Possibly. I have no idea whether or not he's had a full pre-season. Maybe he needs a rund. I really haven't been following their injury situation, particularly since the 2017 season finished.
Fyfe did play the Irish Season, so his fitness is fine .....may have withdrawn him from this game solely to "management" given he did play that series ??

No idea.. and ultimately I really don't care what the other clubs are doing. They will each approach the AFLX with their own agendas. All I really care about is what Adelaide are doing.

Fortunately, Adelaide seem to be taking the same attitude as me. Ignoring AFLX, treating it as a bad joke, and hoping that it will just go away. To this end, they've named the weakest possible team, with the bottom 18 (available) players on our lists. This is exactly what I hoped (and expected) they would do.

The only exception appears to be the large group of fringe defenders, which is not entirely surprising. We have 1 (possibly 2) positions up for grabs, and a genuine contest between multiple players for the position(s). Keath, Doedee, Cheney and Otten all have valid reasons which could justify their selection... but who will win the prize? I think the coaches/selectors haven't made up their minds, and are determined to take every possible opportunity to assess their options before the H&A season begins.

Adelaide have only named 3 players with 50+ AFL games - Otten, Cheney & Hampton. None of them are currently in our best 22, and none are contracted for 2019. It's highly likely that at least 2 of the 3 will be gone at the end of the year, and the smart money is on all 3 being given their marching orders. AFLX is their first (and possibly last) opportunity to show why they should not be delisted at the end of the year.

The squad named yesterday is good news for some, and bad news for others, because it reveals at least part of the pecking order for where these players currently stand. Milera & Poholke weren't named in the squad, meaning that they're now in the upper tier. Hampton, on the other hand, should be very concerned with his current standing. Gallucci has now fallen behind Poholke, despite having debuted ahead of him last year - but playing AFLX is not a bad thing for a 2nd year player, so I really wouldn't read too much into him being named in the bottom tier grouping.

Whilst this is possible, its not definte. He may have been named because he missed some footy last year.

Maybe some of that is right,
But there is a good reason Gallucci has been named. due to him missing a large of Games at the end of Last year. they want to get some game time into him.
As for Gallucci being overtaken by Pohokle. read some of the training reports or get down and watch them, because the one thing you are missing is they are currently training in different groups. Gallucci is spending 80% in the Forward group, Pohokle is spending 90% in the Midfield group, and at this time is coverage for Greenwood.
Pohokle not been named along with Gibson highlights that Greenwood may not be the first pick for round 1.
Also from the Forward group, the only players pushing for CC role are all named. And all the Players pushing for that incept role have been named.

Didn't hear the Don saying the selection process for the AFLX had anything to do with the "rankings" of the player from the bottom up there, the opposite actually...

You actually pay any attention at all to propaganda like this?

Be interesting if there is SANFL advantage with Crows and Port Players over the last touch-free kick rule. And how quick the umpires allow this to go. if they let it happen quickly it could be a big advantage. And create a few Goals.

Somehow I take what the Don has to say just a tad more seriously than any of your fertile assumptions...
Really? I regard him as both a master of propaganda, and a master of speaking while saying nothing. He can talk for 30 minutes, and while still providing zero information content. It's a truly remarkable talent. He tells you what he wants you to know, and what he wants you to think, which often has very little (if any) actual basis in reality. There's nothing wrong with that - it's entirely consistent with the Crows' secretive ways. Just don't take anything he says to heart.

If you want to know what Pyke really thinks, ignore everything he says in public and just watch what's happening on the field. With Pyke, actions speak louder than words.

So you are 100% certain Pyke gives nothing away, while simultaneously being 100% certain that your interpretation of his decisions is the correct one.
I judge him by his actions, not his words.

His actions, in this case, involve naming an AFLX squad which is clearly the weakest one he could possibly assemble. If he's saying that Adelaide isn't treating AFLX like a joke, while naming the team he has, then he's lying through his teeth.

** I applaud him for treating AFLX as a joke, because that's exactly what it is.

Why does not playing our best AFL players equate to playing a poor AFLX team?

I have the strongest suspicion that the best AFLX teams would NOT equate to the best AFL teams.

I still don't think we're in it to win it first and foremost, its purpose is firstly for a strategy of getting players into form, having a look at some youngsters and future leaders.

In something new, youthful creativity counts for something.

I'm reluctant to predict how we'll go with so little to go on, but there are still some things to like about our squad.

Greenwood may not be fit for round 1

Would be great if Hokey Poholke gets a debut

I have two cares about X

1. When is it finished
2. Did we get any injuries
The AFL is trying to develop AFLW ......what better way to develop it than to startup a new competition in opposition ....and reduce the media noise of AFLW by promoting heavily AFLX

Good one AFL  .......geesus a marketing newbie can see what the impact will be on AFLW crowds

AFL House have a very short atte....what was I saying?

AFLX is actually a brilliant scheme to bring interest back to the traditional NAB Cup format. Three rounds of normal football plus a final. After the X junk for a season or two we'll all be saying How great's this? when they go back to the old formula.

AFLX is a Poochie equivalent

Because most sports around the world are played on rectangular pitches ......AFLX is designed as a game that is transportable to anywhere in the world, with much reduced player lists & staffing (costs) ......nothing to do with game development in Australia
