Berry’s resilience, professionalism, footy skills and incredible athletic ability were on full display during the gruelling weekend of testing, emerging as arguably the most impressive prospect of the combine.

He finished equal-first in the beep test (15.1) on the Saturday, then — most impressively — backed it up on the Sunday in the 3km time trial with a personal best time of 9.46 minutes to also finish first.

AFL national talent football manager Michael Ablett was blown away by Berry’s efforts.

“The 3km time trial was an opportunity for players to show how resilient they were. This was where their character shined through. And when you talk about Jarrod Berry, you’re talking about probably the best character of this year’s class,” Ablett said.

On top of those excellent efforts in the aerobic events, Berry finished equal-third in the kicking test, equal-fourth in clean hands, fourth in repeat sprints test and equal-sixth in agility. He couldn’t have been more impressive.

Starting a bit early aren't you? Don't want to even wait until we've drafted someone before suggesting they're no good? But, but they'll be youth.

We are the Anti-John West drafters, we only take the fish that everyone else reject.

We have risky options and we have safe options, we need to grow some balls.

Whispers we are strongly into Jarrod Berry. Florent to Sydney earlier than expected...

I'd be very surprised to see an interstate club pick Florent. Ofcourse it's possible, but I don't see it. The word is interstate clubs very wary about moving him away from his family at the moment.

Berry would still be a solid choice.

Went to school with most of the Venables family and I can confirm they are all mad north supporters, watched a fair bit of Daniel during his junior footy and is a very very good player class above when playing fully fit but consistently broke down a fair bit. His kicking is not as bad as people think, and he is an extremely motivated kid. Unfortunately don't think he will end up with us as I reckon he will go 15-20. He has already had a fair few meeting with Essendon more than any club so far..
Venables should go to Essendon like i said...

We look at who's available at our pick. You can't pick those who have already been picked, so by definition other clubs have "rejected" them in favour of other options we never had a chance at.

While I share the sentiment that we could do with some real 'x-factor', much of this comes down to where our picks rest. I'd love an SPS and hope he's a fish others reject... but he won't be. If we're going down this track you suggest, why not a Cedric Cox or a SPP?

The rumour of Florent not wanting to go interstate was made up by those in the media, they just put two and two together with his old man passing away a few months ago. From what I've been told he is happy to move, he wont get past port's pick.

I wouldn't say made up. I have no doubt he would of told clubs that he would be prepared to move, but with more players then ever looking to get home i think a Sydney or a GC would find it hard to part with a top 10 pick when there are other solid prospects around that mark. Not saying I'm right your wrong, you've obviously heard something but everything I was hearing was most of the meetings in the last 2 weeks have been with Victorian clubs.

Like you said above, a lot will come down to how the top 5 or 6 take shape. So just wait and see I guess.

Thats fair enough! I guess it could be that he is open to the idea of moving but would prefer to stay in melbourne. For brisbane and GC especially it would be in their thinking considering how many have left there in the past 3 years, but sydney tend to hold on to their interstate recruits (Mitchell the obvious exception, but that was more about $$$ than homesickness)

I've watched 2 highlight videos of Florent and have yet to see him hit a target by foot once. All his shots at goal were points too. Surely before anything else we must draft someone with our first pick who can kick the ball?

Watching two videos is a bit of overkill and would make you an expert by bf standards. I hope our recruiters take note

Do a deal....

Detestable ******* association.

Couldn't have put it better myself. Not only the actions involved but also the fact that the AFL come out and advertise the option they provided - essentially a warning to all clubs. Play it the way we tell you to or we'll come down harder.

Scumbags.
