Tabs and Crozier didn't get much of a crack last year. Tabs played 15 games and was subbed out for half of them. Crozier played 11 and was the sub in a few of those.

Pretty hard to compare them to someone who played every game and was never subbed off.
So because the coaches decided they weren't valuable enough to get a full game they get a free pass on their performance when they were on the ground?

I'm sorry, but if you get any time on the field you should be expected to perform whilst you are there. Tabs and Croz both had sub par output when they were on the field - so the time on ground has little relevance to the debate. Both of them are developing so you can expect they are not going to be our best forwards yet but it is ridiculous to think either of them would produce better output than Mayne if they played a full game. Crozier couldn't even impact when he came on fresh with only a quarter to go - he was rated as one of the lowest impact substitutes across the league last year.

I disagree that Taberner was sub par. I think he was decent in the limited opportunities he got, and our forward line was more dangerous whenever he played. Taberner averaged more contested marks per game than Pavlich last year (and 4th most for Fremantle after Sandilands, Griffin and Fyfe) and 0.9 goals a game despite having the lowest TOG of anyone in the team.

Considering that Taberner had to deal with not only being subbed off in every game, but playing in a forward line where we are always looking to kick it to Pavlich, AND playing in conditions not suited to tall forwards for a fair part of the season, I think he is severely underrated by many here.

Crozier I agree but how much of an impact do you expect from someone who plays as the sub, and then a defensive forward when they do get a run?

I didn't compare them, I commented on their ability to put realistic pressure on Mayne for a starting 22 position. You are the only poster I can think of who makes a claim that playing in more than half the games for a season is not getting much of a crack.

This is interesting wayToGo_ - where can I find the substitute ratings for last year?
Champion data. They say he had the third lowest output of those to don the green vest on a few occasions. And don't get me wrong, I think he could be a good player, as we have seen in glimpses, but I just don't think he works hard enough and suspect that's why he has been so inconsistent.

I want Tabs to become the forward we all want him to become as much as the next fan but to think he is average or above average as a key forward at this point in his career is fanciful. When we kicked to him inside 50 last year we scored just 27% of the time, that was one of the lowest scoring rates of any forward in the league. He's young, he is developing, he is improving every year (and I agree with you he was decent last year given where he is at) but it's pretty clear he is currently below average for a key forward in the AFL and still has a very long way to go. Ross seems to still be backing him and that's enough for me to stay hopeful, I just also hope this year that doesn't stop us from trying other options that might be more beneficial to the team if it isn't quite producing what we need.

Like I said from the start, all I'd like is that all our players be judged on their actual output rather than their perceived output or worse, their potential. We need our best 22 out there who are going to deliver what we need, not the 22 we think has the potential to be great.

Tabs has improved his marking but is still to easily out muscled when competing in pack marking contests . Clarke has to play so I suggest Hannath will be dropped to make way for him .
Smith not playing in the Tigers game was a strange one for me , he needs to play against the Crows if he is going to be retained on our list is my gut feeling .
Now I'm going to make an observation about Fyfe so please take it the right way and not shoot the poster
Fyfe in my honest opinion has added too much bulk over the preseason . He is looking fantastic but the extra bulk has slowed him down and he has lost some of his agility as a result . In making my judgement about his build i will remind posters of a little history 1 past player and 2 current players .
Medhurst became a weighs junkie as a result he became too heavy and lost his weapons of mobility and evasiveness . Hannath and Grey last year made the same mistake .Hannath built up so much he couldn't get off the ground ,Grey last year built up his thighs and calfs so much he had to have the physios massage his legs every time he went to the bench and between every quarter of football.
Anyone that has been to training has commented about how much better both players look this year with their new body shape . I think Fyfe decided that to break more tackles he needed to put more time in the gym but my feeling is that he has taken it too far and he needs to re visit the fitness coaches .
Did anyone else notice that he had lost some speed in the Richmond game .

Fyfe has lost bulk ,I don't get where you're coming from that he has bulked up. . Smith has no need to play .Rookies won't be in the mix for selection first game.

Fyfe definitely bulk up, Allikat love it , but to me he need to to lost a bit not a lot just personal opinion :drunk:

No way has he bulked up from last season. He is much leaner this pre season.
No way fyfe look small standing beside barlow that is a bit too much Salim. I go with coulda with this one. Definitely is lean muscle but when season start you will realise he won't be as smooth as he use to.

Next time you're having a look at training come over to the clubrooms and say hello. We can discuss the size of Fyfe's thigh's;)
Fyfe a perfectionists I heard 2 time he tell himself not good enough.:D. His thigh's is not as big as Neale that is for sure.;).

Back to Nab , my guess after today training session missing line up for mt Barker.

Uebergang , Nyhuis, yarran ( a bit early but still hope he play) , Pav (croz) , spurr (grey), ballas (Langdon), .mundy ( bennell)

Fyfe's definitely bulked up the arms/chest, but he's visibly slimmed down in the legs (probably due to not being able to walk most of pre-season).

So both of you are wrong meima

Fyfe tends to slim down a bit during the actual season though, so I don't think the bulk's going to affect him too much. He's like a bear storing muscles/guns for the winter.

Soz Meima, He looks a lot smaller than last year
I don't get this Vickery thing. Wasn't it heatstroke?? I can't remember seeing him get hit during the game.
Why are they talking about it as a concussion now?

More like he took something. Nobody gets heatstroke like that after playing for 10 minutes.

Bit suss imo.
