Looks awful. How do Lower people feel about the game being played there?
Fair to say we're not happy. We took the consequences years ago and had a year off our ground to get it sorted. Depending on who you believe.......either Mont had a choice of a new social facility or ground upgrade and chose new rooms, or council wanted upgrade of ground which cricket club were happy with but footy club refused. Now our ground will cop it. Heidelberg will use our change rooms and Mont will do what they always so when they play at Lower and use their own.

Mont v Heid at Lower Plenty? Perhaps time for the council to bite the bullet and kick them off for season and get it right.

I agree, most Clubs that have needed to do it have done it. Cannot consider yourself rebuilding and preparing for the future when you are willing to play and train in slop.

Fair enough. The ground is in dire need of fixing, drove past it today and it was awful (before most of the rain too). So Lower have no say that Mont will play there?

If you were to cancel a game between heidelberg and Montmorency -
1. Would anyone care?
2. Would the Monty players still not get paid :D
3. Would it affect the new local footy salary cap points thing.

Personally I think the league should have played the game at Heidelberg as penalty for Monts unwillingness over the years to be proactive in getting a permanent fix.

Please brutal that would be called thinking. It's a long time since that occurred in the nfl.Good to see you back phoenix , are you on leave from glenroy? lets hope the bergs can extract the digit.about time some who have enjoyed the good times get down to help the side now.Cya there.

we have no say at all. Council has thrown good money after bad patching that ground up.

Banyule council?
They've had no issues throwing us (Ivanhoe FC) off our ground twice in 17 years for full seasons for upgrades. Never during cricket season though...that might upset the councillors who are affilliated with the cricket club afterall.
We had no say in it and groundshared with Heidelberg West in 2005 , and Bellfield and North Heid prior to that in the 90's.
Im surprised they don't order Mont off if it's reached this point.

Very disappointing that its got to this point.

Mont have to bite the bullet and get it redone, or better yet, get a new facility all together.

Multiple other clubs have had a year away from their venue including Eltham and Diamond creek in recent times, and are now benefiting from that decision.

Hey mate, yeah I thought with ground conditions the council have the say when it should be done, usually when they have the money in the budget and prioritise list. If I'm correct clubs might get asked how they wish to use other funds. Example: upgrade social rooms or a new scoreboard.. But the ground is also for public use and governments are encouraging kids to be active so it's the councils responsibility.

What happens is the councils send a tractor with a roller on the back of it to roll the ground and if the driver cant do the job he lets the council know about it and they shut the ground down

Not the best of weeks at the Bear Cave. Club supporter of many years, Fred Hodges passed away suddenly last Tuesday and son Mick passed away yesterday morning after a battle with illness. I've said this elsewhere, but Micks contribution has been pivotal in where the club now sits. He was instrumental in the formation of the clubs U/19's back in 1996 with Research Juniors and had the remakable achievement of not only winning a premiership in their first season but participating in 4 consecutive Grand Finals for 3 victories. Those early years cemented what is now a crucial element of our clubs structure. Every Research U/17 now has a pathway forward due to the passion and commitment of Mick Hodges and those who were part of those early teams. He will be greatly missed but his legacy will live on and gain strength.

;)Following on from above, I attended a great function at Macleod yesterday for a DVFL legends lunch featuring Marty a Kemp, John Bourke, Steve Easton, Joe Amad and hosted by Mick Sullivan. It was a great and thoroughly entertaining luncheon with plenty of banter and hilarious stories of days gone by. Great concept and a real alternative to forking out huge amounts of coin to x AFL players. Steve was also a good mate of Hodgeys and spoke of his passing prior to and following the lunch. P.S. When I left the Macleod rooms at 9.30, Marty Kemp was in great form dancing up a storm with a "Marty Baccardi" in hand;)

So aside from blaming Mont, when will the council formally say enough is enough? Has to be a risk with the mud potentially getting toxic and people having their dogs running around on it of a weekend & playing in it.

Back to footy...

Mont beating Heidelberg has put them above West on the ladder. If they can roll Northcote &/or West then I'd think they have had an ok year, considering the player turn around and new coach. 2-3 losses under a goal too.

A few people assumed a potential place in Div 2 earlier in the season...

Concerns for the Roosters?

Seniors sitting 3rd, reserves sitting 2nd, winning 5 on the trot and the tigers doubtful to make finals. Lifes not so bad down at panther place.

From almost relegation last year it is a great achievement. With several players to return next couple of weeks, and if we can cement a finals spot I think Eltham can really make a statement. It's going to be a real battle for 3rd 4th and 5th spot with whoever misses out very very unlucky

Anyone at De Winton yesterday? Just curious how the ground is. 25 goals in 3 games says to me the ground was a heavy 10?
