Draft Review 2013 - Redo the 2013 AFL draft

You say you're basing it on the first 2 years, but also state "I rate Aish a little higher than Sheed at the moment. That's just my opinion though".

Clearly Sheed has been far better than Aish in these first 2 years, which is supposedly your criterion.

I suspect the only reason you rate Aish higher is that he's now at your club.

No doubt you started the thread for the same reasons.

You couldn't be further off. I wasn't a fan of Aish coming to the Pies because I thought we had a good crop of young players and I don't even think he is in our best 22 at the moment.

I have said numerous times I overlooked Sheed - and that could be because he plays in the West. My bad.

I have redrafted every draft since 2001 so this isn't a thread to boast Collingwood's recruiting and drafting. I started the thread because these articles have been quite popular and a great way to gauge different footy opinions.

Aish came 4th in the Rising Star in his first year. At no point during that year was Sheed near him.

Please tell me you didn't. You are using the RS award? This is the same award that thought Bontempelli wasn't the best player...and that Zach Merrett barely got a place...

Because collecting the ball off half back is the same as winning it on the inside
Aish played his first season on a wing and half forward flank. Was moved to half back this year to improve his defensive game according to Brisbane fans.

The point is, that Aish had a stellar first season, whilst Sheeds first was average. Aish's second was average and Sheeds second was stellar. They're not that far apart career wise, and the only reason people have that impression is because Sheed has had the more impressive recent form.

Sheed was stiff not to make the list, and the OP has already said they probably made a mistake in overlooking him. I'm really not sure what people's issues are with this.

No way it's daylight to KK, the kids a future AA who has had a very impressive first 2 years. While his not on the Bont / Cripps level of hype he really should be.

A HBF as good as they are is not rated higher than those 4. Would be at the 5-6 range with Zach Merrett the other one. Could make a case for either one at 5, no issue with Kade being 5. He has justified his draft position at 5. Good selection by GC.

Sheed is winning the ball on the inside and had a stellar year going head to head against the best. He's head and shoulders above aish who has collected easy ball on the outside. Its a no contest really

I would in a heartbeat. Scharenberg and Aish in particular are going to be seriously good players, and Langdon, whilst not having the ceiling of the previous two, will be a 200 game player.

In a game that requires 18 men per team on the field at any one time, give me 3 great players over one any day of the week. I love Bonts, reckon he will be a gun, but you'd be mad not to take that trade.
Langdon, aish and scharenberg are 3 great players????

Bonti will be a gun?? He already is. Top 20 Brownlow finish, 13th ranked player overall on AFL rankings, and his 2015 season ranked as the 6th best. All as a 19 year old.

Bontempelli averaged 21 disposals in 2015. He is a good player but the player ratings is not the best judge of a player.

You'd need to watch the games to see his true value. When you are roosting 60m passes every 3rd/4th disposal the value of your possesions tend to be higher than a few cheap handballs.

He is a little overrated and it all stems from the Pendlebury, tall midfield syndrome. Tall lopping midfielder leads to that impression.

The player ratings rank Langdon as the 3rd best player of the 2013 draft, which I don't agree with and prove those ratings aren't accurate.

Yes. None are stars, but Berg and Aish both have exceptionally high ceilings and certainly project as future stars. Langdon is definitely one of the better performed players of the 2013 draft. Doesn't have the ceiling of a top 10 pick, but projects as a 200 gamer. I'd class that as great.

For his age, he's absolutely a gun, but I tend to reserve that kind of praise for league elites, which Bonts isn't yet, despite the dumb AFL ranking system. Youre acting as if he's already a super elite player, which he isn't yet, and even if he was, you'd be hard pressed to find a club who would be willing to offer the equivalent to Scharenberg, Aish and Langdon for him. That's Judd type currency, and whilst he might be worth that in a few years, he's certainly not yet.

Saw how good Scharenberg is again in the Collingwood v Sandringham VFL final a few weeks ago. Just took intercept mark after intercept mark across HB and the wing. It was like watching Sam Fisher at his best in the GF years.

If he gets back to full fitness and form he could definitely make a trade of Bont for him, Aish and Langdon worthwhile. He's bloody good. Just plays well week after week and doesn't really have any holes in his game. Does everything to a really high level.

Neither is just looking at average disposals though.

Didn't you know that a midfielders worth is measured by possessions? As opposed to just plain being a player that can shift a game by himself (seriously, his moving up forward for us against North Melbourne was pretty much what opened up the game because he's literally a KP sized player that moves like a midfielder)

Salem has shown more than Kelly, Aish, Hartung and Lang. Also Sheed should be much higher. Boyd much lower. paychecks don't make a player

I don't see Salem as having as much Upside as Kelly,Aish and Sheed
