Not entirely sure how valuable that's going to be in the long term.

Wouldn't say totally wasted as we have had 2 debutants and got valuable experience into other developing players like Bews, GHS etc, but I definitely agree that there could have been more had we not been in the position we are in. The club has done a great job in getting the balance right with developing youth and staying in contention. At least we know there are plenty of guys pushing there case, I think next year we will see plenty of guys like Lang, Hartman, Jansen, Thurlow etc.

Make that 3 debuts- Hartman, Lang, Kersten- tick, tick, tick. Plus a few games into Bews, GHS, Burbs, as has been mentioned- plus McCarthy and Simpson- tick, tried out Blics in defence- tick.
Worked on a forward press style of game- tick

A lot has been achieved this season

And there's still a lot to work on- future ruckman
Forward setup
Replacement defence
....etc etc.

I think the consensus is we want him. It's just that we wouldn't be prepared to trade the type of player that would needed to get the job done. Unless you guys decide to go full rebuild and we can do a trade with our first rounder or something.

Curently pick 16, more like 17/18 after Melbourne get something for Frawley and whatever else upsets this years draft order. Considering that's what we paid for Wellingham (still don't know why we did that) I'd be miffed to trade Selwood for the same.

Would you guys be so kind as to finish around mid table? That would swell.

Motlop for Tom boyd + 2nd round pick
1st round + 2nd round (GWS) for Menz

Not trying to get rid of him. Love him. I dont think we will ever get a high pick to get a key forward like Tom Boyd. Also with how valuable Hawkins is to the team it wont be bad to start developing another key forward with all the new youth.

Just throwing it out there. Food for thought. Im not saying get rid of him.

Yeah Motlop is a deadset AA star but Boyd could be an AA key forward. Boyd and Shiel are not unproven, but I agree the Melbourne one would be the unproven risky one.

And why are we targeting a power forward when we have the best power forward in the competition. I think if anything we need a more mobile key forward but we've got options in Kersten and Vardy so it's not urgent.

Boyd could be AA, but he's not; and he most definitely is unproven , having only played 4 mediocre games, full stop.
Shiel shows promise, but he's no Motlop, and has shown no sign that he's ever going to be.
And if there's one player who has no conceivable replacement for function anywhere whatever on our list, it's Motlop.

Anyway, without meaning or trying to be rude, I'm not going to talk about these proposals any more because in my opinion they are (literally) simply too silly for words.

I can understand why GWS would want Motlop, they could really use some outside run. I just can't understand why we would want Boyd. And I'm not making a judgement on Boyd's value, it's more that he's not the type of player we need.

Of course I'd take him. He's a no.1 draft pick and done nothing to suggest he's worth anything less than that. But you don't trade for players that don't fill a need, and you don't give up players that offer something unique that your side needs.

I am not sure that I would take that trade, even though Motop has been a constant disappointment especially his facial hair. It the fairest trade that you suggested but I doubt Geelong would take it, St Kilda would do one like it if they could, but I doubt that GWS would want to trade away there point of difference for a player like Motop.

The AFL simply figure that Melb need ALL the help they can get. This would just be another leg up for them and a boot up the butt for us

We got so ****ed in the Ablett saga. My favourite part was when the Dees got picks 4 and 13 for Scully, a guy who will be lucky to be offered another contract.

The trade off is that the team has to pay what can be at times a ridiculous wage, is Thomas worth a 4 year 700k contract, this wage could cost them in four years time when they don't have enough money to keep everyone they want to keep.

Sorry I don't see how that is a trade off for the Pies? It's win win win.
