It wasn't a memorable draft mate.

Check out the top 10. How many of these blokes will play 200 games?

Durdin is at the turning point, and Ed probably would have 50 games under his belt if not for a shithouse run with injury.

Had a quick look at that draft
Pretty crap one to be honest
Interestingly and ironically we could’ve taken Dougal Howard and/or Harris Andrews, who went in the 50s and 60s, but of course that’s all hindsight now

Nielson was always a strange choice; he felt like a massive reach at 25. EVW will end up being an absolute bargain if he can finally have some better luck with injury. Pretty poor drafting overall.

Garbage draft.

Durdin still has a chance to make something of his career but it isn’t looking good at this stage. Neilson was a real reach on draft night, Toby McLean would’ve been handy. EVW has a lot of potential but injuries haven’t allowed him a good run at it. Hopefully he gets an extended chance soon.

Higgins and Waite were the only reason we done well in that off season! Both have/were incredibly valuable pick ups.

Drafting 3x tall defenders with your first three picks was never particularly good list management. You can talk about best available all you like but they weren't all best available.

Andrews was Brisbane academy.

Didn't North bid on Andrews under the system that was in place back then?
Correct, we bid on Andrews with our Pick 35. This was the period where we seemed overly interested in Queensland players and drafted/bid on a lot of them.

Thanks for clarifying
Spewing they matched the bid , the only decent one we would’ve had out of Qld

And funnily enough Brisbane matched it.

They knew they had hidden one, and we must have been the only club that unearthed him.

Interesting that we rated Durdin ahead of him.

It’d be ****ing nice going into the next few years with Andrews at FB and Tarrant zoning off.

Hopefully Sam can get something going.

We were keen on Cockatoo and Geelong were keen on Durdin. Late in the piece Geelong swapped their thoughts to Cockatoo and subsequently we jumped on Durdin.

Both clubs still have their fingers crossed

Wasn't just us. Everybody did. He wasn't a controversial reach at 16, unlike Nielson. He was viewed as a versatile tall, a swingman who could ruck and skilful for his size. Andrews is more pure stopper, and bloody good at it, but not the type that gets rated as a 1st round prospect.

Through bad luck, bad management, or a bit of both, all our swingman types seem to have ended up as KPDs.

Not claiming that mate, and I remember Matt Rendell rating him the best KPD in the draft.

Still learning, however I would want to see more strength wise against the big KPF's and some more offensive footy from Sam.

Big year for Sam.

Big year for a lot of guys. I'll choose to be optimistic with the new coaches and vibe around the place.
