Things can happen and Pyke may change it up but under 2015 structure, this is how I see our team looking next year:

Lever - Talia - Brown
Laird - Hartigan - Hampton/Cheney
Smith - B.Crouch - Knight/Seedsman
Lynch - Walker - Menzel
Cameron - Jenkins - Betts
Jacobs - Sloane - M.Crouch
Douglas - Thompson - EllisYolmen - one of Cheney/Seedsman/Knight/Hampton
(the right half back/ring wing position will be pretty flexible under Pyke I think. Could be a weekly proposition depending matchups).

SANFL - VB. Mackay. Henderson. Atkins. Grigg. Shaw. Otten. Lyons. Gore. O'Brien. Kelly. Pick 9. Pick 13. Plus others I probably forgot.

Delist Wright.

That team kicks a lot of goals. Still reckon our 3 biggest keys moving forward are B.Crouch (extraction from the packs), Smith (with the new ability to comfortably push up as a wingman to enter the 50 with a bullet) and actually Hartigan (without a second big bodied defender of high quality we will struggle).

After Danger leaving I was flat as a tack. The trade period has me back :)

My team-

HB- Hampton Talia Laird
C- Seedsman B Crouch Smith
HF- Lynch Walker Menzel
F- Cameron Jenkins Betts

Foll- Jacobs Thompson Sloane

Int- M Crouch, Knight, Douglas, Atkins

Gee I like that side if we can have everyone up and running. I couldn't find room for CEY, Hendo, Grigg, Lyons or Cheney despite liking elements of all of their games. Should be plenty of competition for spots next year, and our SANFL side becomes a scary prospect for most sides if our injury list isn't too big.

More pacey, skilful and balanced than our 2014 team. Every player is a reliable kick, genuninally excited for next year, we did well in the trade period.

Left a ? on Ottens spot, when fully fit I prefer him to Hartigan but it will come down to who looks the best in pre season. If Francis makes it to pick 9 our key defenders will be mountains in 3 years time.

Our forward line speaks for itself. 50+ goals from walker, betts. 40+ goals from Jenkins and 30+ goals from lynch, Cameron and Menzel is pretty much guaranteed.

Outside of our 22 - there are 5 catagories for our players

Level 1 - Pressuring for selection
- Kelly, Atkins, Cheney, Henderson, CEY

Level 2 - Returning from Injury (may put pressure on for selection late 16)
- Jaensch, Otten, Shaw

Level 3 - Developing players
- Gore, Wigg, O'Brien, McGovern, Ramsey, Dear, Draft pick(s)

Level 4 - Marking time/Trade Bait
- VB, Grigg, Lowden

Level 5 - Why are you still here?
- Mackay, Wright

I'm at work, can somebody PLEASE get an average games played & / average age of our BEST 22 for 2016?

We all know that the best teams have an average games played at around 2200 + with an average age of 26+.

I've got a feeling this team would have around 1500-1700 games experience with an average age of 25, even lower in 2017 with Thompson retiring. So we're still probably looking at 2018 as the PROPER push for a flag, maybe making the numbers for the next couple of years, but this team will do damage.

B - Brown Talia Lever
HB - Laird Hartigan Smith
C - Seed B.Crouch Hampton
HF - Menzel Walker Lynch
F - Betts Jenkins Cameron
R - Jacobs Sloane Douglas
B - Thompson M.Crouch Knight ROB*

Immediate depth: CEY, Cheney, Atkins, Lyons, Grigg, Henderson.

*smokey to be first to reap benefit of no sub rule.

I think the key thing through all of this (reading all the different team set ups), is that we have traded for depth and flexibility.

One of the key strengths of successful teams is being able to move players around easily.
We will have a number of running HB players ... who can rotate.
We will have a number of hard running wingers ...
We will have a potent forward line, with flankers and pockets ...

And the 23-30 players are for the most part very competent players. Grigg, Lyons, CEY, Cheney, Hendo, Otten, Shaw, Gore etc.

That's nuts, 1765 games total.
Still about 2-3 years away from peaking.

Cheers for the stats, so we're looking at 2018 on wards until we play our absolute best football.
This teams still capable of finals, it's going to be a fun few years.

Was gonna try predict the draftees but thought no point really... Reckon we'll get Milera at either 9 or 13 to be honest, would love Francis at 9 more than anything but he won't slip that far. Then whatever pick we don't take Milera with the other will be a key forward/back up ruck type, hopefully that Mckay bloke from Queensland but not fully sure where he's predicted to go by most but dare say he'll be around the mark between 8-15. Then Kelly and O'Brien to get the upgrade then as for rookies I'd like to see one of M.Talia or Hartley land at the club to replace Siggins' spot on the list and role within squad.

Jacobs Smith B Crouch

M Crouch Douglas Atkins Thommo

Close
CEY Lyons Grigg Gore Hendo Cheney

Observations:

Quicker
More skilful, players who can kick!!!!!
More run
More scoring power, what a forward line
Less spuds
Weaker at contested ball
Only Thommo is old

It's amazing that a side losing Danger, on paper anyway looks better.

This doesn't even take into account the potential impact of new draftees

Who's with me?
Potential wise....team wise.

I don't want to get carried away but this could be one of the greatest teams we've ever produced, once they're peaked, if everything comes together.

Very rarely you'll see a forward line like this, where all 6 players are more than capable of turning it on at any given time.

Turn back the clock to 2012 where we'd have Porpz and Petrenko + a resting midfielder sitting in the forward line for the majority of the game.
It's crazy.

Wishful thinking

Kerridge + 28 for T.Menzel
32 for Seedsman
2016 2nd for Hampton + 3rd
3rd, Lyons, Pick 9 for Pick 5
DFA M.Talia

Out: Podsiadly, Martin, Siggins, Reilly, Dangerfield, Wright, Lyons, Kerridge
In: Kelly, Hampton, M.Talia, Seedsman, Gore, Menzel, Pick 5, Pick 9

Brown ~ D.Talia ~ Lever
Laird ~ Hartigan ~ Seedsman
Smith ~ Thompson ~ Douglas
Jacobs ~ B.Crouch ~ Sloane
Lynch ~ Walker ~ Menzel
Betts ~ Jenkins ~ Cameron
M.Crouch ~ Knight ~ Hampton
Henderson

Grigg, Jaensch, Atkins, CEY, VB, Mackay, Otten, Cheney, Shaw, M.Talia, Gore
I stick by this 22

Stuff Danger. He is irreplaceable, but we now have a more balanced team with more depth, which will exclude the spuds and ones that are okay but whom you could never see becoming a premiership player. Every line is looking dangerous, and I no longer read certain names on the team sheet (e.g. Kerridge) and think 'he plays his role but is vanilla'. It's not your top players, it's your bottom players.

Remember, we won a grand final the week after losing Modra.

No, no, not forgotten, just finally replaced. I'm so happy he's not first 22 anymore

Why? Why? Why?

7th in 2014 b&f.
6th in 2015 b&f (on a votes per game basis)

He is in our best 10 when fit based on his form in the 18 months pre knee. Why is he "finally" replaced. It's not like he's been stinking it up for years.

Votes per game:

Douglas, M.Crouch, Hampton, Atkins/CEY/Henderson/Grigg - Jaensch when back from injury

More balanced sides, how much better does our team look without VB, MacKay and Wright?

We've now got more attacking younger players in their place, players that will improve. Losing nothing but experience from VB oh and finger pointing.

Thankfully our club has finally addressed this issue, to me. It was probably our biggest issue.

Carrying players that were not up to AFL standard.

Don't forget VB's patented 'dammit' right hand fist into open left palm.
