I actually don't really want Mitchell, I think he is a bit more of the same. Not worth paying overs for.

Ffs let's get a like breaker or some speed on the outside.

We should go for a contracted player like Harley Bennell.

Offer him a big contract and see what happens.

Contracts dont stop players moving these days.

There is feeling he is not too happy with the new set up at GC

He broke news of Gary Ablett resigning the night before on his Instagram page with a picture of both of them. Sounds to me like he is pretty happy where he is.

To be honest, he is better away from WA and the bad influences of certain people. Not sure if he would be as committed back home.

Pick 5?

If that's not enough perhaps upgrade their second pick in addition.

If he wants to go home (so we have that leverage) pick 5 is way too high for bennell. I'd want a lowish second rounder in addition to bennell for that. But honestly I dunno about him specifically, he seems more like an excellent compliment to a top-line midfield than a player who's gonna drag a midfield up to being top-line, just not contested enough. O'Meara is that player, him I'd pay pick 5 and a second-round upgrade (or maybe the second rounder itself) for.

Yeah. At least.

He's a high draft pick who has essentially lived up to that billing and is still contracted. So he ain't coming cheap.

Perhaps our first two picks and Bennell and their third?

So 5 and 25 for Bennell and ~47.

Then we can trade 47 and our third (close to 45 aswell) for a pick in the late 30s to stay somewhat draft relevant. Or do you think we could grab their 29 back instead of 47.

I'd say that's about right.

The question is whether we want to do that kind of deal. Betting the farm on one guy.

Part of the risk assessment will be seeing what sort of talent is available in the top 30 of this years draft. At this stage it's really too hard to tell unless you're employed to look into that sort of thing.

That being said, in my proposed strategy we still end up with Bennell, pick ~38 and probably Jordan Matera late in the draft. After taking 5 picks last year (who all look promising) we are probably in the position where we should back in the kids we have taken in the last 2 years and take the risk on a 23 year old.

There were a few prospects available in the draft. If only we had an extra pick or two, so we still could've still have picked Duggan and Lamb.

It seems Crozier and Sheridan are half a chance to walk out on Fremantle due to lack of opportunity at the end of the year.

I'm a fan of both actually and would be keen to offer a second rounder for either.

I'd argue pick 5 is too low for Bennell and not too high.

I would definitely trade LeCras for a pick in the high 10's to low 20's... but what teams do you think would offer that for a medium forward with perhaps 3 years left on the outside? It'd have to be someone who's challenging now - Freo is the only team who I think would have a significant need met with LeCras. Am I missing any others?

Do you have enough faith in WC's recruiting staff to trade a known high quality in LeCras for a stab at the draft in the picks that you've indicated ? I reckon even the best in the business would baulk at being confident at those numbers.

This is a pointless line of thinking anyway, Kennedy and Lecras aren't going to be traded. I can't really think of a trade where we've sent a player out who hasn't requested to go, especially West Australians. I could see us maybe talking some of the Victorians into leaving, but would we get any value in return? We could maybe get a second round pick for someone like Sinclair. That leaves guys like Shuey, Selwood and Gaff. Selwood might leave on his own (on a huge contract hopefully) but is trading Shuey and Gaff worth it? I reckon it's just shuffling the deck chairs on the titanic because you're unlikely to get anything back for them that's going to significantly improve the team.

What about having a stab at suckling? We've surely got the cap space to throw the money at him and the combination of him and Hurn off half-back would be incredible. Not to mention it'd free up Yeo to go into the midfield full time.

We might have a chance as well getting him out of Melbourne. Originally a country NSW boy so can't have roots too deep and he'd know Simpson pretty well.

Having that one genuine midfield star IMO would be the difference between us and finals. Heppell, Wingard, Bont, J.Selwood, Fyfe etc.. all have a huge impact on there clubs and make the other good midfielder's there better. Talking about being a genuine top 4 contender we would still need the likes of Duggan, Waterman, Sheed, Brophy, Adamson, Colledge etc.. to really step up soon.

I'd rather keep a pick in the first round and target uncontracted players.

Fan of Crozier but reckon he'd be more likely to want to go home to Melbourne. Sheridan seems a bit small framed for what we need.

Edit - I realise Crozier is even smaller, but he's more athletic and has more utility as a forward

Agreed - try get our hands on Pickett at the end of next year (assuming he is on 2 yr contract)

I'm a bit more confident in our recruiting after this offseason - it's been a while since we've been able to debut multiple draftees in the first few games of the season they were drafted before.

My reasoning here is that at 28/29 years of age, I don't think we're going to be a premiership threat before LeCras has started to fade. He probably has 2 great seasons left (2015 included) and perhaps one or two good seasons after that - assuming we aren't really challenging before 2018 I don't think he'll be part of a premiership side. If that is the case it would be worth trading him even for a lesser player so long as that player was still capable of being best 22 in a premiership team, even if they were not best 10-15.

Yeah think he would be a good addition mate beautiful kick and would be gettable with our cap space and simmo link surely his name has to be on the whiteboard
