McAdam was tracking really well imo. His pre season before that suspension was looking the best I'd seen him. That suspension ****ed him

Was he though? He had 7 touches and 1 goal a very high scoring game in RD 1 of 2023.

And if he is fragile enough where a 3 week stint of being able to train but not play derails a season - then he isnt good enough to make it.

Fact remains when season 2025 starts - he will be 8 weeks away from being 30 with 53 games to his name and 73 goals.

He has kicked 3+ goals 9 times in his career (kicking 4 twice). For someone that talented - he isn't a game winner. His career will go down as a what if.

Bit like the Rankine trade, not unhappy with the trade but did we need to pay that much?
he was contracted. i could ask you the same question about peatling did we really need to part with F2 for an uncontracted. but you all want him so bad so the question is yes. i think the peatling one is more dubious.

I feel like he chased us more than we did him though, Melbourne didn’t really have a fall back position, he was going anyway.
Had we pried him out, sure we should have paid up.

A future 2nd is an absolute steal for Peatling.

From rd 19 of this season through the finals - he was GWS #3 midfielder behind Green/Bedford. He attended more centre bounces than Finn Callaghan, Stephen Coniglio and Josh Kelley.

Just a reminder - here are our 2nd round draft picks from the past 10 years - Edwards, Ryan, Soligo, Cook, Berry, Schoenberg, Worrell, O'Connor, Hamill, Wigg. So far 2 out of the 10 have become first choice best 22 players in Soligo/Worrell.

So we are effectively giving up a future 20% chance of landing a best 22 player for a 24 year old with 45 games experience that forced his way into the midfield of a top 4 team to end 2024.

Maybe Hamish wouldn’t be drafting next year though

Even still. Give me the ready to play Peatling over a chance at a player that wont be able to play a game until 2026 that realistically wont play his best football till 2028/2029.
Yeah more than happy to give up a F2 for Peatling and teams are trying to trade out of next years draft into this one

That's fair, I think we could have paid slightly less for Rankine, but definitely think he is worth it.

I think pick 28 is fair value for ANB.
A late pick back would have meant the Peatling trade would have been done by now.

If it gets done anyway, does it really matter? Same outcome, we just end up waiting a long time on the Peatling trade instead of holding on for a long time with the ANB trade.
Only matters if we go into points deficit on Welsh bid.

For those of you who haven't kept close eyes on Alexander Neal-Bullen while he's been at the Dees:

Was floated for a trade at the end of 2020 and responded by becoming one our hardest workers, becoming an absolute rock in our premiership year.
Never puts his head down, never gives up.
Absolutely clutch in front of goal.
A quintessential "role player" who does the dirty work allowing stars to be stars; see his tagging job on Nick Daicos that led to McRae subbing him off.
The polar opposite of Shane McAdam in dealing with, obtaining, and recovering from injuries.
Articulate, well-spoken, well behaved, a leader who will represent your club in the media with aplomb.

He's a jet. Congrats.
Forgot to mention: elite goal celebration, you'll love it.

Unfortunately there are a few people on here that struggle to find any positive news re the club because of their disdain of the people that work there and there anger at our performances over the past few years. Unable to find any semblance of balance with the argument

There are people that are so desperate for a positive that they only look at one side of the discussion. Getting ANB is good, paying too much either at trade or contract wise is not. Every pick has value, we should only ever pay what we have to pay. You only need to look at the Peatling trade to understand why you don't pat any more than you absolutely have to.

I agree with me here.

Trading pick 28 for ANB is a fair deal. Happy with it.

Can't agree with the bit where you're happy to favour immediate uplift over future value, we're still rebuilding and are way off genuinely contending. Foregoing a potential Soligo for 3 years of ANB is not how you properly rebuild. You wear the down years to load up with talent that will be around when you're contending. We'll almost certainly going to rise up the ladder next year and contend for finals, but ANB won't be around when we're genuinely contending for a premiership. Happy to have him, but not at the price.

We look like needing 5 players at next year's draft and what it looks like we'll be left with is a first and downgraded 3rd. We should have played hardball on ANB and been prepared to walk away. If we'd traded 25 into next year's draft we would have made out like bandits.
