This made me chuckle...

http://www.abc.net.au/news/2015-12-31/2016-sporting-predictions/7060172?section=sport

Fremantle's shaggy-haired sensation Nat Fyfe once again leaves pundits and punters lost for words as he runs rings around every midfield in the league in 2016.

The 24-year-old glides across the park week after week, gobbling up possessions like Pac-Man gobbles up little white digital dots.

Heading into the last week of the regular season, it's estimated Fyfe holds at least a 30-point lead in the Brownlow Medal count, having previously escaped suspension for a number of late hits, tripping incidents and on-field brawls.

With just two minutes to go in the minor-premiership decider against the Swans, however, Fyfe inexplicably loses his cool when someone says his hair looks messy, roundhouse kicking Buddy Franklin in the head before slapping the goal umpire not once, but thrice across the face.

The AFL tribunal deliberates for 28 hours straight before eventually finding Fyfe guilty of rough conduct, and suspending him for one week, thus ruling him out of the best and fairest count.

Meanwhile, Matt Priddis Steven Bradburys to his second Brownlow, thus confirming his status as one of the modern greats.

Oh please no.

"...thus confirming his status as one of the modern greats"

That last line was very clever, reminded me of a line from a Woody Allen book I read many years ago.

Sean O'Shawn, the great Irish poet, "considered by many to be the most incomprehensible and hence the finest poet of his time".

Have any of you heard of the term Anti-Pattern?

Definition 1:
http://c2.com/cgi/wiki?AntiPattern
"an anti-pattern is something that looks like a good idea, but which backfires badly when applied"

Definition 2:
http://www.afl.com.au/news/2016-01-04/dawson-aims-to-kick-on-in-2016-as-freo-hopes-to-rebound
FREMANTLE defender Zac Dawson is intent on improving his kicking over the pre-season in a bid to help the Dockers become a better rebounding team in 2016. ;)
Cynical bastard :)

Brilliant Dockers recruit and Star Fremantle recruit are terms I was hoping to see after a few games this year
But here we are in January and Harley Bennell has been upgraded already.
So, maybe that means the Troubled Dockers recruit, Harley Bennell tag has been consigned to history.

Cheagle seem to be obsessed within injury stories at Fremantle but at least they're not referring to HB as troubled now.
Got to say, I thought it would take longer than this.

Yeah maybe, but how can two reporters go to the same training session and come back with polar opposite stories?? 7 had Fyfe and Bennell on their last legs and out of time for the preseason comp and 9 had Fyfe progressing really well and Bennell with a minor set back!!

One is channel Eagle and one isn't.

Barra (Ch 7) left less than 30 mins into a 2hr + session. Paddy Sweeney (Ch 9) stayed until the end and would have seen Bennell running slowly and Fyfe running after training. Work ethic/due diligence.

Barra spends the session on his mobile oblivious to what is happening on the ground. He makes shit up,the more sensational the better.

I have had a chance to give this a bit more thought .
I think I understand it now;

If Cheagle do a story on Freo with a negative theme then they need to make it sound worse by referring to the injured player as a highly rated player , IE a star or brilliant recruit.
It is intended to create the perception of a greater adverse impact on Fremantle.
I recall when Brett Peake was traded to St Kilda, he was referred to as " Star Fremantle midfielder ", yet during the season he was referred to as struggling Freo midfielder.

Conversely, if there is a potentially positive aspect to a Freo story, IE, Harley Bennell joins Freo, he of course is referred to as a troubled player with a checkered past.

That explains why they have changed their tune on Harley sooner than expected, in my opinion anyway.

Superficial bastards they are.

this bit made me laugh.

People around here may think the AFL has it in for us, but Fyfe was very, very lucky to escape without a suspension last year.

Anyone hear Kim Hagdorn on the Bob Maumil show yesterday morning?
Hagdorn pretends he comes to training and seems to think that he knows what's happening down there, but has anyone ever seen Kim at training?

He claims that the players went against the coaching staff by electing David Mundy over Nat Fyfe and this was a snub to Fyfe who is now more likely to leave the club when his contract is up in 2017.

Bob Maumil laughed at him, as did many of the callers who rang in calling Hagdorn an idiot. Everyone except Haggers seems to understand that Nat Fyfe is only 24 and still developing his game. He is not ready to captain the side just yet, but will be in 2 years when David Mundy steps down.

We all know Fyfey loves it here and likes to head down to see the folks on the farm when he can.

One Hawthorn supporter even rang in saying that Luke Hodge was tipped to take over the captaincy from Richie Vandenburg when he retired at the end of 2007, however the senior players and coaching staff thought he was a bit too young and needed to work on his game a bit more, so Sam Mitchell got the nod ahead of Luke Hodge which angered a lot of their members who were worried that Hodge would feel shunned and then leave the club as a result.

So how did that work out?

I had to laugh when a caller asked Haggers, "How'd that story about Aaron Sandilands leaving Freo to head to the Gold Coast go?"

To which Haggers replied, "I never wrote that story, someone else did"
