this crap has to stop, can the people on this board stop turning into essendon fans please, getting real old the unnatural hate for players

Everyone's just having a laugh. You need to be less up tight about it. It's the internet, after all.

Callinan is 30, I'd prefer a 25 year old Nahas to be honest.
Nahas virtually for free would be a great get. We need that small forward with goal sense. Lean year but so what, we have 3 or 4 players we could let go to make a spot for him.

I feel you, but still... I won't apologise for not accepting mediocre players. We're not obliged to love them just because they play for Melbourne.

I was all over Jetta last pre-season, he looked really good playing as a small defender and I thought it could be his year. Instead he spent another season showing very little and being in and out of the team. Surely you can understand that we get frustrated with these players who we think are young, but who keep putting out below average performances in their 4th, 5th and 6th seasons.

not love them no, but can you imagine if some of these blokes came to these forums... bit overkill dont you think? Reminds me of Juice, AFL is a pretty elite level and Juice is ripping it up in the SANFL for example

Cut Jetta and promote Clisby IMO. Keep Taggert - give him say a further 2 years. Shit of an injury to have in his first year, same as Evans with the back. But he doesn't have it anywhere near as bad as Evans with the level of management and so should now be able to really develop.

Remember that we didn't cut Bennell til really late last year either.

I don't think anything particularly spiteful has been said mate. Some players are just better than others.

Re: Jetta, he has some good attributes and is a likeable type - I think most of us want to see him succeed and have given him leeway. Over his 5 years though (injury aside) he just hasn't made a statement. Bennell had far better years in 2009-2011 than what Jetta has ever had and he's but a distant memory so we need some perspective here. There's nothing negative in this.

They don't have to come to these forums to here it. Queens birthday last year I was sitting around the players that couldn't make the team, the whole stadium was ripping into Cale Morton, after the game as we're leaving some woman started flogging comments off to the players how crap they are, Joel Macdonald turned around and tore her a new one, my dad kinda tapped him on the shoulder and said dont worry mate because he was about to punch her lights out.

thats my point though, yes whatever critique, I am one of Dunn's biggest critics probably but there has gotta be a line? I dunno, maybe I am seeing something coz I actually see things when he plays, I see what has kept him on the list. Yes he needs to expand what he can do but games would help!

You would hate to be a footy player though wouldn't you? Price of popularity I guess though?

I know I felt sorry Morton when everyone was hurling abuse at him and all his mates are hearing it, that's the price of playing footy though

Jetta is a great guy with a heart of gold. If he doesn't get delisted I would like him to get the ball occasionally in the future though.

When you've had as many lean years as we've had, it's pretty understandable that certain players end up becoming scapegoats for the fans to get stuck in to. We have a lot of players that fall into that unfortunate basket of 'have potential, but never really delivered'. I'm inclined to cut a little bit of slack and see how some of them go this year under a substantially better coaching regime. However, given a lot of them are in the 23-25 age bracket, it is make-or-break time.

FWIW I do hope Jetta gets another go next year and has a break out season.

Nev Jetta and Rory Taggert are on the chopping block. They are uncontracted, and surely Roos wants three cracks at the draft and PSD #2. Rory is a young mid, who with a preseason under his belt, could be a good player for us. And we are crying out for mids. Nev is an under-performing, one paced small player who has good defensive skills and courage but little else. He has been on the list five years. He has a bad run of injuries, but I don't see Nev taking us anywhere in the future. It's a no-brainer for mine.

No rookie upgrades. If Mitch Clisby is a senior 22 player he will earn his way on to the list through his performance again next year. We need new blood on the list.

It was a pretty lame joke really, if we can't joke about our players then you would find this would be a very boring and frustrating club to support all the time, instead of just game day. I choose to add humor because I don't believe in pulling my hair out over everything melbourne, humor is good it puts the game into perspective sometimes.

I disagree, we dont need more players, yeah we are shallow in midfield depth but we have enough talent on the list to take us places

We need everyone except nathan jones to be better...
simple as that, im sick of us bringing in new talent and expecting them to be better than what we have

Our 2nd pick which is in the 40's? is not offering any more than blease, strauss, watts, tapscott, kent, toumpas, jetta, dunn or any of the guys we already have if they be the best footballers they can be

I've seen enough of Neville Jetta to know he's a battler at AFL standard. And I'd rather take my chances on a speculative kid than some of the 3/4 players at the bottom of our list.

I think the debate comes down to whether we can get a decent player at PSD2. There may be a player too good to let up but only time will tell. To get that PSD player though we have to delist one more regardless of whether Clisby is upgraded or we use pick 57 as a live pick.

My gut tells me we'll be using PSD2 but we won't delist any more players until we have some clarity.

I'm kind of hoping a decent ruck prospect can be available at either 40 or 57 though.

I'm really hoping we are whispering sweet nothings in the ear of an uncontracted player who is still wanted by his club, and we have heard nothing about it to this point. We have the first live pick in the PSD. (GWS have committed to Jed Lamb.) Make it happen MFC.

Yep, this PSD pick could be quite dangerous in the hands of someone like Roos and we've had quite a bit of time to plan how to use it. Players like Jetta should be nervous atm.

I know Rory Taggert is. The poor kid is training away at the club with no idea about what's happening next year. He's had no contact from the club with regards to 2014. It is a very hard time for some of the boys.

It's a pretty rough caper isn't it. Unfortunately when you raise your standards as a club this is what can happen. Gotta feel for the kid though.

Except some of these guys have spent 4 or 5 years on the list and done nothing. It's not like they're behind Hodge, Mitchell, Sewell, Burgoyne, Lewis and so on... they haven't been able to jag a spot in what's been a terrible team for a number of years.

Pedersen - 27 next year
Dunn - 27 next year
Bail - 26 next year
Jetta - 24 next year
Strauss - 24 next year
Nicholson - 24 next year
McKenzie - 24 next year
Blease - 23 next year
Tapscott - 23 next year

Not saying we should dump all of the above, but they're not ruckmen or key position players (Pedo aside), so by the time they're 23 or 24, it's reasonable to expect them to be well developed and holding down spots in our match day 22. For whatever reason, be it injuries, crap development coaching, rubbish drafting, cluelessness from the club in general, we haven't gotten the most out of development players in recent years. Getting Roos in doesn't mean we suddenly make up for lost time on those guys.

We have to cut our losses - can't hang on to a number of 23-25 year old VFL regulars for the sake of it. If you could have 100 players on a list there'd be plenty of time and leeway to hold on and give a player every opportunity, but there's not. I'd much prefer taking a crack at an 18 year old with pick 40 than hope one of Jetta, Bail or Nicho make a gigantic professional leap and suddenly become good enough to hold down a spot. A few people here point to the draft and say it's a lottery - the more tickets you buy, the better chance you have at winning. Sure, we've been comparatively poor at drafting recently, but let's not compound the problem by hanging on to duds for a few extra years on a flimsy wish that they'll suddenly make the grade. Bin them and throw a few more hats in the ring.
