Finish with pick #4
Selwood to Geelong on $750K a year gets us pick #5
Trade pick#5 to GWS for Coniglio
Profit.

^That would be a pretty bloody good off season..

However... we all know it's going to end like this.

4 wins at the back end of the season against shit teams that put the que in the rack giving us pick #10
Selwood to Geelong on 400K a year giving us end of second rounder #29 (ish)
Coniglio re-signs with GWS
We take a tall with our first rounder

His kicking isnt way overrated, I don't agree. His skills are better than the majority of people in the team. He played 17 games last year. If we are looking to clean house then we are going to need to keep senior players of worth. He's also only 27. I don't think he's a list clogger/dodgy trade like Merenda or Taylor. The other thing Ellis brings is a knowledge of Hawthorn's culture and game plan. He probably provides a lot to Simpson amongst the playing group.
Beau Waters was only 28.

I don't think he's a bad player, but keeping him for his 'knowledge of Hawthorn's culture and game plan' is pretty tenuous. I'm not against having him as a rookie, but is he really part of our next push for a flag?

Note I would rather we delist about 10 others - he's not alone.

$400k a year is generous for Selwood.

I share your inclination to clean house. To be honest I wouldnt mind breaking the influence of some of the older, experienced mids that have gotten stale at WC. But I don't think the 'juice is worth the squeeze' to delist Ellis. He performs when he's on the park. He may not be a premiership player - but we need the depth and experience. If Powell and Brophy come on at the end of the year and he's still injured, then I may end up agreeing with you.

Yeah I guess i'm assuming he'll be injured for most of the season. Wait and see I guess.

ATM, Main and Karps are the most likely delistees, but a significant improvement in the WAFL could save them.
McInnes and Colledge may need to string a few games together in the AFL or have one breakout game (like Tunners 2 goals vs Crows in 2013).
McInnes being seen as a backup ruck option may extend his time on the list, even if he fails as a KPP.
Tunners might be safe, his decent game against Carlton and his current injury may grant him some clemency.
Hill could be delisted as he is in and out of the team, but Ginners and Butler are seemingly unlikely, as Simmo considers them first 22 players. People want them to be delisted every year, but they never are...

"The average AFL salary in 2012 was$251,559, up from $237,388 in 2011."

Not really.
Mean or median?

He's an average player who is coming off injury affected seasons, and presumably he will want to go home to Victoria (otherwise we wouldn't be discussing him leaving).

Players generally don't get pay reductions to move cross country unless there struggling to get a game.
Fair enough. What's he getting currently? His value will have dropped considerably since he won our B&F in 2012.

If we can

- Keeping our first round pick - Pick 4-8
- Get a first round/end of first round pick for Scott Selwood
- Somehow get Coniglio without giving up our first round picks

It will give Simpson something to work with rebuilding our midfield

Taken from the Contracts thread:

Beau Waters – Signed a 2-year contract (2014, 2015) in May 2013.

Sam Butler – Signed a 1-year contract (2015) in September 2014.

Unknown Contracts (8):
Jamie Cripps -
Simon Tunbridge -
Dominic Sheed - Probably signed for 2 years (2014, 2015) when drafted (No source)

Dylan Main - Probably signed for 2 years (2014, 2015) when drafted (No source)
Tom Barrass - Probably signed for 2 years (2014, 2015) when drafted (No source)
Patrick McGinnity - Signed a contract in August 2014

Selwood: encourage FA
Wellingham: delist

Hill: keep
Butler: delist
Cripps: keep
Tunbridge: keep
Sheed: keep
Karpany: delist
Main: delist
Barrass: keep

That's 8 gone. Be interesting to see what ends up happening.
Delist Wellingham? I rate him high enough to stay on our list. Seems to have set up a few goals this year working in tight places. I'm new so what's the general feeling on Wellingham?

Pretty much our dream trade/draft period.

mostly very negative opinions about him here. Maybe has a little less heat this year but it's probably more due people being more focused on our many other issues than him actually having showed improvement.

I think I see some improvement in his attitude. Too bad its when everything else is falling apart and probably wont be recognised

Tunbridge will be 23 at the beginning of next season. I can't see him getting another contract extension tbh.

Colledge has another year to go on his contract, he won't be delisted this year.

Seems odd that he was good enough to play in a winning grand final on the wing but struggles to break into our mid. I know our players aren't world beaters but I still have doubts our coaching group are extracting all they can from them
