Its not dumb. Every club does it and the AFL want clubs to do it.

Once again its speculation we would have been able to rookie him if he hadn't played VFL. Clubs might have still rated him a late national draft pick he had a good TAC cup year with a couple of big goal hauls. Twomey also had him as a player to watch at the Champs so he was hardly off the radar

no worst than the fup last year where Oliver was tracking under the radar and then the club played him and he had 14 possies till half time. They not only intially posted his stats but also named him in the top couple on the ground. 12 hours later it was gone from the website, but I know of two recruiters that picked up on it and then started paying alot more attention.
Probably neglect of them in the first place for not being there watching him but it does happen.
Kirby was looking like not being drafted before the nationals , it is very common for kids who miss or flop at the nationals to play vfl to further expose their talent.

I don't believe not playing him for a couple of games in the twos would have lead to a mental break down or legal action

He wasn't even a proper Vfl listed Richmond player I do not think
