I reckon Hampton will improve significantly now that he'll have a crowd behind him...GWS need to get bums on seats soon or they are doomed i reckon.

Agreed. Went to our game in Sydney this year and the atmosphere was---non-existent. The respective cheer squads did their best, but the people around me just sat and watched. Bit of a cheer for a GWS goal, but not much.

On Foxtel ATM are themed match's .....i've been watching the GWS set of games from 2012 - 2015 ( car is being repaired,so working from home)

People, Hampton is a serious player ......even in the 2015 game i watched he was very good and i find it hard to understand why he fell out of favor.
It did say on the GWS website in 2013 that he struggled adhering to the team ethos

2102 game, 2013 game and 2015 game ......this guy looked composed, loved to run and take the game on, and his disposal was fine (not understanding the disposal ???)

In each game Brereton and others commented about Hampton having serious talent

He's a naturally attacking player who looks very comfortable thru the midfield ......he tackles and he's composed
He doesn't look comfortable in a pure lock down defensive role and i'd suggest he lost some of his opponents, which may explain why he fell out of favor

BUT !! ......Hampton is as talented as Menzel, make no mistake

He's only 22, just on 50 games ......and with his talent & played in the correct role ....he's a great pickup !!!

Might splice some of the games together on the weekend into a video
Very poor fitness and repeat efforts but something that can be worked on

He actually beat Eddie betts as a lock down defender in a game at Adelaide oval

There is no denying Hamptons talent, injuries when he was gaining consistency, recruiting shaw and favouring Nathan Wilson
over Hampton in a position he didn't seem to feel comfortable in are what saw him play a lot in the neafl this season.Playing on a wing/Half forward,
I think that he will make it. Seedsman too for that matter.

I have a feeling that a lot of players at GWS aren't being developed to their full potential and are just coasting on talent. Most of the
players that have left GWS have improved and found consistency almost instantly (Miles, Adams etc.). They have so much raw talent on their
list that I think we'll see a bunch of players fail to reach their full potential.

Just as an aside, Breretons "commentary" makes GWS games impossible for me to watch sometimes.

Gee it's hard when a club is rotating players through a side to a0 keep players happy & b) to see who's worth keeping as list size ever diminished

Add to that the fact you're getting your arse kicked each week ......tough to develop

Oh that's the other thing ....watching Bruce play at FB for GWS because of Cameron and Co .....he fails at FB gets traded to St Kilda who put him back to where he played b4 getting drafted and he clicks .......WOW who would have ever guessed

He's quickish with a mean sidestep ........fitness seems to be a common thread with some of our trades

Most sessions are closed. The club said they would have an open session before Christmas but have yet to announce when it will be.
Thanks.

Definitely something Port do better than us. Just looked on their website and they have open training sessions advertised for members on the 4th and the 12th of Dec and they mention they try and have a least 1 open session a week for fans.

We never have anything on the AFC website even if we do have an open session. Poor form i reckon.

Well Collingwood were chasing Hampton hard .....and you're right, a lot of ex GWS players have gone on and improved dramatically

Not entirely GWS's fault there though. They have a stack of elite talent and their forward stocks are all better than Bruce (potentially). As for Hampton, he just needs to focus on getting the ball 15 times a game because he will damage the opposition with that. He looks a natural winger though.

My guess is that the strategic sessions are the ones they want locked down, and I'd imagine that most will be strategic due to the short offseason Pyke has to get his gameplan into the players.

Getting back to your previous suggestion WW, another highlights clip of Hampton would be awesome if you could put it together.

They've come to the right environment to gain fitness. There is a great culture at our club based on hard work. All our recent captains, previous and current, have had elite fitness and a willingness to set high training standards.

I don't think we've ever traded in a player who hasn't commented on our impressive fitness levels and high work ethic. The Craigy days probably developed that culture and Walsh reinforced it.

Even Seedsman said the other day on 5aa how there's a lot of good runners at AFC.

Yep Knight has a lot of terrific qualities. Ability to hear footsteps under a high ball rivals Hendo though. Needs to sort that out and he can be a very good player.
Not from what I have seen!

Interesting that Pyke says he wants to leave Brodie Smith across half back. Now that we got Seeds and Hampton, we've probably got a few more options, so it might be best to leave Smithers in the position he was an All-Australian in.

Smith looked a much better player off half back. I wouldn't blame Pyke for going with what works.

Chisel? Is that Lever's nickname?

Ok, about time we have a nicknames thread, I think.

Wigg's apparently. I like it much better than toupee. Chisel of a kick.

From Brodie Smith's Q&A
Maureen Chambers: Just loving watching you play. Which young player at the club now do you think will be a star like you for the club?
Brodie Smith: We have some great young players coming through. Harrison 'chisel' Wigg will be a star.
