Interesting.

Anyone looking at Mckenzie?

Been battling a hamstring injury hasn't he? Pretty sure he's back to full training now.

Once again, more will become clearer through the NAB preseason games

Well his last game for 2014 was the Grand Final and that was pretty sublime from a Hawthorn perspective. He had one good game against a North side that shat itself on Prelim final day.

I agree completely here. His back end form from 2014 is overrated. Played maybe 4-6 good quarters, a few flashy runs but nothing to get excited about from a SC perspective. Burnt me last year, fool me once..

Anyone else thinking about Rampe? Seems to have all the right attributes to be heading towards a breakout.

2 games from the 50 game milestone.
Played 22 and 25 games in the last two seasons.
Mal leaving opens up some scoring potential.
Then to top it off recently there's been talks of midfield time.
In a top 4 side.
Had patches last year that show he can score well.

I'm not considering Rampe or Docherty as I feel Newnes is a better pick for a bit more money, they could be good PODs though

Thoughts on Docherty?
Get on him, reminds my very much of Brodie Smith coming into last season, except I didn't have the balls to back Smith.

With the lack of good defenders I'd take an 85ish average from Doc.

I'd take Docherty before Newnes, I'd take Sam Fisher before Newnes also. He's a forgotten man this year is the fish.

has potential to go up by 100k but question remains if he can sustain it

One to watch in the NAB. His performances in there will likely determine whether he plays round 1. A potential rising star winner IMO.
Who's spot does Laverde take in Essendon's best 22?
Seems like Essendon really like their guys, Hird has his favourites too. Cooney a new addition.
He would need to force out the likes of Colyer, Melksham, the Merrets, Hocking, Howlett

You would really want to see him step into Malceski's role, otherwise its hard to see him improve enough to warrant the price tag. Will be interesting to watch Syndey in the NAB cup, because there seem to be a few vying for that role. I'm hoping Jones gets a crack, would help with the lack of DEF rookies.

I'm that case I might be on the cannon instead, is he a def?

Price tag makes him awkward, dubious about how much time he will get there given all the young mids they already have.

Makes Harbrow a little more tempting though.

I think the reaction of this board will be similar to mine, but a mate who is a stats man and always does well at SC has earmarked Gary Rohan this year depending on NAB Cup. The inside word, according to him, is that Rohan will take over from Malceski as Sydney's running half-back.

Take all that info with a grain of salt, not someone I'd normally even consider, but worth keeping an eye on his role in the NAB Cup.

Rohan doesn't have the kicking skillset to play Malceski's role IMHO.

All his got going for him is, that his fast.

Hopefully Melksham. But yeah, that's the reason Laverde may not debut in round 1.

From memory Melksham wasn't even getting a game later in the year anyhow. Colyer may have overtaken him.
I think for the sake of SC, we are all hoping Laverde plays

I agree with you, but does Rampe? People seem to be volunteering him to take over from the bearded one also.
Sounds like they may do it by committee.
A little bit of Jetta in the backline,
a little bit of McVeigh, his skills are sublime,
a little bit of Rohan, in the side,
a little bit of Jones, maybe he'll play,
a little bit Rampe, he might be........a good player

Lou Bega would be proud

Rohan is a tempting prospect at his current price if he's the man to take over Malceski's role.

Despite his spudtastic history he's certainly one to keep an eye on during NAB. Although I'm wary that his defensive deficiencies may mean he is used across half back sparingly.
