Ok so lets work with that
In
Kruz ..$550-600k a yr
Carlisle ..$500-550k a yr ] total $1.5k a yr
Bennell ...$400-450k a yr
Outs
Hale ..$400 a yr
McEvoy .. $400-450 a yr ] total $1.2 k a yr
Lake ...$ 400-450
So not out of the question cap wise .....
I think we would need to throw 500 - 600 plus to lure Bennell away from Gold Coast.

The club loves Big Boy and he is in our leadership group. Not going anywhere is my first thoughts.

Hartung and SChoey are the ones that might have a little bit of currency with one of our picks added.

Essendon need players big time. Would Schoey and Hartung get the job done for Jake the Snake?

We only need to take over his CURRENT contract which id see around my previous figure but yes going fwd it would need to be increased but with the top end like Hodge , Mitch , Gibbo and Bergs coming to and end cap space will open up quickly .

Billy would .

How about we get a FA ruckman and trade one of ours and a first rdr for Bennell ??
A first rdr and 2nd rdr would get Carlisle ..
Lock it in!

Who we trading out to get that 2nd x 1st Rounder?

Question. Why would be want to get rid of one our runners. When the teams that have exposed us this year have done it with speed.

Bennell sure..He's quick . But trading Billy for Carlisle?? ...doesn;t make sense...
I didn't say we did want to , was asked would either get Carlisle ..

Still not paying that much for Carlisle pick-wise. Not because he's not worth it (because he may be delisted if suspended) but because we're giving the bombres that pick.

I would be stunned Brant if we pushed as hard as we did to get futures in this yr to trade both on just one player ...!!
No mate, I like what you're saying here & I really hope that you're correct.

Kruzer as a FA makes sense - he's anyone's who wants to post the $$. The result is that Hale is a goner. Hopefully, he can go around again & will be offered as a Trade sweetener.

Carlisle is a need, not a want. Lake is our insurance, in case we can't/don't get him. Our competition in 2016/7 comes from WCE, Footscray & soon, from GWS. They have dynamic, big forwards. A duo of Carlisle & Frawley can counter these, but not Frawley + Brand/Heatherley (yet).

Bennell is also kind of a need - at least his type is. We are a slow team. We have outside runners, but the most of our players are below average in speed. This is what costs us against richmond & poort - not that we don't have quick wingmen.

So trading out our 2015 & 2016 picks t get the above would be brilliant.

Now... How do we get ourselves one of those 2016 1st Round Picks back? (or two).

Carlisle is not guaranteed to be here for the next 2 years. Too risky at this point for mine.

Agreed, but what is the option? Who plays full back for us when Lake is gone?
Lake plays on next year, but only plays when match ups suit, ie v Eagles, Swans, Cats, Pies, Kangas
Litherland to play on the smaller forwards when Lake is rested

Most sides now don't really play multiple power forwards, which is why some "experts" are questioning whether both Lake and Frawley can play in the same side now

In 2017 Frawley takes over at FB

Well I think he is actually from Essendon so not a real westy as such, nice area to be honest and I prefer it to a lot of the east. Has nothing on Sorrento though mate ;)
Yeah I'm just playin around mate.
I grew up east of Melb but love all of Melb but you are correct, it has nothing on Sorrento. Imo

Eagles do. Kennedy + Darling + Ruckman.
Footscray play Crameri + Boyd + Stringer.
GWS play Cameron + Patton + the moustache.

They're the contenders for the next 3 years.

Lake has a spot against all 3 teams. In fact, we kinda can't afford to not have him - unless we replace him. We don't have a replacement on the list.

Bennell is an absolute jet and just what we need but the biggest myth or misconception in football is that we are slow. Out of our best 22 only Hodge, Mitch, Lewis, Lake and our 2 ruckmen would be below average in speed. We don't lose to Port or Richmond because of leg speed, in fact I would argue that we are as quick as any team going around.

It goes without saying that targeting free agents makes the most sense given that you dont have to give anything up for them. If (and I know its a big if) we could bring in Kruezer or Leuenberger and Dangerfield and send McEvoy and a first round pick to Essendon for Carlisle you have effectively picked up 2 guns for a first round pick. Then of course you have to fit everyone in the cap.

This is my assessment of the trade targets. Feel free to correct me if you think I am wrong...

Player | Contract Status | Approx Trade Value | Salary
Patrick Dangerfield | Restricted Free Agent | Nothing | ~$800/yr.
Jaeger O'Meara | Contracted | Top 10 pick and B-grade player (Whitecross) | ~$500/yr.
Adam Treloar | Uncontracted | Early 1st rd and early 2nd rd pick | $600/yr.
Harley Bennell | Contracted | Top 10 pick and B-grade player (Whitecross) | ~$500/yr.
Jake Carlisle | Uncontracted | Top 10 pick or 2 x late 1st rd's | ~$600/yr.
James Aish | Uncontracted | Late first round pick | ~$400/yr.
Chad Wingard | Contracted | Top 5 pick and promising player (Anderson) | ~$600/yr.
Matthew Kreuzer | Restricted Free Agent | Nothing | ~$550-600/yr.
Matthew Leuenberger | Restricted Free Agent | Nothing | ~$500-550/yr.
Robbie Tarrant | Resigned with NM on August 15th.
Chris Yarran | Contracted | 1st rd pick | ~$400-450/yr.
Steven Motlop | Uncontracted | Top 10 pick | ~$500/yr.
Jeremy Howe | Uncontracted | Late first round pick | ~$450/yr.
Charlie Dixon | Uncontracted | First round pick and B-grade player (Whitecross) | ~$600/yr.
Lewis Jetta | Uncontracted | First round pick | ~$450/yr.

Nope.

Stratts & Gibbo are slow. Lake is very slow. Roughy is slow. Shiels is slow. Hodge, Lewis & Mitchell are slow. Birch & Suckers are quick enough, but have poor acceleration, as does Duryea. Breust hides his lack of pace by his evasiveness & body work, but his top speed is slow. Our ruckmen are slow, compared with Ryder, Goldstein or Tic Tac - but they do OK around the ground so they make up for it.

We are below average with regard to speed.

Langers, Smitty, Hill, Billy, Sizzle, Burgoyne & Popeye are genuinely quick. Frawley is quick for a big guy - better even than Darling IMO.

There is no way I would put Stratton, Gibson, Shiels or Roughy in the slow category.

Shiels, perhaps not slow - but poor acceleration - average at best.

The others, especially Gibbo & Stratts this year, are slow.

I said Eagles do
Crameri and Stringer aren't power forwards, neither is Cameron from GWS. Lake never lines up on these types

Lake plays on Cloke, Tippett, Kennedy, Hawkins, Patton, Ben Brown type forwards, and not against Port Adelaide's or Bulldogs forward line of fast moving small to medium types, that is when Litherland needs to be given the opportunity
