In 2015 saints finished 15th
In 2016 saints finished 9th
In 2017 saints finish ??

It's a massive achievement by Richo to make a team that could possibly finish top 8 within 4 seasons.

Demons have been rebuilding since 07 or 08. Haven't made a final in nearly a decade.

Before demon fans go when was the last time time we won a flag or how many flags we won.

I guess if you compare your teams record to the worst team over the last 10 years it will look good

So St. Kilda's average ladder position under Richardson is 14th. Sounds about right.

In 2017 saints finish ?? 6th and lose to Freo in an Elimination Final.

After reading the uodates in these threads, two things.

1. The competition between the Demons and Saints surprises me, but maybe it's a Melbourne thing I'm missing. To make teams on the up should be targetting the teams at the top to improve their position.
2. Port supporters have real belief, as always. I have a long standing dislike of their club, but respect any supporters backing their team next year, so
Kudos

So we should, plenty of talent has been missing .. our team has been smashed with injuries since 2014. A fit squad and we can leave a mark.. crows certainly did. Barely 1 injury in 2 years and look how they went. Ironically a few injuries at the end of 2016 killed them

Who are all these guns you have been missing? Serious question as I don't watch many of your games.

Sydney
GWS
Geelong
West Coast
Port Adelaide
Fremantle
Footscray
Gold Coast

St Kilda
Melbourne
Collingwood
Hawthorn
Adelaide
Richmond
Carlton
Essendon
Brisbane
North Melbourne

But I have NFI

no shit...

crows will finish higher than gold coast and freo

It's hard to see Gold Coast getting into the 8. But Freo is a wild card. Fyfe is possibly the best player in the comp. Sandilands when fit is the best ruckman. They've brought in Brad Hill, who has won 3 premierships and is still only 23. Harley Bennell is a potential superstar. They'll miss Pavlich, Mayne and Barlow but if the aforementioned players can stay on the park Freo could finish top 6.

I went through the fixture and did a 'Win - 50/50 - Loss' breakdown. The 50/50 games I just then split into wins or losses.

- Came out with a few placements I'm not quite sure on. Adelaide above GWS probably being the standout.
- I had the Saints penciled in the 8 mentally, but they actually have quite a tough draw.
- With the top 6 teams it's not that I don't think they will loss any games, more that you could make a case for their tough games being too close to call. So I called them 50/50. Conversely with the bottom teams, it's not that I don't think they won't win, just that their winnable games will be close)
- I didn't try to sneak Freo into the 8 it just happened. I'll list Freo's game below so you can call me out on my bias :)

(Wins - 50/50 - Losses)

Swans (14 - 8 - 0)
Dogs (14 - 8 - 0)
Adelaide (14 - 8 - 0)
GWS (13 - 9 - 0)

Cats (12 - 10 - 0)
Hawks (11 - 10 - 1)
Eagles (9 - 10 - 3)

Melbourne (7 - 7 - 8)
Saints (6 - 7 - 9)

Essendon (3 - 6 - 13)

North (0 - 10 - 12)
Suns (0 - 8 - 14)

The players are going to be equipped with lightsabers... :)

Im suprised the Port marketing department hasn't done a "which Star Wars character is your favourite player" article like they did with Pokemon.

How do you see the Dees game as a lock for a win but Port and Richmond are 50/50s? You expect us to be worse next year than we were this year?

That's a fair point...... it's nightshift and I'm trying to pass the time.

I will move that game into the 50/50 category.

It won't effect the positioning on the ladder but I accept your point.

Comprehension fail.

The rebuild under Paul Roos was total. The fact that it was about the third since 2007 is irrelevant.

Post the 2013 season Roos took over statistically the 5th worst VFL/AFL team in history. Clearly (and I mean clearly) previous rebuilding efforts failed miserably.

From the time Roos took over, you know a 2 win/54% team, there have been 33 list changes. Eleven of the 44 players from the senior list in 2013 remain.

Roos' rebuild has been as good or superior (my opinion) than Richardson's. 2 wins/54%, 7 wins, 10 wins/97%. We will play finals in 2017.

The only decent senior players Roos inherited was Nathan Jones and Frawley. Richardson inherited Riewoldt, Hayes, Montagna, Fisher, Dempster, Gilbert and I suspect Schneider and a couple of others. The ability to drive culture was within the organisation. Not only didn't Roos inherit a talented core senior group, the list was bereft of leadership/culture. All it had was players like Dunn, Garland, Grimes, etc. who were mentally charred.

Analysed every game for the year and this is the ladder Ive come up with:

Adelaide
GWS
Sydney
Bulldogs
Geelong
St Kilda
Melbourne
Fremantle
--------------------------------
Essendon
Hawthorn
Gold Coast
Collingwood
West Coast
Richmond
Port
North
Carlton
Brisbane

Adelaide play a lot of winnable away games so I see them finishing top but Sydney and GWS will play in the GF IMO.

Hawks, WC and North all to drop out of the eight. Hard to split St Kilda, Freo, Dees and Essendon for who makes the top 8.

For transparency this is how I assess our games you can let me know if you think Im biased:

Home Games:

Carlton (win), Fremantle (win), Hawthorn (win), North Melbourne (win), Gold Coast (win), Collingwood (win), Sydney (lose), Adelaide (lose), Port Adelaide (win), StKilda (win), Brisbane (win)

Total Home 9 wins 2 losses

Away Games:

StKilda (lose), Geelong (lose) Richmond (win), Essendon @ Etihad (lose), Adelaide (lose), Western Bulldogs (lose), WCE (lose), Carlton (win), North Melbourne (win), Greater Western Sydney (lose), Collingwood (win)

Total Away: 4 wins 7 losses

Grand total: 13 wins 9 loses

Yes I agree with you. You guys did a great job specially with the trading and drafting. I think 2013 wasn't a great draft. I mean we missed out on Bont for Billings. You guys could have got Patrick Cripps instead of Salem at 9. End of the day what matters is who wins the flag. Let's just hope we don't end up like Richmond

If port finish in 15th, I will happily be ur slave for the rest of my days...

But it's not gonna happen!

Probably. But I do like GC's list somewhat. And assuming they get their shit together (a baseless assumption) I think they could make the 8 this year.

Freo pretty self explanatory i think

I can't see us making the 8 this year, even though I think we'll have our sh*t together.
I don't know if my crystal ball is better than anyone else's but this is how I'll guess they finish

72 Western Bulldogs
68 GWS
64 Adelaide
60 Sydney
56 Melbourne
52 Freo

44 Port Adelaide
40 Essendon
40 Geelong
40 Gold Coast
32 St. Kilda
24 North Melbourne
24 Richmond
20 Brisbane
12 Carlton
