At our 2nd pick who would you pick and realistically from who would be there instead of mathieson.

Also presuming we already have hibberd

Apparently we want to go tall with our early picks if our preferred options are there, I would suggest one at least will be used on a tall, I'm going to assume that will be Collins (if there) and then I would prefer someone such as Hibberd or Balic, hard to know exactly who will be there.

Id be surprised if we went for Mathison.

IT will surprise me that we would tell people we want to go tall, and then Bucky says we will take Collins, and then actually pick tall players. ;)

I will state for all categorically that I have no ******* idea who we are going to choose:p
Neither do I. And for that matter, neither does anyone else making predictions on this board.

really hoping Mathieson continues to slide in estimates and we get him at 15.
Wondering why the slide? He was number one in clearances and contested possessions.
Maybe he interviewed badly?
Maybe we hid his draft highlight tapes from the competition?

Only saying this based on what I have seen but his hand balling skills don't look great for a guy who wins a lot of contested ball. Some have said his kicking isn't great but I haven't seen enough to comment. Looked fine based on what I have seen.

I have been giving the situation some consideration, and instead of trying to call the names, I feel it would be more intriguing to try and figure out what's on Wrighty's check list.

For a start we usually select players with excellent foot skills.
Second, we seem to rate speed and endurance highly.
We also consider the quality of the person, so interviews are important.
Need is also a major factor. ( You could never forget Clarko's demands in 2004. "Get the best two talls" - Enter Rough and that bloke who left.

If we were looking for a Lake replacement, we would be looking for a player who reads the play well, can hold his ground, judges the flight of the ball to perfection, has exceptional closing speed, and can probably help out with a few bargains. So, if there is a fit, and he is available when our first pick comes up, then he is my selection. However, if a Lake replacement isn't our first priority, the erase the above and start again.

This kid hasn't had much of a mention around here out side our first round picks as a Tall strong marking versatile KPD that can go forward and kick goals, and with huge upside:

Luke Surman (7/12/1997. 196cm, 97kg. Norwood)

AFL biography: Strong marking tall defender who can go forward or assist in the ruck. Highly competitive player who holds his position well in the contest. Poised with ball in the hands and has good vision. Held down key defensive position with South Australia in AFL Under-18s this year.

"He's come out of a junior basketball program. He's played a lot of representative basketball and has really only taken footy seriously this year. Speaking to his parents, I think he and they thought he was going to have a bit of a sports-free year and just play a bit of school footy, but he's jumped up quickly, we were crying out for key defenders in our side and he fitted that bill nicely. I think he has a huge amount of upside, he doesn't play with any intensity at the moment but once he learns how to do that and starts to do it he's going to be a big, imposing figure."

Brenton Phillips, SA talent manager

Slow, very slow

He was good at the combine, under pressure though... not that brilliant under pressure. Versatilily is another thing I don't like that he lacks.

I expect us to pick a player who is "a bit of a reach" and unfortunately we won't win the annual draft day "which team won the draft" competition. :(

Is it possible that Hopper and Kennedy from the GWS academy are bid on so early that GWS won't have enough later picks to match a bid for Himmelberg? Wouldn't mind the Hawks bidding on him with our 2nd pick.
