Hey guys, what are the thoughts on Dahlhaus' fitness and hence his role in the team this year? I picked him in a draft league last year and was disappointed early, when I suppose he was starved of opportunities in the forward line of a pretty rubbish team.

Obviously he finished with a bang later on - was this to do with the better form of the team, or did he play more of a midfield role? Probably a combination I guess, but it then begs the question as to whether he will be playing more in the midfield this year.

Super exciting player, valuable goal-kicking nous, but I guess what he needs to do is score more consistently through manic tackling and more touches in the midfield rather than relying on crumbs up forward.

Thoughts?

I'm considering.

This recent article answers most of your questions. http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/a...nce-back-in-2014/story-fni5fazt-1226817938409

But you're lucky I answered after you called us "a pretty rubbish team"! But can overlook it as you're a Dees supporter who must be hurting :p

Might just need to choose your words a bit more diplomatically - perhaps a young inexperienced team not a rubbish team?

Dahl, towards the end of the year was learning how to shake a tag, considering he has been tagged since his early games, just shows how instrumental he is in setting up the play. In terms of fitness he has had a good pre season from all reports and is expected to take another step forward this year. I would strongly consider him.

I think he's going to have a very good year. It's expected that he'll be playing a bit more in the midfield, but he's still best up forward where he can crumb goals.
To put a label on how I think he'll be played - pretty similar to last year, just with a little bit more time in the midfield. It's just about getting off to a good start and consistency for him.
As far as fitness goes, he hasn't done all the training this pre-season, but we never really heard if anything was wrong, so it may have just been management. He's looking pretty fit though.

Reckon he's in for a huge year, he was struggling with the tag early but showed what he is capable of when he started breaking it later in the season. Also with Dickson playing a full season and us having some better smalls around him he wont always be copping the best small defender. Should also push up to the midfield a bit more, will go up another level this year Imo.

I'd still play my best small defender on Dahlhaus if I were an opposition coach. If you can't contain his movement, he'll just push up the ground and hurt you with his entries. Dickson is very good at his role but if you take him away from the square his impact is limited.

Thanks for all the answers guys, very informative... I won't be expecting him to really smash out a 10-15 point increase in his average based on this, but as that HS article said if he can be consistent through the whole season he should be fairly valuable as a back-up forward (draft league) with the potential to occasionally score big 100+ totals.

Sorry you all took that bit the wrong way! As a Dees fan I do of course have a lot of authority when it comes to talking about rubbish teams, having seen plenty of them over the last few years. Fair to say you guys weren't doing well in the first half of last year... but I was stoked to see the turnaround later on (importantly, it was after we beat you) and to see your young blokes playing with plenty of heart and pluck. Inspiring stuff. I was also a bit jealous of seeing yet another team almost look as bad as the Dees before leaving us well and truly languishing behind.

Yeah I would definitely be playing my best small defender on Dahl from the first bounce because he can be a match winner when he gets going, just with more guys like Dickson, Higgins, Hunter around him if one of them get on top and start threatening to kick a bag which they are all quite capable of then the opposition coach has something to worry about. I just think overall he might cop a little less attention this year, well unless he does go to the next level anyway :p

Really shouldn't need to explain it at all, we truly were rubbish in the first half of the year. After last night's win you guys look like you have a lot to look forward to (especially that JKH kid, can we have him? :D)

A couple of questions while you're here. How many games do you reckon JKH/Georgiou will play during the year, and what sort of sub risk? And I heard from all reports that Tyson played pretty well, what's up with his score of 38?

I'm considering the rather eye-gougingly excruciating idea of selecting Shaun Higgins in my team as my sixth forward on the field (after shuffling around a few other players to accommodate the extra need for money). Is anyone here able to tell me just about horrendous/not so horrendous/pretty reasonable idea that is and whether he will be able to score highly and play in the midfield enough to make it worthwhile?

Don't do it, man. Never do it.

Has been in the rehab group most of preseason, won't be rushed back into it. If fit and playing he has obvious value, but that is a big IF for now.
For now, a pretty horrendous idea to start Higgins. But in 4 weeks time, maybe not so bad.

I thought it may have been a bit too masochistic inflicting the pain of having Higgins in my side. Much appreciated.

However another mid-range forward I've been considering is Crameri, given the supposed increased midfield time. Does anyone have any points to raise about him?

Has been absolutely smashing every facet of preseason. Definitely one to consider. Wont play heaps of midfield time, just a bit every now and then.
Extremely fit though. Nothing to worry about there.

Just curious as to how you also see your forward line operating this year. I'd imagine Jones will still most likely play as the deepest tall forward with Stringer playing a third/lead-up forward role and the various small forwards performing their roles too, but where do you see Crameri fitting into this picture? Is he likely to fill that long-desired first/second tall role or do you see him being more of a mobile, slightly taller forward who will play in various parts and positions in the forward line?

Jones has always been a CHF, so it will be interesting if we put him closer to goal. I think for the sake of continuity and not changing him around, he'll play CHF again.
Stringer wont play every game, but when he does, he'll be playing fairly deep, I'd imagine.
For now, Crameri seems likely to be named at either FF or a HFF. If Campbell plays, he's on the HFF. If Campbell doesn't play, I'd say he's at FF.
I expect him to roam around a bit though, not stay deep all the time.

That would make sense about Jones, I do remember him during the school football days when he would play in the midfield, despite being a good 10cm taller than the rest of the team. Couldn't particularly kick back then either...

But I do thank you very much for the help, Crameri will certainly be a consideration right up to the cut-off.

You'd have to think Crameri presents value on his starting price. As Igloo said, he's been training with midfield group and is fitter than ever which surely means he can get to more contests over a game. I don't imagine he will play MID that much, but any time in the middle is usually a plus for fantasy scoring.

Hey timtamWB... firstly JKH, he looks an absolute gun! He is every chance to play plenty of games this season I reckon as we have been crying out for a genuine small forward for ages. The only vaguely similar type on the list really is Blease, and signs so far have pointed more to half back for him - plus his fitness is pretty average at best. If JKH does play he would be vested at some stage for sure.
Georgiou won't play many games I imagine... our first choice tall backs are obviously Frawley, Garland and McDonald with Pedersen the main backup and then Georgiou after that. So he's there as injury backup, which in fact could land him an early game or two with Garland recovering from a small surgery a few weeks back - he may not be ready for Round 1. In that case it may depend on how tall the Saints go as to whether Mr Bean gets a game. No sub risk really.
I can't comment too much on Tyson as I didn't see much of the game (and in fact none of the first half) but from what I have heard he was mainly involved in close quarters giving off handballs. I think he had 16 touches but was subbed out early in the third quarter - a planned move as his preseason was limited before Christmas - so all in all an encouraging start to the year. We're pretty bullish about Tyson... he's a smooth mover, classy and always with plenty of time to dispose of the ball.

Hi Guys,
Sorry to interrupt your board, but I was hoping for some thoughts on Redpath, I picked him up in a league a couple years back and was considering de-listing him. Will he play this year?
He is a depth player (rookie listed) at the moment. Would need a few injuries to key defenders before I could see him getting a game.

He's behind Roughead, Talia, Morris, Young, Williams, Austin, Roberts, and probably someone else I'm forgetting. Even then if he gets a game he probably won't score well.

Hey guys whats your wise opinions' on Lachie Hunter?

I was pretty keen on him even before today's game due to the number of vests he got last year, has a decent ceiling and looks to be pushing midfield a bit more? Decent score today even in wet weather and shortened game, looked real lively too.
Surely a best 22 and should avoid the vest or being left to rot in a fwd pocket??

Also kept an eye on Tutt and Stringer who are both bit cheaper but not as confident on.
Wont put a line through Stringer yet until I see him in less monsoonal conditions, great mobility for a "tall fwd" and should get less attention especially with big Crameri around (you're welcome btw, loved him :()

Going to be a gun. Not sure if he has enough endurance yet to run out a whole season, but will continue to improve on an already good base.

SC just isn't Stringer's game. Do not go anywhere near Tutt.
