The Whately thing was most amusing, but of perhaps greater significance was Hogan's performance from a Freo perspective:
  • I miss Scarborough beach;
  • Melbourne as a club are cool because they let me go to Torquay or home for a few days whenever I feel homesick (to be fair he got there when barely 17);
  • I'm not prepared to talk about recommitting to Melbourne at the end of 2017 (in the face of a direct question about staying at the Demons long term);
  • I don't have a girlfriend so only had family and club officials at my table at today's RS function (same holds for the Brownlow function);
  • We don't have overt conversations among the younger players at Melbourne about committing to one another to create a long term dynasty (when it was suggested that the Bulldogs youngsters are doing that);
  • I want to create my own brand;
  • I'm a Perth boy and like it laid back;

I'm no doubt reading more into the comments than the reality, but the "gut feel" and underlying tone was encouraging.

2 years is a long time ahead for an 18 year old. Otherwise that's surprisingly vague overall.

Gerard Whately can eat a bag of festering dicks as far as I'm concerned. It is very easy for these media "experts" to cast baseless aspersions on people, but they need to understand that there are repercussions.

Ross can't whack Whately for what he said, but he can sure as hell make his feelings clear. A boycott is a legitimate response.

A boycott might be legitimate.....but at what point does it become ridiculous. The offending comments were made over 4 years ago, at some point you've got to move on otherwise you risk seeming like a petulant teenager.

As soon as Whately came out and publicly apologised for being a sanctimonious twat I'd be prepared to let it go. ;)

He doesn't need to do anything public. He just needs to apologize to Ross. He clearly hasn't done that, which is odd seeing as he has acknowledged twice now that it is his fault that there appears to be bad blood between the two.

Reminds me of Alex Ferguson. He boycotted all BBC programs for 7 years after they did a show he didn't like.

They were pretty strong words that Whately used. Really unprofessional. Unfortunately for him he burned a bridge and is made to look silly for it every time he has something to with us. He basically called Ross a campaigner in public. You don't come back from that.

Whately was at it again on the abc attacking Lyon after the finals win today. absolute flog of the highest order. In Basil's class

I listened to part of the ABC radio call this afternoon. Someone in the box during the last quarter was literally applauding Sydney marks or Sydney goals. Don't know who it was, the experts were David Parkin and Jimmy Clement, could have been one of them I guess. But seriously, I heard hand-clapping, only on good plays to Sydney.

It'd be Clement. Has a bit of shit on his lip from the Drum days

Clement, Parkin and Whateley were disgraceful in the post game show. kept banging on about how bad freo was and not looking at any positive whatsoever. so negative and says alot about their lack of professionalism

That's strange from Parko since he is usually good to us on Fox Footy.

They said the same sort of thing during their half-time analysis.
