Would Michael Talia be worth a free hit if Lever left?

Out of interest which set of brothers do we think have the highest chance of playing together in 2018? (FYI, i pulled this list off a 2016 article so forgive me if there are any player movements/retirements/delistings I wasn't aware off)

  • Brendon Ah Chee (Port Adelaide) and Callum Ah Chee (Gold Coast)
  • Mitchell Brown (West Coast) and Nathan Brown (Collingwood)
  • Cameron Delaney (Geelong) and Luke Delaney (St Kilda)
  • Jack Frost (Collingwood) and Sam Frost (Melbourne)
  • Cameron Hewett (Port Adelaide) and George Hewett (Sydney Swans)
  • Nathan Jones (Melbourne) and Zak Jones (Sydney Swans)
  • Jake Kolodjashnij (Geelong) and Kade Kolodjashnij (Gold Coast)
  • Ed Langdon (Fremantle) and Tom Langdon (Collingwood)
  • Harry Marsh (Sydney Swans) and Jonathon Marsh (Collingwood)
  • Jeremy McGovern (West Coast) and Mitch McGovern (Adelaide)
  • Ben McKay (North Melbourne) and Harry Mckay (Carlton)
  • Daniel Menzel (Geelong) and Troy Menzel (Adelaide)
  • Brodie Murdoch (St Kilda) and Jordan Murdoch (Geelong)
  • Ben Reid (Collingwood) and Sam Reid (Sydney Swans)
  • Andrew Swallow (North Melbourne) and David Swallow (Gold Coast)
  • Daniel Talia (Adelaide) and Michael Talia (Sydney Swans)
  • Corey Wagner (North Melbourne) and Josh Wagner (Melbourne)
  • Jimmy Webster (St Kilda) and Zac Webster (Hawthorn)
  • Lachie Weller (Fremantle) and Maverick Weller (St Kilda)
So nobody took the piss and said Crouch Brothers

Michael Talia is garbage

Not sure if he is garbage. Would be a speculative trade that would cost nothing and would be an AFL experienced big body to come into the squad in the even that Lever left. Not sure we would bother with someone who has a history of drug use though. Just mentioned him because of the post discussing brothers playing together. He is not on my wish list.

He is a terrible defender. Wouldn't get a game ahead of Otten, Hartigan, Keath, Cheney, Doedee, Kelly, and of course Talia. Utterly worthless addition to the squad, no better than a draftee but with no scope for development

Not much black bolded stuff there for Rockliff..

Sidebottom >>>>>>Rockliff....... a way more rounded game.

My god, ridiculous. Rockliff >>>>>>>>>>> Sidebottom.

Again, comparing players by stats is flawed and should not be done. The thing that stands out to me is the ratio of Sidebottoms contested to uncontested possessions is 1:2.4. Says everything that I think about Sidebottom right there. He is a good outside mid and very average at contested football and inside work.

Thought he was alright at the bulldogs as a 22 year old. Havent seen him since.

Some serious straw-clutching here. Sidebottom being more outside than Rockliff certainly doesn't make him dramatically inferior. In fact, a good outside mid is generally harder to find than a good inside one.

If he was a seriously good outside mid then you may have a point. But he is just a good outside mid and hardly a super player that everyone has coveted. Even now he is not as good an outside mid as Wells who is on his last legs. He is not as good as Pendlebury, Treloar or Adams as a contested/inside mid. I am not surprised that his name is being mentioned by Collingwood fans themselves because they have spent all their TPP in certain areas and left others bare. If not for the age factor, Sidebottom would clearly be the man that they would be better off not having and having a key position player instead. Sidebottom is a great age now which does make him valuable, but personally I think he is a luxury player to have considering his value is really only outside and you should be spending the bulk of your money on your inside contested mids and your key position players.

Rockcliff is just below what I would consider truly elite with very few players that are above him. This year he has been down on his usual output, maybe due to injury or due to not being played in his usual midfield role as much. But over the journey, he has been in that conversation of elite mids. Sidebottom isnt even in the elite conversation. He is a good player and I havent argued otherwise. But if you are trading in and paying a big salary to Rockliff, Gibbs or Sidebottom then he is not even close to the first two.

But that is his role....

Yes, he's not a good outside mid, he's an elite one. He is a winger that runs, and runs and runs and does not stop. Has elite disposal on either side of his body, makes good decisions, loves the big stage and gets on the end of the team's ball movement to kick goals every now and then.

You complain about Collingwood trading in mids to push Sidebottom out. You're right to an extent... They traded these mids in so that Sidebottom didn't have to do the contested stuff. Instead he can the game he is best suited to on the outside and really hurting teams.

No one will believe me in here but Rockliff = Sloane

Identical type of players in every way and just as good as one another. The difference is one has played in a winning side and the other has played for a bottom 8 side for most of his career.

If you bring Rockliff into our mid he is equal 2nd best mid along with Sloane.

And yes I am claiming M Crouch is better than Sloane. Sloane has been exposed this year by not being able to break a tag and get himself involved in other ways. He needs to do more. This is not saying he is crap just he's been taken down a rung and until he can shake a tag will remain there.

Yes, but they have left themselves short. What is the point of spending all your TPP on Wells and Sidebottom when your defence and attack are weak. I wont go into an argument over Sidebottom being elite - everyone seems to have a different definition of this. But Sidebottom is a luxury. He does not change games on his own like Wells can. He can win his own ball and he has great execution and above average decision making. A very good player to have, but not if its at the expense of more important positions on the ground.

otten is a much better player than M Talia

massive no from me

Rumour ---- not fact

As heard:
Pending on what happens with Buckley there is strong interest on one of our star forwards & one of our coaches but if Collingwood don't overhaul the coaching bench we are likely to retain the forward
whispers we will be after a top contracted midfielder & talks of trade have been happening for 2 months
i believe there is bigger issues in the background with collingwood and fremantle than what has been reported (some serious games played)

I have been told to keep an eye on what happens to Buckley, last time i was told this eade was gone soon after as well as the top management overhaul
