Yes it is, though we did recruit Michael Still (with some fanfare) a couple of years back to occupy such a position! I'm not sure if he's sticking with us, it hasn't worked out well so far!

It will be good to see young(ish) Starcevich playing with us, let's hope he's a late developer!

Not sure about a late developer but it seems he's had a late growth spurt, his Claremont bio lists him as 198cm and I'm pretty sure he was only 193-4cm when we had the option to F/S him.

I reckon we have a few that aren't ready for VFL. I wish we had access to a seconds for the VFL team. Or as a minimum an ammos affiliation for those not ready. Stagger development appropriately. I reckon the premature jump can kill the prospects of some talents. Think of the time Stynes spent at Prahan, or Macaffer in the Willy ressies as examples of the benefits of having a ressies comp. I'm not sure the direct VFL exposure is always the best development path for all players.
Who do you think isn't ready for VFL? Assuming the rookies in McCarthy, Mackie and Lynch?

This suggests that Jackson Starcevich, the son of our 1990 premiership hero (Craig Starcevich) will be playing for the VFL team next year. He's currently starring for Nightcliff in the NTFL:-

“In Melbourne, I started doing some more intense training trying to get prepared for the VFL season next year,” he told the NT News.

“That’s helping a lot up here. It’s been really good to get some consistency, because I haven’t had that for a long time. I’ve been training with Collingwood’s VFL side and that’s really helping the strength and conditioning side of it, and it prepared me a lot more for the heat up here.

“I trained with them all last year while playing for Shepparton and next year I’m signing on to their senior list.

“I’ve got a really good mentor down there in (head coach) Jared Rivers.”

That be a Interesting get after we got both McLarty and McCarthy.

Guess also Means we not Retaining Still or Close

McCarthy and Lynch are the ones that jump out at me. But also players as they struggle for form. I think it's bad for the VFL team playing unbalanced line ups trying to fit everyone in.

The problem is the VFL 2s are a joke now anyway and there is no way an affiliation with a local club would work. Especially in the Ammos they aren't going to let pro footballers run around there

Seriously doubt we'll have 45 players available most weeks and I doubt it'll ever get as bad as the period where we were playing Wood, McNamara, Witts, Keeffe, Gault, and Ceglar in the F50 changing ruck.

What about McLarty?

Hmmm. I see what you're saying, but the VFL dev league is local footy standard. Barely above TAC, if that. It's not somewhere I'd be inclined to have kids developing if we want to get them up to AFL standard.

I'd be surprised if Still wanted to hang around any longer. Only guessing, of course, but I wouldn't blame him for trying his luck elsewhere.

Shame he missed most of 2016 season with injury but he'll be 26 before the start of next season so may well decide his AFL dream is gone and start chasing a larger pay day in 2017.

Well he missed just about the Whole Season with Injury

Yes, and as jackcass suggested (and I was thinking) he probably saw coming to Collingwood (VFL) as his last crack at getting back on an AFL list, but after two years there he probably would realise it's not likely to happen. Again, just guessing, of course. I don't know whether Ash Close still works for the club, if he does he may well stay on the VFL list, but unless we get a fair few (AFL) injuries(!) he most likely wouldn't get a lot of games.

Timmy from Thomastown after hearing about another Starcevich at the Pies.

You are better off playing div one seniors in the EFL, NFL or EDFL over playing development league

But I agree they should all be in 1 of those Sides and not Spread everywhere around the Amateur Leagues
