A lot of clubs passed on Bruest for him to go in the Rookie. Doesn't explain how Sydney had zone recruiting in a time of the NSW Scholarships program where players like Sierakowski (T.Walker being the most famous) were drafted from.
bruest played in there 2nds so they had a look at him. My best mate loves to rib me about Joey but I come back with bruest which shuts him up.

Ok , the Jed wash up .....
At the start of the year just like most of us the club had hoped he was our next Mid , but as the BH year rolled on something started to go down . His mid field time was becoming far less and his time Fwd far more . Then he was spending far larger chunks of time on the pine even to a point at times not returning after 3/4 time .
So I chased it up , and without going to deep it had become obvious that his body won't allow him to play mid , lower back spasms, cramping , tighening of the hammy's etc all stuff the club tried to sort all year with no positive results .
Imo Jed is now a small fwd who can swing a game on sheer talent , not an elite midfielder as we had hoped , and being we have a number of quality small Fwds I suspect he and the club saw the benefits of a trade for the right results.
He can play , we all know that , but he's not what we need to regenerate this list .
Hope this helps enlighten many here disappointed in his trade out .
Thanks Dash, makes sense I wondered whether his issues this year we're due to the amount of footy he had missed over the last couple of years or part of a bigger issue with his body.
Makes sense for both him and the club to make the trade

Thought I'd leave this here - I found it another part of the forum. Basically, details all the historical draft picks and their games. Interesting looking at pick-success rates.

Pick no.6 is cursed. Can we give that to Essendon somehow.
Interesting. Those numbers tell me

- Picks 1, 2 & 3 are worth considerably more than other top 10 picks but there isn't that much difference between them.
- Getting a good player becomes much more of a crapshoot after pick 20
- Drafting has become more of an exact science over the past 20 years

Call me crazy but I see value in some of the delisted free agents if the Hawks only use 2-3 picks in the draft.
I've already put it out there that Gorringe would be a handy pick up with his tank, & skills. I recon Monkey can work wonders on this guy.
Mathew wattson... Yes... I think has upside in a club that can get him the footy as a forward & at a pinch can go back. I don't see him as less a prospect in defence to the other guys looking for that other KPD, but more as a cheep forward.
Sippos has clean skills but injuries have haunted his progression.
Daniel markworth must have something to offer, similar to Woodward having potential, as StKilda want to rookie list the kid after a shit run of luck with injuries.
Reddin & Fitzpatric are for me are a chance just as Cegs was not that long ago.
Dalglesh & Aylett are speculative but have pace & preseasons... & anyone coming out of the Bombers might have been distracted in the last few seasons.
Edit:
*Sam Menegola & Jacob Ballard mature mids that got a few kicks in the WAFL

I'm sure there is more but as I said before if the Hawks only use a couple of picks, that I've not looked into enough to single out.... Gresham, Collins, Oliver, Hibbard... I think there are ready made players that can contribute without the massive pay packet that is not warranted

Has anyone mentioned Jade Gresham?
Had a look at his highlights from the Under 18 champs and the kid can play.
Gets a lot of the ball, works hard and his disposal is terrific, which as we know, Hawthorn seem to seek out. Add that to the fact he can kick goals from the midfield, I think he could be a good get with 15 or 18

Can still go with the same setup down back as 2014 with Frawley replacing Lake (Spangher taking the 2nd tall). I'd expect Heatherley / Brand to get game time in 2016!
Brand certainly looks to be developing well after his reco this year. Good size and skills, and a good back-up for Chip and Spang (with leg injury worries). If the fitness staff can do the wonders with Spang that they have done with Cyril then we should be well covered in defence next year, because the monsters will still be around (Hawkins, Cloke etc.) to test us without Lake there.

;) yep. Not that long ago. Looks the pick if he slides to the Hawks at 15

If we can get both francis and Gresham at this draft .. We should be ecstatic . Francis is an obvious gun .. Great skills balance size and competes.. Is a-grade in years to come.. Potential midfield star..

Gresham.. Potential elite small midfield general in Mitchell's mould..

We can only hope

I wonder if Essendon and the Hawks have negotiated a losers fee if the Saints finally stump up pick 5 for Carlisle. This is not unknown in corporate takeovers and may involve an agreement to a pick swap or something similar. It may be a bit sophisticated for some but not a bad tactic to gain a better offer.

Haha that may be the case, but for majority of the afl the system makes the player. There are only a few who command that the game evolve around them.
Why stock a rookie list with kids that are speculative anyway why not give a seasoned ( afl trained ) player a second chance. It doesn't cost any extra & if the player fits they are 3-4years advanced on a kid straight out of the Juniors. Don't get me wrong.. The kids need an opportunity & the rookie list does just that but for a team that is in its premiership window & looking to extend it, using 2-3picks in the draft ( as that's where the elite juniors are supposed to be ) to develop the best kids & topping up a list with the 'trash' from other clubs that have potential to fit a system & be afl ready sooner makes more sense than putting 4-5 kids on your list that realistically are not going to make the side anyway.

Dodo mentioned that he considered pick 5 and 15 + 18 on the same sort of level.

If the saints do the deal for pick 5, is it possible Wright has struck a deal with dodo to trade 5+23 for 15+18? Sort of as a thank you for putting the pressure on the saints? And a reward for the Hawks for helping them out? Bombers get 4 picks inside 25 (and still pick up a top talent), Hawks can hopefully grab a Francis/Curnow type and a slider with 23. Will be interesting whether the goodwill between the Hawks and bombers will extend to late next week?!

Clubs don't recruit players on their physical statistics. They have been watching them develop since they were 14. They know how these players have been developing, they know if they have a bigger scope to improve than the delisted players, they know if they have the work ethic and desire to get better.

If they thought the players in the draft were rubbish, the Watson's, the Gorringe's and the rest of the spuds would have been signed.

I bet you didn't even know who Marc Pittonet was this time last year? The recruiters sure did.

I get the feeling that essendon don't even want pick 5 from StKilda. I think they have set themselves the target of having 5 picks inside the top 25 which could only be met through trading him to us. Dont forget also that by the points grading picks 15 and 18 are equivalent to pick.4. So there is some logic in that thinking. Perhaps they see value in a number of players around that stage of the draft that make it a better deal. They seem very dismissive of StKilda at the moment. Knowing Essendon theyll dig their heels and demand that Carlisle and his management cooperate with Hawthorn.

Bombers won't give up pick 5 if they get it.

Have heard through a fairly good lead that 2 of our recruiters had a dinner date at Mitchell hibbards place.
Recruiters would have had dinners with at least a dozen hopefuls by this stage.
Good to know who they rate at the moment, that kind of intel is what this tread is about, I do have concerns over Hibbards durability as he is already taped to the max (shoulders) and has had an ACL repair already.

No idea at all! All I said was that I believe there is potential in delisted players. Anyone else are welcome to their own opinion. I followed up with if a player who didn't fit one system might thrive in another. I also mentioned that an under developed kid that won't play is less useful than a player that could fit a system & play straight away when you are trying to keep a premiership window open. I didn't say that all kids are off limits, I did say that 2-3 picks of quality to develop is better. IMO.
