Personally I wouldn't be surprised if we were to organise a rather reasonable trade with GWS, though most likely at the expense of an important player or two in our team. If I were working at GWS, the main need for the team would be to attain a genuine small forward. While he isn't from Sydney, Luke Breust would be the first and major trade period target for me, particularly given the Giants' excess midfielders and high draft picks.

Perhaps something along the lines of Breust + first pick for O'Rourke + first pick (though I imagine we'd have to give more than that given O'Rourke was a no. 2 draft pick and their first pick would be around the same area), though this is obviously purely conjecture. I'd also imagine it would cause quite an amount of discontent if Breust were to be traded, but it would still be an idea worth contemplating particularly as we would quite likely pick up two highly rated midfielders/players. But that's all just crazy rambling and unbased thoughts.
breust is worth more than the no.1 draft pick. he will not be traded.

Pretty sure injuries have been the main reason but Clay Beams is a better player than what his AFL out put would suggest. If he was gettable I'd be happy to have him at Hawthorn.

We should be trying to entice 2012 draftees to come to us off their two year contracts. Hopefully we end up with the last pick of the first round, but that would probably make it hard to snare any of the top ten. O'Rourke(2), Menzel(11) and Garner(15) are midfielders that I believe haven't committed.

Not the news that everyone wants to hear but I have heard from a very reliable source that Gibbs is on his way to port at years end. Mark this down as it is a done deal! My friend works at visy in Victoria and has some inside knowledge on this. Also interestingly, David Mundy will be playing for hawthorn next year.

You guys can believe this or not I don't care, take it as you like but I know its very reliable.

Mate no chance we trade Bruest. Unless it is for O'Merea.

Watch Bruest become AA this year. He will start getting the kudos he deserves.

So that sounds like an internet guys says Mundy is here next year. I like the sound of it, but not too sure I believe it. Also if true I would have preferred we had a go at a 23 - 25 yo mid from either GWS or GCS. Saying that though, the Hawks said the same thing about a month ago so I would suggest that means we are getting Mundy.

I wouldn’t be surprised if we do what we’ve always done under Clarkson, especially since this draft has quality TALL timber in it, and we need to build our back line starting now. Snipe a player who fits now but isn’t going to cost us our position in the draft, and keep our first Rd pick.

This absolute panic for mids every year I don’t get, they are in every draft, end of story, the Roughies, Buddies, Boyd’s, Patton’s, Cameron’s, Tomlison’s etc are not, but when they are there you do not throw away your draft picks on mids.

It’s funny in a way in how people view draft picks and talent – this useless midfield of ours that has helped get us to into 3 GF’s for 2 flags has how many 1st round draft picks in it, or more important it seems the prized top ten pick?

Lewis – 7 Hale – 7 I’ll even throw Rioli in the middle since we’ve tried but his hammies won’t let him at pick 12...........oh yea and Burg goes through there when we’re in trouble.

Yet Carltank build a midfield of top ten, no number 1 picks, as there engine room, how far has it got them?

KEY POSITION PLAYERS WIN FINALS AND GF’S ALWAYS HAVE!!!!!!

PS: problem is GWS and GC have been given enough picks to cover all bases with absolute quality, and that is hard to beat.

Great post, agree 100%.

Whilst Mundy is a very good player, am I alone in thinking I'd rather Hawthorn not target him?
I do have reservations as a 4 year deal would make him 34, then I watch Burgs and think that Mundy can still be very dangerous at 33-34.
We would also weaken one of our main rivals if Mundy came our way.
Frawley and Mundy would be a fantastic result, add in McEvoy and Buddy going May be the biggest blessing vin our clubs history.

Someone mentioned Gibbs to Port, if so they have really turned their club around in a hurry.

I have some reservations, particularly comparing Burgoyne with Mundy.

Mundy is obviously a very good midfielder, but he's a one trick player. Gets the ball in the middle and has good endurance. Age may not do him any favours.

Burgoyne is an unique talent: an elite midfielder who plays forward & back. He plays on smalls and talls, and he plays everywhere. Very intelligent footballer.

There is no comparison really.

Mundy can play off the half back flank. Has an accurate and booming kick. At 1.92cm, Clarkson would love playing him as a KPD like he's done with Burgoyne/Hodge/Cheney.

The "panic" for midfielders (wouldn't totally agree with that term) is due to our aging midfield.
Yes its pretty solid but Mitch, Hodge, Burgoyne and Sewell are getting older and they are a seriously tough to replace.
I am more worried about our midfield than our KPP stocks right now.
Yes quality midfielders are more common than KPPs of worth but they still aren't always easy to get being that we often have a later pick.

Our defence is looking reasonable in terms of our next batch coming through, Schoenamakers will continue to improve and I reckon Heatherley will be a very good player.

Over the last 2 years I have relaxed a little about our midfield due to Hill coming on so well and from what I have seen of Jed (reckon he will be a star)
Time will tell who we go for and we have to back the club recruiter who are geniuses in my book, but my preference is for mids as we have more players to replace there in the next few years.

Not so keen on Mundy. I just think we would need to pay overs and give him 3+ years. 2 years for 400-450k and I'd take him comfortably.

Frawley? Throw the sink at him. Quality Kpd with 5 seasons of prime football in him for nothing but cash, which we have plenty of.

Then hit the draft.
