Agree entirely said it all along just need to be patient with the likes of Ross and Murdoch. Will take time but when they get going, wow!!!!!

I've been excited about Murdoch since we drafted him. He's big, quick and kicks like a mule. Just needs to get his body right and get more of the footy. He could be our 2012 draft saviour....which was a horrible draft and trade year for us.

Disappointing day in Sydney today but recruiting staff were busy back home in Vic watching two of our probable Round 1 Draft targets playing very well again in TAC.
Watching today, I'm still baffled that Dylan Shiel gave up a truckload of money and security to play at that lifeless stadium. It's just eerie.
Roo has a probable minor strain in lower calf. Very disappointing considering the occasion next week, club will do everything to get him up. Hope he gets through.
If Hugh recovers and trains well I'd think he'll be very close to a debut this week.

Hear Treloar hates the Stadium.....

Interesting players that come out of contract in the next 3 off-seasons are listed in the OP. Tall defenders OOC this year

Henry Schade
Matthew Buntine
Michael Talia
Rory Thompson
What would Talia set us back? Seems to have fallen behind a couple at the dogs and of course OOC.

I'd happily throw a big bunch of cash at Hurley however, when's he OOC again? End of 2016? My interest has risen since he got rid of that putrid dreadlock top knot :D

Hurley is FA next year. As long as he isn't rubbed out for a while from WADA I'd throw the cheque book at him. He's one guy at the Bombers that's been very good despite the ASADA / WADA stuff.

geeze theres some absolutely ripe cherries to come off the freo tree in the next couple of years. langdon, weller playing well. crozier maybe, not really sold on him. smith like barrels suggested, again personally not really sold entirely

I got told recently by a bloke that knows the Weller's that Lachie may be heading our way as early as this year however it will depend on what draft picks we have.

i hope we are patient and methodical which i am sure we will be

i wanted langdon in the draft just gone. want him even more now

No, difference over whole contract being offered by Giants to that of a few Melbourne clubs.

Okay, cheers. I read something about the Pies, Roos and Tigers offering 700-750k x 5 years. He's worth it too.

As I mentioned a few pages back, we desperately need a mid(s) that can generate qualities clearances. Treloar is that guy.

There was some dude on saintsational that reckons he knows Treloar or at least someone close to him and he's been saying Treloar is heading back to Vic for the past 18 months and that we are a real show. Personally, I just don't think we are in the conversation tho.

I'm hoping a couple of the recruiting staff were up in Sydney watch the GWS 2s as well. From what I saw on the live stream, Nathan Wilson would do well in RW&B, Matthew Flynn is worthy of a second round pick (potentially ours) and J Kelly will be back in the 1s in a fortnight.

I really hope Hughy gets a debut this week. We'll need just about every defender we have to try and stop Jack, I can't think of a time the two sides have met and he hasn't killed us.

If true and if we win a few more games this year and end up with Pick 6-7, who else would give up that pick for Weller and Pick 17-18? Would get us a silky athletic outside mid who's a year in the system with a WAFL season under his belt, and hopefully a quality slider like Tucker, Balic, Collins, Dunkley, etc.

If we do grab young Weller, as Stavro? (apologies, not exactly sure who posted) suggested, that could be the nail in the coffin for young Wright.

A shame, because he's tough, courageous and bloody quick, but his kicking is worse than average. Already behind Savage, Roberton, Geary, Webster, Newnes, McKenzie.

I imagine over the next couple of off seasons will see us lose Wright and Saunders, on top of Sipposs, Simpkin, White and Saad.

That's what it would take I reckon. Weller being contracted means we would need to appease the Dockers. The thing going for us tho is our pick would get the Dockers a quality KPF they've been craving for. Weideman, Curnow, McKay would be exactly what they would want. What we would need to ascertain is who would be available at pick 17-18? Tucker not out of the question...Ryan Bonner I really like....Dunkley perhaps...? I guess if Freo were keen we way up Parish (best case) vs Weller and Tucker (best case).

What ever midfielders we select please let them have have some speed. Todays game highlighted our complete lack of speed through our midfield. GWS speed and concise ball movement cut us up today!

There's no way we give up our first rounder for Weller, regardless of what's coming back to us. Freo may have slightly stretched at Pick 13, he hasn't played senior footy and is homesick. If he asks to be traded (still think he stays) we would offer our second rounder (23) and a fringe player. If Freo are not interested (which they won't be), they'll keep him and hope he changes his mind. Then we pounce next year.

Been suggesting this for a few weeks. I'd go as far as to suggest Wright, White AND 23 could be packaged for Weller. Those two still have upside which another team could potentially see, plus I kind of like the fact that we could package up pick 23 with former pick 24, 25. :p

The only way I see our first being swapped with Freo's first would be if our first is around 7 and theirs around 13, highly unlikely on both accounts.

I would assume that only a select few would be worthy of giving up a top pick for, namely Kelly, Cameron, Prestia or Treloar.

Blake Hardwick is one i'm really keen on, kicked another 4 goals for Eastern on the weekend. He provides heavy scoreboard impact and reminds me of a young Robbie Gray, someone who at U18 level is dominant one on one inside 50 and can hopefully transition into playing bursts through the midfield. If we could get him at our third rounder it would be a steal imo.

Anyways...........

...............back to pick 4 - Francis v Parish v Curnow v Mathieson

Like BS said we'll get another early pick and then with some trades/free agency it should be a while before we see a top 5 pick again via the draft

The GWS match showed up our deficiencies in the midfield. We need 4-5 quality mids over the next 2 years, (pace outside and grunt inside all of whom have quality disposal) plus a Fish/Dempster like defender replacement. Probably another young key fwd in a couple of years to for cover to support Bruce and Paddy....

The thing that gets me is that we're 18th for clearances in the league. That tells me that we need more inside as well as outside. It also tells me that Ross and Dunstan are still learning and I'm hoping that their improvement will also translate to improvement in the clearances.

Ideally one monster grunt inside mid quality extractor, 2 outside mids, and 1 uber pacy mid (e.g. Brad Hill). Good teams have 9 or 10 running thru the midfield - we're not there yet....

It's too early for the full stats to be up yet but I just noticed that Balic and Mathieson were both named best on ground for their respective teams on the weekend. Balic kicked 2 goals while Mathieson got 1.

I'm actually not fazed with outside mids. What showed vs GWS is we need (you touched on it) player(s) that give us quality clearances and drive out of the centre. Ross and Dunstan don't do that and never will, they are inside extractors and do their work at the bottom of packs. Quality teams need them as well so we've got that base covered.

What we need to prioritise now is a bull like Dangerfield or Shiel that drives the ball out of the centre with brute strength and speed or a Pendlebury or (dare I say it) Bintempelli type that slides through congestion and gets clear quality disposal away with quality clearances.

What was noticeable yesterday and all year for that matter is our players had no problem getting their hands on the ball first but we couldn't break away. A lot of the time we created repeat ball ups but that's it.

So the million dollar question is: who from the draft will give us quality clearances? Can Balic be that guy that slides through congestion and moves the ball forward with purpose? Can Parish be that guy or is his size too much a concern? Are Dunkley and Mathieson too one dimensional and similar to what we've already got?
