I think we will pass on Duggan and get De Goey
Jordan De Goey

Position: Midfielder/utility
Height: 187 cm, Weight: 82 kg, DOB: 15/3/1996
Club: Oakleigh Chargers
Projected draft range: 10-20
Plays like: Jack Ziebell

Are you after a hard-nosed, contested ball-winning freak with an incredible overhead mark who can go forward and bag multiple goals? Then Jordan De Goey is your man. The cool De Goey made a fistful of his opportunity throughout the carnival, stamping himself as a favourite among draft experts. De Goey, a tough on-baller with a polished outside game, oozes class and x-factor: on top of that, he is the type of player who his teammates draw inspiration from. You need not look any further than his defining moment against Western Australia. De Goey hit an opponent player at full tilt with sheer ferocity, knocking the ball to ground level, before cracking in with a second effort to win the ball back and kicking a goal from outside 50 off two steps. The amount of energy in that piece of play personified exactly the type of player he is, and is why clubs are salivating over him as a draft prospect. De Goey has an impeccable sense of timing, a strong set of hands in close, and great ability overhead. He has a deep, penetrating kick that is dangerous around the arcs, and he runs through the middle where he can rack up a number of disposals in quick succession. He is a competitive beast who – although physical – has a sense of finesse and an array of sublime attributes that make him a unique prospect in this year’s draft. He was arguably the difference in Oakleigh’s Grand Final win, bagging three goals, taking eight marks and laying five tackles playing forward.

Draft De Goey.

#12 - Nakia Cockatoo (NT) 188cm 84kg MID with great athleticism and balanced game of inside/outside play
#33 - Nathan Drummond - 182cm 85kg MID/DEF with great speed and hardness, can play inside role, tested well at combine
#52 - Jack Lonie (VIC) - 174cm 67kg Small FWD who's pacy and has an accurate left foot
#70 - Billy Evans (VIC) - 189cm 88kg MID strong bodied inside mid
#88 - Anthony Miles (upgrade)
Rookie Draft
Jarred Petrenko (Adelaide) - 178cm 81kg Small FWD that we need
Errin Wasley-Black (NT) - 187cm 83kg HB/MID who was NT captain in '13, has improved his kicking and endurance
Mark Kovacevic (VIC) - 204cm 110kg RUCK develop him along side big Ivan and he could become a gem!
Ben Darrou (Richmond) - Bender, enough said.
or alternatively we try another defender like Matt Sully 196cm 95kg.

I would be very happy with De Goey :)

Same, and going by what Richardson said the other day I reckon we might. Implied we'll go with an inside mid early and speed later, De Goey fits the bill. Bit of the Fyfes about him, dare I say...

De Goey at 12 and Neal-Bullen at 33 would be a great combo. Then maybe someone like McLean or Anderson at 52.

Actually the guy I want most at 33 now is Lamb.

What I'd like to see happen and it's probably a little different to what people think should happen.

12. Connor Menadue 188cm 69kg 18 year old Midfielder
16 TAC Cup Games
11.5 kicks
8.6 handballs
20.1 disposals
3.8 marks
4.25 tackles
1 goal

Look at all the phantom drafts and this kid sits around the mid 20's pick wise and no doubt there will be a few here looking at this and saying WTF, but there is something about Menadue that screams out X factor and if we can develop him right he could become our Issac Smith type of winger who cruises up and down a wing all day and then when needed can turn on the jets and break a game open. Despite his light frame Menadue has shown a willingness to put his body in and win a hard ball or lay a tackle when it's needed. If you want to imagine the type of player he could become think Issac Smith from Hawthorn a player who gets it 20-25 times a game and averages a goal a game too.

33. Brayden Maynard 186cm 88kg 18 year old Midfielder
17 TAC Cup Games:
15.7 kicks
6.1 handballs
21.8 disposals
4.7 marks
5.8 tackles

Given our stated desire to land a mature bodied midfielder through the trade period, what better alternative than to pick a ready to go kid from the U/18s. Was named in the bests 12 times from 17 games for Sandringham this year having improved his endurance and contested ball winning ability. Around the ground he is a strong marking option and when given the chance can kick multiple goals. Despite his mature body he only turned 18 in September so effectively played the entire season as a 17 year old so would still have some development to come.

52. Nathan Drummond 181cm 85kg 19 year old Utility
12 TAC Cup Games:
16.2 kicks
10 handballs
26.2 disposals
6 marks
6.5 tackles

Having played VFL for us during the year the club would have got a real good look at him and hopefully like me would have liked what they saw. His combine results would have shot him up the rankings with a 9.59 3km time trial, 15.9 beep test, 27/30 kicking test, 26/30 clean hands test, 25/30 goal kicking test, 2.93 20m sprint, 23.95 repeat sprints, 76cm vertical jump & 90cm running vertical jump. Add all those impressive combine results to his ability to find the ball and he comes across as the perfect pick for our third round.

70. Josh Glenn 179cm 78kg 19 year old Defender

A highly rated kid for the 2013 draft who decided against nominating as he felt he wasn't ready, went back to the SANFL and worked on his game as a small defender/midfielder. Glenn is a defender who has a defensive mind set while also looking for a chance to get out and provide link up run off of HB. He averaged 22 disposals a game this year in the SANFL and doesn't mind pushing forward to kick a goal. Would be a handy addition to the list with Newman & Morris our only 2 viable small defenders.

88. Billy Evans 189cm 87kg 18 year old Midfielder
12 TAC Cup Games:
13 kicks
10.1 handballs
23.1 disposals
4.2 marks
3.2 tackles

Another big bodied inside midfielder who has been described as Josh Kennedy type of midfielder. While some might say we don't need to go so deep in the draft and should just elevate Miles with this pick I'd rather us take a kid like Evans in the draft and only carry the 4 rookies and simply use the rookie list for development purposes with the exception of Thomas who stays for another year.

NO CHANCE - Will be gone by our selection

Sounds like the Messiah but remember Greenberg said we're looking for a draftee whos last name ends with an 'n' or a 's'.

Feel sorry for Hampson as he has gone backwards at the Tigers . He will kick on once once he leaves Punt Rd , every one does .

Very true, but as bad as we are, we were never bad enough to have Bootsma in our starting 18

Ffs you couldn't even sack him for form, if it wasn't for knob gate he'd still be on your list

Thanks for this...interesting reading

Seems Cockatoo can easily slip from pick 12 and become a steal at 25...similarly with Menadue. Gees wish we had traded for a pick in the 20s somehow

If WC go Duggan will we go De Goey?

And what about Pickett...if he slips to 12 would we go for him?

Bootsma has bragging rights that in the three games that he played against the Tigers he won the lot .In the best players in all three games .

If Pickett drops to #12 - We would be crazy not to take him
I think we will take Duggan provided laverde,Weller,Pickett,Ahern are gone but never know with FJ , He may rate De Goey higher
Cockatoo is more a #20-#30 pick becuase he didnt play games in 2014 but if he had id rate him top 10-15 he has just turned 18 so massive upside and i wouldnt mind if we reached for him - But we wont and will be either at the Roo's or Dogs with their 2nd round picks
