Luke Ball made it all the way to Pick #30 in 2009 - because Collingwood and he manipulated the draft.

You think other clubs wouldn't have had a sniff?

No club wants to recruit a player that doesn't want to be there.
Luke Balls groin was holding him back he was barely in the Saints best 22 Jack Watts is a 22 year old KPF with no injury worries

If Watts wants out the club that he wants to go to only has to manipulate the draft to get him. No trade required.
I don't understand? If melbourne can't get a trade for him, just draft him back? Our picks are before Carlton and everyone else bar GWS.

Wouldn't be too worried it won't happen Carlton will hand over their first rounder and the deal will be done.

i dont think Watts is worth Car 1st round pick, but i think he is worth more than there 2nd round pick.

I would be happy to trade Watts for Yarren both high picks both havent lived up to there potential, and both are soft sound fair to me.

If i was Car i wouldnt go after Watts they are not going to win a premiership with Judd and Waite, Car should thrown everything to try and get number 1 pick to go after Boyd.

Melbourne need a ruckman soon so maybe Hampson/Warnock + 2nd rounder for Watts

That could be an option but i think Melb are hoping either Gawn or Spencer can take over the number 1 ruckman spot, I just prefer to trade Watts for a runner type player or even try and get a midfielder for him.

Don't think we need Yarren, we need harder bodied players, we have Sam Blease to play the same role.

Don't think we need a ruckman either, Gawn, Spencer and Fitzpatrick have all broken into the side this year and are showing real improvement, plus we have Mitch Clark too, we really need hard bodied midfielders.

Carltons depth is pretty poor so I can't see them giving a mid up. If Lamb ask to be traded back to Victoria we could package him up with a pick for Watts

Forgot about Spencer I like what I've seen from him.

Wouldn't take Aish then. I still can't work out why Melbourne didn't take Wines over Toumpas Wines is huge.
I think every club would of taken Toumpas over Wines, Toumpas wasn't expected to be available at pick 4. Wines was also expected to be the most ready player in the draft. Melbourne already had Viney as an inside mid so adding some outside class isn't a problem to me.

U cant just look at in short term tho, Wines was always going to be ready to go from day 1, so who knows years down the track Toumpas could be a way better player than wines only time will tell.

As for Aish this year what ive heard and seen, it seems the top rated mids in this years draft are skinny type of players but that shouldnt scare you, with pick 2 we should just take the best mid there is.

I just think alot of Melb supporters are scared if the player is skinny thinking we have another morton on our hands.

you would think that if watts asks to go to carlton that all parties would come to the table pretty amicably.

dont see melb stressing over losing him or carlton being overly douchey about the whole thing.

agree 1st way too early and 2nd round pick too late. 3 way trade where carlton send a reasonable player elsewhere for something for melb

Same, I agree..
But Melbourne have a history of overlooking those types of blokes - in favor of the soft, athletic/developing types of players, think Cook, Morton, Gysberts, Watts.
We won't give a rundown on who they could've taken in those positions, it's too embarrassing.
Cook, Morton and Gysberts are gone, Watts looks to be nearly gone - after an underwhelming start to his career.

Considering their track record, I was gobsmacked Melbourne drafted Toumpas.
Wines was exactly what they needed and had already shown he was superior to Toumpas in the champs.
Wines was a tackling machine and an in and under gun, yet the Dees overlook him.

They will get a priority, but I understand other sides whinging about it.
Demons continuously pick the wrong types, so should the AFL continue to reward them for this?
An argument can be made that they shouldn't, but if they don't, the Dees will get worse.
Hence why the AFL has put it's own people in to do all these things, wouldn't surprise me if they even put Jason Taylor in there.

I didn't want to harp on about it too much but it's the truth.

Just throwing it out there - Betts + 2nd rounder for Watts?
