As much as i like green. I would say he may become somewhat disposable. I know he has been a 2 time leading goal kicker for us but i just cant fit him in our round 1 team. Id have christensen and zorks ahead of him for that small forward role and he will never make the midfield group. Not to mention if taylor improves. Bell and m robbo to play some half forward time aswell. Its a great problem to have however a decent player like green may miss out. I may be 100% wrong however
I reckon Green is our number one stay at home small forward and would play him every week.A 20% raise in defensive ability would however be welcome.

Geez, I got sucked in there, I guess that is where we are at as supporters, we are so keen for our club to be on the right track. We are unfairly depending on young footballers like Taylor, Robertson, Cutler, Mayes, Gardiner, Clarke, Andrews, Dawson, McStay, Close, Paparone, Freeman etc to dig us out of the hole we have been in for the last decade. Unfair expectations.
...please...

I'm afraid I shall have to respectfully disagree!

Chriatensen and zorko more half forwards

Martin - Rockliff - Beams

Hanley - Robinson - Rich

Christensen - Scache - Zorko

Green - Walker - Mcstay

Interchange: Bell, Bastinac both best 22 for me straight up oh and Taylor is a lock best 22

Defense is hard for you guys. I dont know enough about your talls. I know Mcstay is training back but if i was picking the side id play him 3rd tall forward.

Clarke, Cutler, Merrett, Mcgrath, Harwood, Gardiner, Paparone fit into the defenders just not sure who gets picked and probably missing someone. Your backline seems the major weakness hopefully the key talls can come on for you.

I think Paparone plays CHB, Gardiner i pick whether he plays small or tall i dont care i like him. Merrett plays early at least and i think Clarkes really highly rated at the lions. I forgot Mayes.

Gardiner - Merrett - Clarke

Mayes - Paparone - Harwood

Unsure who the real quality small defender is maybe missing someone?

Pretty close. Paparone is tallish but not a great one-on-one option at CHB. He's super fit and fast and reads interceptions well, so he's the first guy flooding back when there's a turnover. Plays zone more than man. HBF likely.

Clarke and Merrett are the first option power defenders. Gardiner usually take best medium/small defender. Andrews played an aerial version of Paparone, tracking anything coming in high for interception.

Mayes took a long time to adjust to playing as the small running defender, but got better over the last 6 rounds and has trained back all preseason.

Harwood, Claye Beams, Cutler, Jayden McGrath and even possibly Robertson or Hanley at times all offer slightly different options as smaller/medium running defenders. We currently don't have a reliable lockdown blanketing back pocket type.

Cutler might be ahead of that group for now.

Its a good problem to have. As for defensive pressure it would be interesting to see where green ranks with the likes of balla or betts. Balla and betts.

With greens surgery i just cant see him playing round 1. He doesnt seem to be leaned out like everyone else.

I watched the first three quarters and all I could add to whats already been said (which is right on the money) is that I was especially impressed by Bastinac. At this stage he would be an absolute lock in our 18 and perhaps one of our better players. It's really exciting.

Was a bit disappointed with Josh Clayton to be honest, I didn't even know he was playing until I was about to leave. I really want to see him take the next step but he was definitely outshone by Mathieson/Keays and for the sake of relevance, Ryan Lester who I'd say would be a similar position to Josh was miles ahead.

I also loved Archie's determination around the ground. He's unpolished and awkward still at times, but you seriously cannot question his effort.

Green has some serious issues he needs to address, the first being his running ability which would help with his second issue of a lack of defensive pressure. Green is great when the ball is within 5m of him and he does the right stuff but if his opponent drops off him and gets to the drop of the ball first, or reads the flight better Green just doesn't work. The best small forwards are always running about, putting on pressure and just generally being annoying. Green has a while to go from being a decent small forward to a great one.

Good to hear about Bastinac. I put what's left of my reputation (lol) on the line and said at the end of 2016 he will be a top 5 important player for us. If he plays inside and excels it will allow Hanley, Beams, Bundy to play more outside which is exactly what we want for fast, exciting and skillful footy. One thing people don't generally realise about Bastinac is that he has an elite handball. This will allow us to go from a stoppage to an attacking position in a split second, and I think if he can get the ball 25 times a match it will go a long way to improving our scoring chains from a stoppage.

100% agree about Bastinac's handball skills, I used to remember hating hearing him mentioned when we played north because the ball had just come out and north were away.

So happy he's now on our team☺!

Just add to the mix, he is now being coached by, arguably, the best handballer for a long time, in Simon Black.

Just need to keep tempering my excitement about 2016

It may be that greens foot injury is as a result of trying to increase his running capacity

I think the suggestion that there is anyone ahead of Green as a small forward is way off. Zorko, Taylor and Christensen are more damaging around half forward with stints in the midfield and deeper forward. None are really suited to playing exclusively as a crumbing forward.

I feel as if Bastinac is gonna be a big addition for us. Not for his own output, but from him being able to do the inside work, probably along with Robbo as well, i think it will allow the likes of Hanley and Beams to play a little more outside, and get the ball in more dangerous areas. These are 2 guys that i want the ball being dish out of a pack to, and Bastinac is the guy that has the hands to get it out to them. Center clearance going Basti > Beams > Bundy > Schache on the lead just sounds soooo good.

A fit and firing green should be aiming for 40+ goals in 2016.

He's a bit behind the 8-ball with his foot, but has averaged 1.6 goals per match over his past two seasons - not easy to do as a small forward. Especially in a dysfunctional forward line like ours o_O

As a comparison, Craig McRae averaged 1.2 over his career.

Green is super important to our overall structure. He plays every game for mine :thumbsu:

I knew I was open to critism and welcome everyones opinions because I do agree somewhat. All in all I hope he kicks 40+ because if he does we are winning alot more games. Just dont see much pressure from him if he doesnt have the pill.

The fact that he can get fitter and put on more pressure is something I think the majority can agree on

But can he? Prior to surgery he looked like he was struggling and hadnt leaned out like everyone else has. Just an observation from training.

Im not saying he cant be important. But he still needs a lot of improvement. (Just like most of our best 22).

Having not been to training myself can't really comment on his work pre-injury, but he certainly looks to me like he has the capacity to be fitter and leaner if he wants it enough. But I make that comment having only watched from a distance
