some poor decision making and lazy kicking costing us this qtr. gave petty a rap and then he turns it over twice with risky kicks through the guts, typical.

These commentators are excellent. They know everything about everyone, even things like Dion Johnstone being drafted as a forward then being moved to defence.

I like Petty and Baker. Dom has used it well, even off the right a couple of times. I really don't think Weideman is going to make it.
yeah they're better than most AFL commentators. to be fair to weid the pies are throwing plenty of guys back so its not easy for forwards but he definitely needs to be stronger overhead.

Seems like a lot of our listed boys had a good game?

Balic, Bugg put pressure on types like Hannan to keep performing, Tyson (and Stretch before being an emergency) putting pressure on mids.

I only caught the second half, but I thought Weid had a really good last qrt, likewise Balic, and MY boy Oskar is going to be a player. That was the first I've seen of Petty ... J.Smith better take his opportunity on Monday, because Petty doesn't look far off it. Really good size, reads it very well, and seems a good user.

one thing I noticed today is Hunts inability to stick tackles or fend offs. looks like he doesn't have much strength through that shoulder at all. Weid took a couple of strong marks once the pies rolled the dice in the last qtr and stopped flooding our forward half. Balic drifted in and out at times but was good and Petty looked strong underneath the ball but maybe needs to work on his disposal at times. Keilty good also. Dom and JKH were good, both got plenty of it and drove us fwd all day. Baker got better as the game wore on and he's got a bit of x factor about him that kid.

Dogs won 2017 VFL flag, Richmond were in the VFL granny last year, pretty sure Box Hill were always up there during the Hawks flag years... lid is still on but having a good VFL team is important.

How did the game look on tv coz it looked pretty terrible from what I saw at the ground. Had trouble picking out players without having a Record. Thought JKH look he played okay, Weid took a couple of solid marks (nearly killed a Pies defender in the last quarter). Frost looked okay up forward. But lots of turnovers and missed opportunities.

Tough on a bloke named in the bests!

He got better after I wrote that.

Just think he's not athletic and these days you have to have a few tricks to make it as an elite key forward.

His best hope is as a role player in the forward line and a second ruck.

Seems an old-fashioned lead at the ball carrier, crash the pack, take the ball at its highest point marking forward. Looked to have reasonable mitts and a decent set shot technique. Doesn't move well but moves well enough, I think. Will "make it" (or be given enough chances to constitute a career) somewhere, but he'll go through footy life being a guy who isn't Charlie Curnow. Might be somewhere else though because he's going to find it hard to make a living playing third fiddle to Hogan and TMac.

No way Weid should be in the bests. Had a decent last qtr and tried hard but there were lots of players ahead of him I thought.

Seems to me like he does really well when the sting has gone out of the game.
From what I watched it was a tough and scrappy game for the first 3 quarters, Casey simply bombing long, Weidemann flying in a pack of 6 usually. The 'eye-lowering' quotient in the VFL - even when it's senior Demon players involved - means any forward takes part in a raffle. In other words, it don't work. If it don't work, fix it, most successful sides do. If I was a tall forward I would have hated being on the end of repeated long bomb run entries...Mind you, in the second quarter he was in front of a pack and dropped what a gun would have marked twice.

Sorry for the intrusion... Any chance Bugg is likely to get a game anytime soon? Was Tim smith held as Emergency for yesterday? Much chance to get back in?

TIA

yeah i think Bugg is a chance to get a game soon. usually performs each week in the vfl and he can play different roles. maybe needs Hannan or Spargo to get dropped first. I think maybe Weideman is preferred over T.Smith but there's not much between them really. the coach said Smith got dropped on form and he wasn't named as an emergency but he did get a couple of heavy knocks last week and didn't play vfl on the weekend so i'm unsure where he sits at the moment.

After getting killed for pace by Collingwood, and just generally having our midfield shown up the last 2 weeks, maybe we see Baker come in for a debut. Anyone seen much of his VFL games, I know he is meant to take the game on a lot but does he do good things with it when he gets the footy?
