I would think the opposite would apply. If all are studying Arthur Miller, then they are collectively a single class. (I have made the assumption they are all studying it as a whole). This as opposed to a statement such as "My class are debating" where individually they are acting independently (2 or more distinct groups within the class). I'm not a teacher, mind you, so I won't press the point and concede mine was an understanding and not a taught or learnt knowledge.
Which is quoting directly from this week's Fancast. He certainly didn't completely quash the Beams rumour FWIW.
He quite cleverly said something along the lines of "If Beams wants to come here however...".
Why people just post tiny snippets of quotes when there is more there is beyond me.
HEY HEY HEY What a fantastic show!
Several of my teachers made the same mistake.I would think the opposite would apply. If all are studying Arthur Miller, then they are collectively a single class. (I have made the assumption they are all studying it as a whole). This as opposed to a statement such as "My class are debating" where individually they are acting independently (2 or more distinct groups within the class). . . . . . as mudWhich phrase is correct - the class is or the class are? Is the word class a singular noun or a plural noun? This question cannot be answered with Yes or No. Use the singular if you see the class as a group of students. Use the plural if you see the class as single students.
In British English the plural is used more often than in American English.
Sentence: The class is studying Arthur Miller. = I see the class as a group
Sentence: The class are studying Arthur Miller = I see single members of the class studying Arthur Miller
That should clear things up.
Lester and O'BrienWith Rich and Redden back next year who goes out of the side?
BRISBANE remain ready, willing and able to pounce on disgruntled Essendon star Patrick Ryder. The Lions have been in constant talks with the manager of the ruckman/key forward who is unhappy at the Bombers over the ongoing supplements saga. It is understood that Ryder has met with Essendon powerbrokers in the past few days but is yet to decide if he will stay at the club. Brisbane has been mindful to give Ryder time and space to make a decision about his future.
The Lions have always been the destination of choice if he opted to depart Essendon given his wife has a Queensland connection and Brisbane has significant space in its salary cap to headhunt genuine A-list talent like Ryder and Collingwood midfielder Dayne Beams. Brisbane CEO Greg Swann said last night that the Lions were keeping a close eye on any developments out of the Bombers. “We are monitoring the situation and we will be ready to move once we know of his position,’’ Swann said. The 26-year-old enjoyed an eye-catching 2014 campaign with 20 goals in 21 games along with 26 hit-outs and 13 touches per match.
You would think a fit Staker would be in our best 22?Lester and O'Brien
Umm so how about we pick up Dayne Beames for Pick 4 & Claye Beames?
Lester has to stay in the squad. He could play as a leading forward/backman and rotate in the midfield. He tends to spread really well from the contest early in games and if he can get his fitness up and do that the whole game he is a starting 15 player. Too good to have in the reserves.Lester and O'Brien
Same but he asked who would Rich and Redden replace both Lester and O'Brien are midfieldersYou would think a fit Staker would be in our best 22?
I still think we should trade Beams and Martin for Beams and Martin.
Around 850-900.So effectively, how much would be left to offer Beams?
Big coin, question is - can Collingwood match it?Around 850-900.
Doubt it. AFL Great, Travis Cloke, took a lot of salary cap space.Big coin, question is - can Collingwood match it?
He better kick 50 goals next year that's a lot of moneyAnd heres Robbo's take.

The Lions are confident Ryder, who has two years to run on a contract, will accept a five-year offer worth an estimated $650,000 a season.
