Recruiters look at players 3 years out. I can guarantee you that recruiters didn't say to themselves who the hell is the Kirby kid on the back of 2 VFL games. You can't 'hide' anyone anymore.

Playing him may have exposed him more. But by not playing him no one would have known if he could play at that level.
AFL recruiters view kids alot more than 3 years out. Try 6 years out +.

That's not the reality! That's what you assume recruiters were thinking.

Im likewise happy to have the discussion within the realms of reality, but let's not mix reality up with assumption.

The reality is your taking your viewpoint on a player your readily admit as being unknown to you until two VFL games, and supplanting said viewpoint on the all recruiters. Which by virtue includes our own.

The reality is that the VFL game would have provided information to 18 AFL clubs about a player. That information would have been used in conjunction with A) years worth of tape and live viewing. B) medical history. C) player interviews. D) coach interviews. E) psychological testing. F) physical testing. G) skills testing.

There's also likely to be more information they would have gathered.

Kirby would have likewise been seeing for the Pioneers in the 13 games this season where he kicked 32 goals, including a bag of 6 in one game. Across these 13 games he would have played against multiple AFL talented players.

Quite, yet the FACT is he was drafted 50-60

It might have been possible he'd fall thur to the rookie draft to a tigers pick if he nae dominated the Vfl

We are mostly supporters on a footy discussion board so occasionally assumptions are required.

To suggest that Kirby and Oliver only got noticed because of playing VFL for us is pure naivety. It's not like the vast majority on here who only start to notice kids once the season is shot and the draft is the saving grace that gets you through the season. These kids are watched for 2-3 years by recruiters before they are drafted so would be on the radars of clubs well before they pulled on the Richmond VFL jumper. As Clarke said in the preview video we've got someone employed full time who watches the kids eligible for the 2017 draft who will now turn his attention to kids who can be drafted in 2018.
Oliver was not playing consistent TAC footy , he is a vast exception. Many recruiters view the VPSSA and similar which caters for 12 year olds. Whilst there are plenty of kids who don't make u15's u16's or bottom age TAC yet make significant improvement in their final year. Predominately these are the types who play as the 23 rd player.

It might have been possible he'd fall thur to the rookie draft to a tigers pick if he bit dominated the Vfl

Its equally possible that even if he didn't play with the VFL he would have been drafted 50-60.

The quip about assumption was because you stated you were happy to have a discussion but to tet and stay realistic, and then made a whole bunch of sweeping assumptions.

Possible yes

Unlikely however

You are being purposely obtuse pretending his game winning performances in the 2nd best football league In australia are rated no more Important than playing vs 17 year olds

Kirby's performance certainly solidified a lot of teams opinions but he was highly unlikely to miss out on being drafted and fall in our laps as a cat b rookie.

He played 13 games for Bendigo and was in the best 5 times, with 3 hauls of 4 goals and 1 of 6, he also kicked 32 goals in 12 games.

How do you know it was unlikely? As I said, it's not as if Kirby was an unknown entity until the VFL games. Cal Twomey had him in the top 20 players whom to watch for prior to the National carnival.

Two VFL performances would be taken into account with swarms of other information that would be available to all other clubs. Would it have an impact sure, but it's not going to be the difference between getting drafted at 50 and past 77. Did Collingwood solely take Kirby on account of the VFL? You would have to be very naive to think so.

Kids have stats like that in the u18s all the time and go undrafted

I'm not the one who made a statement with no factual backing. Its up to you to prove your statement not me.

I don't fancy reading over 20 years of 16 year olds stats right now I'll get back to u. For third and last time he was pick 55 or something it's not like he was a supersafe bet he'd get picked national draft

* especially kids that have done well in u18s that are under 180cms
