So aside from blaming Mont, when will the council formally say enough is enough? Has to be a risk with the mud potentially getting toxic and people having their dogs running around on it of a weekend & playing in it.

Back to footy...

Mont beating Heidelberg has put them above West on the ladder. If they can roll Northcote &/or West then I'd think they have had an ok year, considering the player turn around and new coach. 2-3 losses under a goal too.

A few people assumed a potential place in Div 2 earlier in the season...

Concerns for the Roosters?

On the right track for sure. A couple of close losses to Lower, draw with Macleod, beat Eltham @ Eltham. Not too bad, potentially winning those two games under a kick and maybe beating North Heidelberg twice, they could have potentially snuck in for 5th place. Got touched up by Greensborough twice, but definitely on the right path. Younger guys get another pre-season under their belts should bode well for the future.

De Winton is water logged. Probably wont train on it for the next 2 weeks and fingers crossed we get no rain, it should be fine for the last game.

Anyone at De Winton yesterday? Just curious how the ground is. 25 goals in 3 games says to me the ground was a heavy 10?

Worse than Monts ground. Tax payers money well spent again.
How does the decision to move Mont/Bergs game, who had only one team of the six fighting for a finals spot get the green light to play on a better ground, yet five of the six teams of the Roos/Bears were fighting for spots in finals and the other fighting for percentage for top spot get stuck on a swamp?? Grounds are in the same council? Yes?
Is there communication between council and league on this?

Mont's ground is waterlogged as well. The surface doesn't actually look too muddy, but take a couple of steps onto the field and you're standing under an inch of water.

As for the footy side of things, they're definitely heading in the right direction, virtually debuting a new player each week. Whether they progress over the next couple of years only time will tell. Considering the conditions, last Saturday was the best half Mont has played this year.

What has happened to Heidelberg?

Injuries, key players out of form. There's probably a few more reasons but I won't go into them. 11 years at the top and five flags...it had to end eventually. Last year was only supposed to be a rebuilding phase, the team over achieved and won half their games by less than 10 points. Could have quite easily missed the finals had the results not gone their way.

Whats the few more reasons that you wont go into?? Just doesn't make sense...

You sort of raise a great point. Why wasn't the Macleod v Lower game moved to Lower and Mont v Heid moved to Heid. Actually makes so much sense its amazing. I am sure players and supporters would rather play on grounds that allow better games and allow facilities to be opened to actually enjoy the day. If Clubs cannot agree on a % of canteen and bar taking to be handed over then thats a joke as well.

Sort of reeks of amateur council and NFL in making decisions like this.

Montmorency at home again this week, will that be at Lower again?
You would hope so although the idea of canteen at Mont is ridiculous....I ventured there Saturday and when ordering a coffee was told if I wanted food to go down to Mont. After doing that I then returned to stand in the kids playground and watch the footy only to have chips that weren't cooked and were still frozen. I could have taken them back but seriously walking back down to Mont is a joke....It is below standard and especially the prices they are charging . They had run out of Dim Sims by start of the seniors...Please if it was a Grand Final I could understand..

Thats shithouse form

Maybe the solution is to start the season in March, have a 2 week bye end of July/start of August and order all training and games off the grounds to recover from the wet season. No club is going to give up their canteen.

In respect to De Winton, it really shouldn't chop up the way is has. There is still a slant on the ground and it sucks the water down towards Cape Street and sits on the flanks when it rains. Personally think the council could have done a much better job when they redeveloped the surface

I think cricket might have something to say against that.

No club giving up canteen is understandable but some sort of human decency has to come about when a percentage of takings can be handed over. Its not going to cover costs but has to be better than what has happened.

BTW, where does Macleod train if not at De Winton?

I agree but you cannot blame Lower, they had no time to organise I would suspect and getting volunteers that want to be at their away game would be hard.

These decisions seem so easy, play it at the away teams ground.

Not having a go at Lower at all, i think its a massive show of good will to let the game go ahead at their ground in the first place.

The onus should have been on Mont to ensure that everything was in place for a seamless transition from one ground to another, not making spectators walk 3 or 4 hundred metres to get some dimmies would probably be where you would start

Same, not having a go at Lower at all..I was surprised to see Lower shared their rooms to the Tigers. Imagine if the game was at Mont and cancelled from Lower...You think that would have happened allowing teams to use home rooms...I think not...

You would find that Lower would have no choice in the matter. This, allowing the game to be shifted would have been a council decision

For the record. When we host Mont, they choose to use their change rooms at Mont. When we play at their ground, we use their away rooms. It's not our responsibility to provide a facility for them. Heidelberg used our change rooms and in the past, Bundoora used them when Monts ground was closed back in round 18, 2012. As for food facilities, Mont could have brought there BBQ up as they did in 2012. The only time we were in a similar situations and had to play a game at Mont, they refused to open the rooms for change room or toilet facilities.
