So Corey will be playing next year yet most of you don't have him in your lists.

Wouldn't it be good to send him back and have Mackie take over his mid field role?

ABSOLUTELY NO WAY, never down back, liability++
Extractor only, off the bench, or VFL. IMHO.

Those of us that don't have him in the side probably have omitted Pods and Stokes as well, for us it's about the rebuild and finding out the best positions for the youngsters coming through and identifying those who will be the meat on the bones of the existing group going forward.
All of Corey,Stokes and Pods will I expect see plenty of action through next year via rotations, the general and of cause the dreaded injuries and suspensions.
Keep in mind it's as much about 2015/16 as it is about today.

FB Enright Lonergan Guthrie
HB Murdoch Taylor Brown
C Bartel Duncan Mackie
HF SJ Walker Varcoe
FF Menzel Hawkins Motlop
R Simpson Selwood Christensen
IC Vardy Smedts Kelly sub Horlin-Smith

not included chapman, west, stokes, j hunt, t hunt, j pod, corey

too much depth in my opinion

Like the look of this side would go either West or Vardy in 2nd ruck and Chappy in forward pocket in place of Mots

FF: Chapman, Hawkins, Kersten
HF: Menzel, Vardy, Varcoe
C: Bartel, Johnson, Mackie
HB: Guthrie, Taylor, Brown
FB: Enright, Lonergan, J. Hunt

R: West, Kelly, Selwood

I/C: Stokes, Christensen, T.Hunt, Duncan
Trying to find a spot for Simpkin, and H-Smith

this is the side that could be playing at the end of the year.

No Pods?

Stringer should be part of all your sides and you know it damn well.

If it wasn't for his brain fart off field, you would have him as a starter.

Kid will be a GUN.

Hard to do. So many names! Included a few of the trade rumours for fun. I will go-

B- Smedts Lonergan Rivers
HB- Enright Taylor Murdoch
C- Mackie Kelly Duncan
HF- Johnson Vardy Caddy
F- Menzel Hawkins Varcoe

R- West Selwood Christensen

Int from- Chapman, T Hunt, Kersten, H-S, Stokes, Motlop, Guthrie

Caddy before Chapman?

Not sure if serious.

Yeah I am serious. Hard call, Id probably have Chappy in the 22, but I am going by the fact that if we get Caddy, we will be paying a price that suggests the club thinks he will be a ready to go player (which I agree with). Also, Chapman showed this year he is no longer capable of playing through the midfield with a consistent effect. Up forward, he still has the smarts and ability to find space and create goals, but he lacks the speed and defensive pressure to be effective through the midfield. Caddy can do all of this, and will only improve playing in this side.

FB: Rivers Lonergan J.Hunt
HB: Mackie Taylor Enright
C: Duncan Kelly Varcoe
HF: S.Johnson Vardy Bartel
FF: Chapman Hawkins Menzel
R: West Selwood Christenson
Int:T.Hunt, Guthrie Sub: Murdoch

Rotations: Simpson, Stokes, Corey, Pods, Smedts

Rivers slots in nicely, I really hope we get him. We could also do with a better ruckmen and if we could find this years Maric or Jacobs it'd be brilliant. Both went cheaply last year.

I like the side overall, apart from Rivers as I have no idea whether he'll even be there. I'm far from convinced right now that Vardy is a better key forward option than Pods (who still kicked 35 goals this year). Hopefully by halfway through the season he is, but not yet personally. As there are only two on the bench plus a sub I'll add Smedts from your list.

C: M.Duncan J.Selwood J.Bartel

Inter (from): T.Hunt B.Smedts J.Corey S.Motlop M.Stokes Podsiadly T.West/D.Simpson

Missing out, but who I wouldn't be surprised to see play 10+ games: J.Murdoch, Sherringham, Simpkin, Stringer, M.Brown, J.Walker, O.Stephensen, G.Horlin-Smith, Schroder, Kersten, Eardley & Cowan

= 37 pretty good players!

2013 Predictions
Most improved player: J.Murdoch/N.Vardy
Leading Goal Kicker: T.Hawkins (70-80)
Best & Fairest: H.Taylor/J.Selwood
Ladder Position: 5th-7th

I just want to say, young Nathan Vardy is going to be a gun Forward/Ruckman. He is exactly the type of player capable of tearing games apart. When he is in the ruck, he has shown great athleticism in the air and on the ground. Then he also goes forward and can take strong contested marks and kick goals at crucial times. He is going to be a fine player in years to come. :thumbsu:

All the best in Season 2013. :thumbsu::)

It's pretty impossible to pick a best 22. We know there will be 30+ players get games next year and our best 22 come finals will be purely based on form and fitness. For what it's worth I can't wait to see 3 players in particular next year:

Menzel
Smedts
Simpson

I really hope Simpson gets given a crack as first ruck because I reckon these 3 are ready to explode as AFL footballers.

If you want to see Simpson as our first ruck, where do you see West and Vardy next season?
West as backup, Vardy as permanent forward? One of them missing out?

IMO if Simpson becomes a genuine #1 ruck which is a big if then West falls out of the 22 and becomes a depth player IMO.

Guthrie Lonergan Mackie
Murdoch Rivers Varcoe
Duncan Johnson Motlop
Bartel Taylor Menzel
Smedts Hawkins Christensen
Vardy Kelly Selwood

T Hunt West Enright Chapman

Taylor and Hawkins could be the best duo in the comp.

Need some dash in defence Varcoe Murdoch etc

Stokes, J Hunt, Corey, Wocjinski, Pods, D Simpson, Brown, Gillies, Byrnes either back ups or help with the kids in the VFL.

I agree with most of this team, I think people are being too harsh on our older guys. I'd change a few things however

B: J. Hunt - T. Lonergan - C. Enright
HB: A. Mackie - H. Taylor - C. Guthrie
C: T. Varcoe - S. Johnson - M. Duncan
HF D. Menzel - T. Hawkins - S. Motlop
F: J. Bartel - J. Podsiadly - P. Chapman
R: T. West - J. Selwood - J. Kelly

INT: N. Vardy - J. Corey - A. Christensen - T. Hunt (sub)

EMG: B. Smedts - M. Stokes - S. Kersten

That's pretty close. I'll put in an updated one with a minor alteration or two:

B: J. Hunt - Lonergan - Guthrie
HB: Mackie - Taylor - Enright
C: Kelly - Johnson - Duncan
HF: Menzel - Podsiadly - Varcoe
F: Smedts - Hawkins - Chapman
R: West - Selwood - T.Hunt

INT: Vardy - Christensen - Bartel - Motlop

Hopefully, by the end of next year, or mid-year if we're lucky, Pods won't be in the team and Simpson and West will be the two ruckmen, and Hawkins and Vardy the two key forwards.

I am not sure about who is best 22 next season - but all indications from this season is that the MC like Smedts - and I think some are forgetting this.

If he shows any form at al he will be in the best 22 I reckon.

At the moment Murdoch and Motlop cannot play in the same side with their small bodies, clear mistake by coaching staff against Freo.

B. Hunt Lonergan Guthrie/Rivers(would be very handy)
HB. Enright Taylor T.Hunt(tagging)
C. Duncan Kelly Christensen
HF. Johnson JPod Varcoe
F. Chapman Hawkins Menzel

R. West Bartel Selwood

I/C Smedts, Vardy, Mackie Sub Motlop

Emerg Horlin-Smith,Murdoch,Simpkin, Kersten

No Corey or Stokes
