Point is he was a rough edged sausage eating country football player given a chance by us... then a Northern club with more in it cap thru more money at him than we could match. In the end we took the pick they gave us and picked Duncan.
I mention this only in the sense that we all have lost players , and sometimes (perhaps just like Said) a guy you have given an opportunity too.

They have shown the ability to get some squirrelly types tracking square. With the age of Petrie who is 34 in Oct.. Cloke is 30 in March next year..he looks young-ish. It would depend on money/contract/pick/trade etc ... but a fresh start and mature club may get him back on track.

What, travis Cloke? My world and heaven, I hope not.

We have luxury of another year or two of Waite, plus Black/wood starting to break back into the team, and then younger KPPs in Durdin and McKay waiting in the wings. I've loved our strategy lately but that would be absolute stupidity.

Agreed, As supporters we get attached to our players. If you wanted Gaff and he wanted you there would be other ways to get it done, I was just curious to see if that trade could work. I think it does.

Yeah I made that clear in my posts, My proposal was purely hypothetical.

If you assume Roughead wont play footy again, who do the Hawks target as a replacement. I assume they will get some sort of salary cap compensation to cover off Roughys wage so will be a bit of cabbage to play with.

Exposed for pace? Gets pushed off the ball? Are you sure you've seen him play? His only flaw is his footskills and he's shown that he's fixed that for the most part so far in the VFL.

Not really a clean out, I think we will try and do what the cats did last year. Go after Prestia, Hurley, Patton, Omeara and see which ones we can get.

I expect Vickery to leave and that will get us back into the second round, we might not have a first rounder as i'm pretty confident Prestia will be a tiger.

Saying that, we have 20 players out of contract, 10 - 11 will go I reckon.

Just on that first line.. obviously we do not know the machinations of the clubs.. but what Geelong did was in the works for a long time..and once they decide to go a certain way they paid up and paid fast. So from that pov... id expect Rich to do an internal prognosis on what they need. If its mid , then lets say Prestia is your main target..

How much will you give for him to make it happen? First attract him with the right contract then get the GC to do the trade. Is Prestia worth 800? Is he worth an R1 and an R2? Probably not but that how you make it happen.
