This is a Carlton under Bolton list change. After next year we will have turned over half our list.

I hope after all is said and done Ross proves all the doubters wrong, that he can rebuild a list. I said it earlier this year, we are about to see the making of Ross and Nat as coach and captain of the first premiership for Freo.

1. Fyfe to be captain. That' s pretty difficult when it's almost certain he will be playing at Carlton in season 2018. Evidently Fremantle are resigned to this and will be looking at Carlton's list over the course of season 2017. They are after a deal like the Eagles scored for Judd.

2. Ross to coach a premiership, at Fremantle. Past history is the best indicator of future behavior...
Almost certain?! I'd fleece you for everything you own in a bet if I didn't doubt you had the integrity of a jellyfish

There is at least two things wrong with this statement...
Ah cr*p, the idiots from the News Corp comments section have finally found BigFooty. Can we use a shiny object to lure you over to Dockerland instead?

Can the mods delete these posts so we can get back on topic please?

Piss off

Done deal. Fremantle are acutely aware he wants out. Weitering and Cripps have been thrown up but that's pretty much the only two on the Blues list off-hands.

This is what most Hawthorn fans are like in real life.
Arrogant tossers who know very little about football, but think they are better than everyone else because some time in the last few decades, they discovered football or hopped off another VFL team to pretend they have always supported Hawthorn.
Weirdly, I have read far more intelligent posts from Hawthorn fans on this site than heard anything remotely intelligent coming from an actual Hawthorn supporter. This site proves there are intelligent Hawthorn supporters, but unfortunately most of them are like OnceKicked50, a complete waste of oxygen.

I think the most interesting part will be our backline talls. How do he start or progress through the season?

Have A.Pearce/Collins/hamling vs Johnson/Dawson/Ibbotson combo. Future vs experience. Do we play them on form or the youngsters to get games into them from the start of season? Or a combination with perhaps only Johnson as "general".

Crozier and Spurr as smalls probably.

Forward line and midfield can be sorted by form only.

2 of Walters/Yarran/Ballantyne
3 of McCarthy/Taberner/Kersten/Apeness (Clarke in the mix as well unless Apeness shoulders 2nd ruck duties)

Sandi
Fyfe/Mundy/Neale
Hill/Hill/Bennell/Blakely/Weller

Fyfe, Bennell perhaps Weller to rotate forward and S.Hill and Mundy through HBF.

Langdon/Sheridan/Sutcliffe/D.Pearce/Drafties/Suban/others fighting for 3 bench spots.

Until we win a premiership we will always be trolled I'm afraid. They are just going to keep coming no point getting pissed off. Just take it on the chin. The hawthorn football club are unsettled at the moment. Didn't make the grand final in 2016 and lost the respect of the playing group getting rid of Mitchell and Lewis. They are on the downer. We can only get better :)

Love the back line now - Some first choice players will be locked in back line only - Hamling, Spurr, ibbotson,
Some can switch to other positions if need be - Johnson, Crozier, A Pearce, Weller, Mundy, Sheridan
And some provide excellent depth - Collins, Dawson.
What was an issue last year has the potential to become a strength

This team hasn't even got the hill brothers in it yet. My god.

Hill brothers jump on either wing. We really have an exciting team for next year if a few things go right.

It's part of the reason I have gone a more balanced 22 instead of complete rebuild. Get the youngsters like tucker to push past Spurr, Crozier past Ibbotson, Hamling past Dawson etc. I'm sure it will happen at some point, but I would rather it not be given. By delisting blokes like Barlow, DeBoer, Clancee, Silvagni, Mzungu etc the rebuild will happen naturally.

Spurr Dawson Johnson
Weller A.Pearce Ibbotson

B.Hill Fyfe S.Hill

Walters McCarthy Ballatyne
Yarran Apeness Kersten

Sandilands Neale Bennel

Mundy D.Pearce Blakely Langdon

Depth:

KPD: Hamling (will get plenty of games when Johnson inevitably gets injured, or Dawson drops off form or gets suspended), Collins

Ruck: Clarke (can back up for Apeness aswell incase he doesn't improve as much as we hope or gets injured), Griffen

KPF: Taberner (pretty sweet knowing he went from being number 2 after an old Pavlich to a number 4 being behind 3
blokes under 25!)

Medium: Crozier, Tucker, Sherdian, Balic (expect these four to get plenty of games)

Totally understand your support of Dawson who has done a fantastic job on many a gorilla forward.

However, I don't see us searching out and then giving a three year contract to Hamlin to play him only when we get injuries. Form will play a part as it always does but Hamlin has been brought over to play best 22 and you have to admit that Pearce and Hamlin sound like a dynamic pairing with Collins as the backup on occasions.

Appreciate all that Dawson has done but we all know he is the injury only backup next year and probably wouldn't have been going around if he did not have a contract.

It is no big prediction to assume Dawson and Johnson will be gone at the end of next year so we could still be looking for another key defender in this draft.

Pretty sure Hamling didn't leave a premiership team to come in behind Dawson. If we play Dawson over Hamling then RTB is trolling us.

This is a very simplistic way of looking at it. Dawson has been a very important piece of our team for a long time. Johnson is highly unlikely to play half the games this year and even more unlikely to play on next year. Dawson is also 30.

The Bulldogs have Wood, Morris, Adams, Roberts and then even possibly Roughead when he plays down back.

Remember he only played for the Bulldogs last season because of massive injury problems down back. Despite possibly not being best 22 at the dockers he would still play far more games here then at the Bulldogs.

I can fully understand most people having the view you do. But I can understand it while also disagreeing. We have made the list changes to make the rebuild happen naturally now by delisting all of our depth. I think we play our best 22 next season and let the youngsters force there way in.

Dawson has proved a lot more then hamling. Dawson has been best 22 in 3 Grandfinals. Despite being a premiership player Hamling was not best 22 in a underdog premier side.

Hamling performance in his one grand final to Dawson's 3. Hamling does a great job on buddy and how did Dawson go loosing all 3 grand finals ? He must of leaked a few goals

Uh oh the Dawson debate is starting up again. Dawson was pretty terrible in our '13 grand final. Hamling was close to BOG in this year's grand final. One is 23yo, the other is 30.

Our last good football was early 2015 when we won 10 games in a row, not playing Dawson and relying on McPharlin, Johnson and Ibbo to do the job down back. It wasn't Bulldogs like rebound football but our rebounding was so much better than this year and our scoring was also good. Johnson gets injured, and we throw in Dawson and play the lock down in D50 hoping to just get over the line in a low scoring game and it was awful to watch and in the end we had no momentum going into finals.

Dawson is a good negator but we may as well have kept Barlow as well if we are going back to that slow down the game strategy.

Sorry, does Lyon's goes out and player the old guys and win now or does he bring a few younger guys and have a better chance of winning later?

The cue obviously went in to the rack in 2016, with the various mid season surgeries allowing a full instead of interrupted upcoming preseason. He'll be playing to win in 2017 and beyond.

Our best team in 2017 will have a lot of the youth in it. The list has been pruned hard and the youth had their opportunities to show their mettle this year.

Buddy's ankle was rooted during the grand final. He was good against Kennedy. So was Dawson this year. Cameron has been hot and cold against everyone this year.

Hamlings finals series is massively overrated because he was supposed to be a MASSIVE weakness given the injuries to players ahead of him, and he ended up playing well. His rebounding while better then Dawsons is nothing special either.

Edit: Just thought I would make it clear that I'm just as happy as everyone else at signing him. He's a talented young KPD who will be very important in the future with two 30+ year olds ahead of him.

I wasn't a fan of grabbing Hamling pre finals because his rebounding wasn't much better than Dawson's but I completely changed my mind watching him in the finals. You can make all the excuses in the world why he did so well week after week on the opposition's best forwards in the finals but the reality is, he played out of his skin. He can play tall or small due to his speed and he's only 23 so we should expect plenty of upside still. Playing him in WAFL would do nothing but interrupt his development curve now.

Meanwhile I'd be very surprised if Dawson isn't delisted next year if he doesn't retire gracefully. If he was out-of-contract this year and not Silvagni, then I'd expect Alex to still be with us and not Zac. Playing him in our team at the expense of a youngster getting experience would be minimal short term gain for long term pain. Just like the many we delisted this year, all great role-players but we need to move forward.

First of all, saying he "played out of his skin" is kind of what I'm also getting at. He had a great patch of form which he hadn't shown when he got delisted by Geelong and by not being best 22 at the Bulldogs for two seasons when they were struggling for a gorilla defender. I think he's going to end up being a very handy player, but I feel Dawson is seriously underrated.

The facct that you said if contacts were reversed that silvagni would have been delisted over Dawson proves my point. Dawson is a far better defender then Silvagni.
