Nope Fyfe is slimmer legs,arms,torso.
I think everyone agrees to the legs being slimmer bit, but I did some dodgy photoshop work to overlay his team photo from 2015 & 2016 & definitely bulkier in the torso.

His hair's definitely gotten bigger too. But his facial expression is EXACTLY THE SAME!

Different posing lengths from the camera. Fyfe is leaner,I can't be convinced otherwise , we where all surprised today how much he had slimmed down. Actually the whole squad is leaner and meaner except Lachie Neale. He is just meaner.:)

Neale like to show his dance move to sutty and gu also

Ross seems to still be backing him and that's enough for me to stay hopeful, I just also hope this year that doesn't stop us from trying other options that might be more beneficial to the team if it isn't quite producing what we need.

This is where we seem to disagree. You think he was "backed in" last year? I do not. It was glaringly obvious that we needed a 2nd tall forward all year, but the only one we had was constantly being dropped and subbed off despite contributing quite well for a player at that stage of his career.

It wasn't until the preliminary final that the match committee finally accepted that we had to play a 2nd tall forward to beat Hawthorn. So we brought him back into the side after only playing 4 of the last 12 games. And then subbed him off in that game too. That's hardly "backing someone in".

Hopefully he is actually backed in this year.

Taberner seemed to be struggling with some niggling injuries last year though so that may have played a part in his selection, in fact he had a few weeks about round 17-19ish where he didn't play AFL or WAFL, then he came back to WAFL kicked a bag of 5 and was back in the team by round 23.
He was omitted for the QF but it was meant to be a rainy windy day, Ross then backed him in for the prelim final and when he is fit this year then i am sure Ross will continue to back him in.

at training today they were doing clearance drills right on the boundary where I was sitting and Fyfe tried a quick clearing kick and got smothered and as the ball bounced back he grabbed it and threw it into the fence making a really loud bang at the same time as he screamed in frustration. I actually jumped a bit and backed off, just the sheer power coming out of the guy. The next clearance he just ran through it collecting the ball on the way through almost as if by sheer force of will.
He is a force of nature.

In the prelim, at 3/4 time with us needing to catch a 3 goal deficit for a spot in the GF, Ross subbed Taberner off. Not exactly "backing him in".

Dropping a crucial mark and hardly getting a touch probably didn't help his cause. I like Tabs but in that particular game he was next to useless.

On the Fyfe bulking up comment the general consensus today amongst the watchers was how much condition he had lost. Fyfe looked small standing along side Barlow.
That is because Michael is a beast :)

I was interested in Lyon's latest interview when talking about the loss of Sandi. Basically he said we have Griff and Jack. He also mentioned Zak but said he would need to get a move on.

From that you can take it that Big Griff is the second ruck of choice and whilst I hear that Zak is training the house down it seems that Lyon feels he needs to make him uncomfortable or challenge him to get the best out of him. The other possibility is that it is a reference to the amount of training missed but the tone was very much - show me something Zak.

Mark Twain covered this one "It's not the size of the dog in the fight, but the size of the fight in the dog."
That was the South Freo motto in years gone by and maybe still is. Go the Bullies and:p:p :p:thumbsdown:to the supporters of that Moss St mob.:D

Now I'm going to make an observation about Fyfe so please take it the right way and not shoot the poster
Fyfe in my honest opinion has added too much bulk over the preseason . He is looking fantastic but the extra bulk has slowed him down and he has lost some of his agility as a result . In making my judgement about his build i will remind posters of a little history 1 past player and 2 current players .
Medhurst became a weighs junkie as a result he became too heavy and lost his weapons of mobility and evasiveness . Hannath and Grey last year made the same mistake .Hannath built up so much he couldn't get off the ground ,Grey last year built up his thighs and calfs so much he had to have the physios massage his legs every time he went to the bench and between every quarter of football.
Anyone that has been to training has commented about how much better both players look this year with their new body shape . I think Fyfe decided that to break more tackles he needed to put more time in the gym but my feeling is that he has taken it too far and he needs to re visit the fitness coaches .
Did anyone else notice that he had lost some speed in the Richmond game .

I'd be pretty surprised if the S&C programs for the players weren't micromanaged down to the nth degree by the fitness dept. Doubtful that players can just decide to bulk up on their own independant of the fitness guys. They're pretty good at building power without sacrificing speed these days - as others have said, Fyfe is probably just short on conditioning at the moment given his interrupted preseason.

Re Hannath and Grey... both came to the club already carrying a bit too much bulk in the lower body, it's just taken a few preseasons to lean them out. I don't remember Hannath suddenly bulking up last year, I think he's gotten leaner each year he's been here.

Geelong seemed to field quite a strong team this weekend. What do you think the chances of them using nab2 as their main hitout and dropping a few seniors for the trip west?

Hopefully not the case as I wanted a very strong test for nab3.

WC fronting up to Essendon would be spewing. WC have not had a decent hit out. Geelong will be the perfect lead into the season.

I don't think it matters much as we will be going in with a few underdone players.
We just need a run around. To emerge from this game with no injuries is the priority.

Look at the hit Dangerfield copped yesterday. We don't need that.
TBH, I hate these NAB games.
