I'm not sure why Spurr seems to be an automatic selection in most sides. I don't mind him and he's been a solid player. But do people realise he is 6 months older than Barlow? Some people seem resigned to shipping Barlow to Peel or another club, due to age and a stacked midfield. Why does this not apply to Spurr? He's older and we have a lot of options down back with the talls/interceptors and young distributors like Weller, Crozier and Tucker. Not to mention Sutcliffe/Sheridan, though maybe their ship has sailed as defenders.

I think Spurr may get the first crack at the small defender position early in the season but providing selection gets judged on form he won't see the year out in the first 22.
