I thought he was MPP. At NM, there's Swallow as the standout premium to compete for points with and then the likes of Bastinac coming back and being talked up. There'd be others I can't think of now.

Interested to hear peoples thoughts and preferences about the following,

Coniglio / Caddy / Morabito / Wingard

All around a similar price range and should all see quite a bit of game time.

Morabito looks a steal at that price. Will watch his preseason very closely.
Caddy is priced too high for someone who has only played 2 games.
The other two are watches, but if I get Morabito, I can't see myself being able to fit either of them in.

caddy for me

fact is he is dominating pre season and could be be this years shuey

priced about the same and dominated in the under 18's

Surprised at the Ziebell talk I've gotta say.
  • Played a solid 21 games last season - averaged about 79ish. Should improve but not to premium status
  • Priced awkwardly in the not much to gain more to lose bracket
  • Will not finish in the top 8 scoring midfielders.
Thats a big old pass from me fellas. But the one thing about this Supercoach game is the thrill of proving an old battle hardened Supercoach warhorse like me wrong.

Dont get me wrong - good mates with Ziebs - think he's tops and will be in top notch form. But this games not about hearts - its about heads.

Could be wrong, but I thought Mora and Caddy had interrupted preseasons. Think Morabito may not even be available round 1.
Coniglio seems ready for AFL level, but I won't spend that much money on a rookie myself. Not sure about Wingard, but you'd think he'd walk in to the Port team going on last years form.

Last Preliminary Midfield Spot is out of A. Swallow / D Thomas / D. Mundy. Not sure which way to lean atm. Not sure if we have seen the best of Swallow? Love the upside of Thomas. Mundy is extremely consistent at churning out 100's when fit. I love having a consistent mid, a lot like K.Kornes who used to get you 100 every week a few years back. A set and forget type player.

Which way?

I think there's some method in the madness actually.

I watched a fair bit of North last year.

He wasn't match fit for a good half a season, being his first year back from 2 broken legs.

He averaged 111.2 in the second half of the season.

Calling him a lock is ridiculous, and this thread is 12 month's premature imo, he won't get you the numbers you need from your premium midfielders next year, but I suspect he will have a big breakout year.

FWIW I think he will be an absolute SC beast in the coming seasons.

Wells, Harvey probably being the main ones.
