2015 Ladder predictions

I think it's time to leave Gillo alone.

He has expressed his thoughts on the Carlton list several times & whether you agree or not he is entitled to his opinion.

This is a ladder prediction thread. I'm tired of reading how great Menzel, Cripps, Graham & whoever else are going to be.

You're no fun.

IMO the top 3 is easy (Hawthorn, Sydney & Port Adelaide) (not necessarily in that order)

The next three is easy (Fremantle, Geelong, North Melbourne) (not necessarily in that order)

The bottom four is easy (GWS, St Kilda, Melbourne & Western Bulldogs) (not necessarily in that order)

In between is all but impossible but as a guess:

Sydney
Port
Hawthorn
North Melbourne
Fremantle
Geelong
Essendon*
Richmond

Adelaide
Gold Coast
West Coast
Brisbane
Collingwood
Carlton
GWS
Western Bulldogs
Melbourne
St Kilda

Of course I'm as likely to be wrong as I am right, but Geelong are far and away the WEAKEST side of that top 6 and I'll be genuinely surprised if they even make the eight.

I respectfully disagree. Mitch Clark is a huge key though. If he can perform the second key forward who rotates into the ruck roll well, it will go a long way to keeping them competing with the top teams this year at least.

All this easy, but writing 18 names isn't so easy...

Brisbane???

Yeah it is pretty easy to predict last years ladder once the season is over. Any thoughts on how this years ladder will end up?

Good Carlton Kids/guys with 6-7 seasons left:

Sheehan
White
Docherty
Rowe
Cripps
Bell
Graham
Yarran
Menzel
Casboult
Henderson

Guys like Thomas, Everitt, Jamison, Murphy, Gibbs, Kreuzer have plenty of footy left.

Who knows with recruits like Smith,
Dion-Rainbow, Jansck, Whiley, Boekhurst?

Way above bottom shockers like Saints, Dees, Dogs IMO.
Those bottom 3 have massive scope for improvement still to be miles ahead of Carlton in the not too distant future. Carlton's only true bona fide kid with elite potential is Menzel, all the rest are either unknowns or won't have elite capabilities, Docherty knows how to find it and has some pace and Bell has a dip.

Henderson, Casboult, Yarran, Jones have been around long enough and should be in the next bracket of players. Henderson is a clear standout there, Yarran is way too inconsistent imo. Murphy, Kreuzer and Thomas have been thwarted by injuries as well, who knows if they can improve.

White was nearly delisted wasn't he? Same with Watson.

Malthouse getting in all these 20-22 year olds via trade clearly suggests the drafting under Ratten wasn't good enough (Kane Lucas etc) and that they are trying to rebuild quickly instead of diligently. They will never challenge during Gibbs and Murphy's time at the club unless they draft right in the next year or two.

From a club that is paying a 19 year old bloke 6 million over 7 years who has played just 9 senior games, I wouldn't be talking about the financial futures of other clubs.
We made 330k this year I think, just like your club last year we are able to stockpile salary cap money this year due to exiting players and pay 105% next year etc Boyd and Bontempelli.

I don't look on this thread for a couple of days and I miss gold like this!:
I don't know man, from what Gillo tells me, Graham, Menzel, Buckley, Cripps, Holman, Boekhorst, DVR, Smith are all highly rated.

I'm pretty sure they're all more highly rated than unknowns like Libba, Bontempelli, Stringer, Macrae, Boyd, Wallis.

DVR, Smith, Holman, Graham have shown much more than Libba, Macrae and Bontempelli.

Can't believe some people aren't seeing what Gillo is talking about, I mean compare the names of those 2 clubs, Carlton have about 5 future stars in that list, all proven too (Gillo tells me), whereas Bulldogs just have so many unproven players within their youth and just nowhere near the talent of Carltons.

Lol

Clearly shows that the Dogs aren't on free TV enough

What's a pass mark for Dogs this year? 14th?

Boyd, has he earn't a $7mill/7year deal? What has he done? just b/c he is 200cm and picked 1? I've seen 3 of his games this year and in all 3 of them he played very average

MacRea only rated because had a 40+ possession game and since then done jack! Slacker running back

Till these superstars have won few Brownlows, Coleman medals lets not get all excited

I'm a Blues fan, have to have faith in who our recruiters draft and the coaching staff. Graham I have faith, one step at a time with him and Menzel if ppl are knocking him should watch more of his games, this kid can play. Buckley already word around the club is a future leader and the kid has pace

Every team thinks their youngsters have promise, if they didn't would they be drafted in the 1st place?

I bet you think few Dockers rookies and 2nd year players have promise
Not as much as the bulldogs. Stringer, McRae, Bonty, Boyd. All 2nd or 3rd year players. Add that to Libba, Wallis, Dahlhaus, Hrovat and Hunter and that is a scary amount of young talent.

1. Macrae was 2nd in our best and fairest this year (behind Libba). Not a bad effort for a kid who only played one good game.

2. You've described him as a "slacker running back" yet he's never played in the back six as far as I have seen.

Keep posting Gillo, it's a laugh for the rest of us mate.

You have a lot to learn about footy still gillo.

Boyd is a long term investment and he is perhaps the highest rated young KPF that has been drafted since Hawkins (back in 06). If you don't pay up you don't get these types of players.

Macrae was a standout for us all season, as a 2nd year player it is understandable to be tired after a long season and his last month he was down a little, he also is getting tagged already which shows how highly opposition teams/coaching staff rate him, got 10 Brownlow votes also.

Great players don't necessarily win Brownlows or Colemans see Wayne Carey, Leigh Matthews, Ted Whitten, Luke Hodge, Ron Barassi etc.

No one has knocked Menzel, everyone here seems to be in unison that he is Carlton's best young prospect. It's the fact that a lot of their 21-24 yos have not come on and many have been delisted since Malthouse came in and have replaced them with players of a similar age hoping they can be better. Too much is expected of Judd, Murphy, Gibbs, Henderson, Jamison, Simpson, Walker, Thomas etc to deliver and none of the younger brigade have truly stepped up yet.

I'd also would rather be in Melbourne's shoes with Salem, Viney, Petracca, Brayshaw, Hogan, Tyson etc to look forward to or St Kilda with Billings, Dunstan, Newnes, McCartin, Goddard, Acres and more gun midfielders put in there in the next 2-3 drafts, than be in Carlton's current situation.

I'm sorry, but Bontempelli, Hunter, Stringer, Macrae, Hrovat, Libba, Wallis, Smith and Boyd comfortably beat the Carlton youngsters.
