Pretty good period. Bhill and McCarthy will fit in nicely
Hamling and Kersten are fringe players in their old sides and have previously been overlooked at times. Lets not get too excited to finally getting some KPPs in but they are worth the risk! WA talents, plus good friends. However they're no Bonafide A graders.
Trading future second round pick again was important for us to get another pick inside top40.

Overall B+

You mirror my thoughts and grade

The fact that we didn't compromise our draft position was a massive bonus

"Hey Ross, how do you think we fared this trade period?"

Didn't Hamling keep Kennedy, Cameron and Frankln to something like a sum total of 2 goals during their finals campaign? Less fringe and more key I think.
But before round 16 he wasn't near there 22.

Not saying he isn't promising, but you don't get an A grader for 400k from another club. I am hoping he will be a solid defender for us for 5+ years.

When given the opportunity he took it to the best key position players in the game consistently through an entire finals campaign which was an A grade performance. That's a form line that indicates to me that he was in the upper end of their best 22. Great recruiting as I see it. We've stolen a budding A grader for $400k just as he has come of age, when things clicked and when he has realised his potential. His performance in the finals campaign are not the deeds of a fringe player that we've picked up - that was the comment I was responding to. I have high expectations for Joel cos he met them in a grand final.

Hamling no pressure , b grader with the potential to be A with freo.

Exactly this. I had my doubts about Hamling prior to finals but if you can deliver under finals intensity then you are obviously capable at being an 'A' grade KPD. The fact he wasn't b22 before round 16 only means we didn't have to pay through the nose for him. Win for us.

Get with the times Meima . Suban is yesterdays news . We have a playpen full of new toys to decide whether to keep or throw out.
I would like to keep grey and deluca based on their improvement in 2016. What your thought? Deserve another season to prove themselves could be freo version of allir allir.

Deluca yes, for me Grey no.

My rookie list would be solely comprised of young developing ruckmen. I wouldn't even bring them over from the SANFL or VFL ifthat is where we found them, I'd just stash them hoping one of them actually demonstrated something in a year or two (then I'd relocate em).

I hate to think of anyone getting the sack and especially when its so public but I think they will be moved on. Grey is a Suban type with disposal problems and Deluca is well covered by what we have on the list. Time for some new pieces for the leggo.

It seems Suban's retention is the last page on our miscalculation of where the list was at.
Barlow's predicament is unfortunate and instructive,and I hope he's given a reprieve.
But we are entering a period where retention requires better performance.
The list has been improved and the bar has been raised.
May not be the best time for Brady and Josh to fall off the end of the list.

And if you flick back a page you'll see Danyle Pearce's 2 year contract extension.
Regardless of what one thinks of his merits, he is 31 years old next year and given the manner in which Ballaz and Barlow are being made to work hard for their requests, in hindsight, I think they would have acted differently and only done at most the one year and maybe thought hard about that even.

Danyle certainly has limitations but still offers something as depth;Suban much less so IMHO.
His contract status compared to Barlow's situation completely bamboozles me.
Thankfully the age of the mystery is nearing its end.
